Chapter 431 No Need to Be Merciful
Reese couldn't help but lean back, looking completely at ease. "Alright, then I want to hear how you plan to solve this."
"Let's forget about the past. On behalf of everyone in the Hawthorne family, I apologize to you," Nathaniel said.
"And then?" She couldn't believe that Nathaniel would let it go so easily.
"Then I hope you can return the project to Alexander," Nathaniel said.
Reese laughed mockingly. As expected, she knew there was always a price to pay. Nathaniel wouldn't reconcile with her so easily.
"You Hawthorne family really stick together," Reese mocked.
Nathaniel spoke frankly, "You should know this project wasn't yours to begin with. You made Alexander lie in bed for three days. He had already prepared the project proposal and was ready to bid, but you used your connections to snatch these projects without a word."
Malcolm frowned. From Nathaniel's tone, it seemed he wanted to hold someone accountable. His previous words of friendliness were just a prelude to making demands.
Malcolm stood up first, his eyes filled with gloom.
"I don't think you need to waste your efforts. Do you think it's reasonable for just you to apologize? From Alexander to your parents, almost everyone has given her a hard time. Now you want to settle this with a few words and have Reese return Alexander's project? Are you kidding?" Malcolm asked.
He didn't think it was necessary to argue with Nathaniel here. His purpose was clear.
No matter what, no matter how they talked, Reese would always be the one to suffer.
They came to seek peace. But in reality, they were calculating.
Malcolm pulled Reese up and spoke bluntly to Nathaniel, "Don't come looking for my wife again. You Hawthorne family only see benefits and don't care about her. We don't need you."
After saying that, Malcolm pulled Reese away without another word. Reese didn't say anything and let Malcolm lead her away.
To be honest, she wasn't very disappointed. After all, Nathaniel's appearance must have a reason. The Hawthorne family were all the same. None of them were better than the others.
They wouldn't come to Reese for no reason.
Nathaniel looked at the table full of untouched dishes and didn't get angry, just chuckled.
It seemed Reese had strong support and couldn't be easily provoked.
When he got home, Clara immediately came up and asked, "Nathaniel, how did it go? Did you convince that damn girl?"
Nathaniel frowned. "Mom, don't talk about her like that. After all, she is a member of the Hawthorne family. It's not appropriate to speak like that."
Clara was shocked. "Nathaniel, why are you speaking up for Reese like Sebastian?"
"Mom, I'm not speaking up for her. It's just that your deep hatred towards her makes it hard to resolve this issue. Because you all insisted on causing her trouble before, Reese is now unwilling to reconcile with our family," Nathaniel said.
"What? You mean she still doesn't want to reconcile and wants to go against the Hawthorne family?" Clara asked.
Clara thought Nathaniel had a sure plan before, but she didn't expect Reese to be so difficult. Almost everyone in the Hawthorne family had tried, but no one could take her down.
Reese was really hard to persuade.
"No choice. Let's see how things go. Maybe things will get better in a few days. In the meantime, don't provoke her anymore," Nathaniel warned.
Clara fell silent.
How could Clara do nothing but let Reese did whatever she wanted?
Nathaniel frowned, touching his chin as if in deep thought. "I'll think about it."
Clara didn't want to talk to him anymore, feeling that it was useless.
But before leaving, she left Nathaniel with a word.
"In any case, this matter must be handled properly. Otherwise, the Hawthorne family will be implicated," Clara said.
"I understand," Nathaniel replied.
After Clara went upstairs, Nathaniel dialed a stranger's number.
"Send me all the information on Reese Brooks. Also, her company should have some projects recently, right? I remember Peter Sullivan from the host side promised me something before. Have him cancel Reese's company's bid," Nathaniel demanded.
"Understood."
After hanging up, Nathaniel curled his lips into a mocking smile. Since they wouldn't budge, he would deal with them in the same way. No one would benefit.
Reese quickly got the news because the project was near completion, just waiting for notification to sign the contract. Who knew the other party would cancel at the last minute?
Reese knew the project's proposal was flawless, so the only issue was interference.
Her eyes darkened as she said to Calvin on the phone, "Did you find out who did it?"
"Nathaniel, the second young master of the Hawthorne family." Calvin had already sent people to investigate, knowing there must be something fishy.
Reese wasn't surprised, but just didn't expect Nathaniel to act so quickly. In just a few hours, he had someone cancel her project. It seemed Nathaniel had some skills.
Calvin hadn't heard Reese's voice for a while and couldn't help but call out, "Reese..."
"I heard. See if there's any way to salvage this," Reese said.
After all, the project's profit was significant, and she didn't want to let it go.
Calvin helplessly said, "The chances are slim because Nathaniel seems to have a deep relationship with Mr. Sullivan, the collaborator. Given how quickly they canceled our project, they've likely abandoned us."
Reese half-jokingly said, "I didn't expect you to be so smart recently, analyzing the situation so well. If that's the case, the project indeed has little to do with us now."
But Calvin felt unwilling. "Reese, are we just going to let it go? Nathaniel is targeting you, challenging your ability!"
Reese sneered. "Have you ever seen me let anything go?"
Calvin relaxed and smiled. "Indeed, never."
Reese always repaid her grudges. Letting things go was not something that happened to Reese.
"Well, since he's gone too far, there's no need for us to be merciful either."
