Chapter 508 Returning to the Brooks Family

After they finished, they headed upstairs. Reese checked the messages Louis had sent her on the computer. Everhart's whereabouts were still unclear, but there were some clues. They might need to search more tomorrow.

Reese forwarded the info Malcolm had given her to Louis. Louis called back almost immediately.

"What's going on?"

Reese laughed at Louis's tone. "You're just like me. I was surprised too. How did those two end up together?"

"Yeah, how did they? Reese, you need to visit the Brooks family tomorrow and see what they're up to."

This was insane. Who would dare to have connection with Everhart now? He was Nolan's top target. Did the Brooks family think they were invincible?

Louis's words hit home. "You're right. I'll check them out tomorrow. Maybe they don't know about Dahlia's situation."

"Yeah, I feel the same way."

Reese told Louis, "Keep investigating, but stay safe. I'll hang up now."

"Get some rest."

After hanging up, Reese touched her chin and thought for a moment. Then she asked Malcolm, "Do you think the Brooks family knows about this?"

"What do you think?" Malcolm shot back.

"Well... I don't know. Their actions are just so confusing."

Reese didn't want to dwell on it. She was exhausted and yawned.

"Forget it. I need sleep. Tomorrow morning, I'll visit the Brooks family and see what's up."

"Should I go with you?" Malcolm offered. Reese had been really busy and her mind was a bit chaotic. Having him with her might help.

Reese declined, "No need. You probably have a lot to handle."

She didn't want to take up Malcolm's time. He had been busy promoting her coffee and investigating Everhart's situation with Justin. Aiden was still in the hospital.

"It's okay. I'll go with you. I've already assigned other tasks to Justin."

Malcolm didn't want Reese to face it alone.

Seeing how insistent Malcolm was, Reese agreed, "Alright, we'll go together tomorrow. We'll leave as soon as we finish asking."

The Brooks family, a place filled with too many bad memories. She wished she could leave immediately. If it weren't for the seriousness of Everhart's situation, she wouldn't even want to visit the Brooks family.

"Okay, I'm going to sleep now." Reese collapsed onto the bed, too exhausted to move. She had been dealing with too much lately.

Malcolm looked at Reese's tired face, feeling heartbroken. He carefully held her in his arms, gently patting her back like comforting a child.

Maybe because Malcolm was comforting her, Reese slept soundly. She found herself increasingly drawn to the comfort of sleeping in Malcolm's arms. Sometimes, when he was busy and not home, she would suffer from insomnia, but she never mentioned it.

This was her vulnerability. She didn't want Malcolm to know. She always feared that if Malcolm ever stopped loving her, it would cut her deeply.

It was often said that even if you loved someone deeply, you should reserve at least one part of that love for yourself. She thought that made a lot of sense.

The next day, Reese woke up feeling completely refreshed.

She stretched and was about to get up when Malcolm pulled her back.

"Honey, stay a little longer. I haven't had enough sleep yet."

"If you want to sleep, go ahead. I need to get ready to visit the Brooks family."

If Everhart's situation didn't resolve soon, she would feel uneasy.

Hearing this, Malcolm got up immediately, full of energy.

"Let's go."

Malcolm grabbed Reese's hand, kissed it with his warm lips, and his eyes were filled with affection.

Reese felt like she was living in a dream, but she feared that it might all suddenly disappear one day, like a mirage.

"Alright." Reese composed herself and didn't say anything further.

When they drove to the Brooks family, Kenneth and Nancy were both sitting in chairs, looking worried.

The company hadn't been doing well recently. Ever since Dahlia offended a business partner, their company's reputation had plummeted, and many partners were now reluctant to work with them.

Nancy was even more frustrated. The company's poor performance had affected their quality of life.

As soon as Reese stepped in, she could feel the tense atmosphere.

Nancy looked up unintentionally and saw Reese, her face full of surprise. "Reese, what are you doing here?"

"I'm here to ask you about something about Dahlia and Everhart."

Nancy sipped her coffee indifferently. "I don't know what you're talking about. I have no idea what Dahlia has been up to lately."

It sounded like she was trying to avoid the question.

But the more Nancy acted this way, the more Reese felt she definitely knew something.

Without waiting for Nancy and Kenneth, Reese sat down directly.

Seeing Malcolm still standing, she called him over, "Honey, sit."

When Malcolm sat down, it made Nancy and Kenneth feel completely pressured.

Nancy couldn't hold it in any longer and stood up from her chair. "Reese, if you're here to visit us, you're welcome. But if you're here to cause trouble, I must ask you to leave."

Reese casually rested her hand on the armrest of the chair. "Mom, you should know me. I wouldn't come here without knowing something. Besides, haven't you always wanted Dahlia to marry into a wealthy family? Everhart has nothing. Now that Nolan is hunting him down, you must know what will happen if he's found, right?"

Having spent so many years with Nancy and Kenneth, Reese knew their nature too well. They were the type who were tough on the outside but couldn't handle any real trouble.

If they knew that Dahlia's involvement with Everhart could lead to serious consequences, they might not be so dismissive.

Nancy instinctively glanced at Kenneth, who quickly caught on.

He asked Reese, "What are you talking about? Who is Nolan, and who is Everhart?"

Reese sneered inwardly. Fine, they were still pretending. She wondered how long they could keep it up.

Malcolm sat beside Reese, crossing his legs, his chiseled features appearing slightly stern.

"Mr. Brooks, Reese is no longer your daughter. We come here as guests, and there's not even a cup of coffee?"

"Of course." Despite Kenneth's reluctance, Malcolm's influence in the industry meant he couldn't afford to offend him. He quickly instructed the servants, "What are you waiting for? Bring Mr. Flynn some coffee."

"Yes, sir."

The servants didn't dare to delay and quickly went to prepare the coffee.

Malcolm said to Kenneth, "Mr. Brooks might not know the situation. Reese has been a bit tired these past few days, so let me explain. Everhart used to work for Nolan. Nolan is well-known in the underworld. Even if Mr. Brooks isn't familiar with him, you should have heard of Nolan."

Kenneth remained silent, and Malcolm continued, "Now, Everhart is being hunted by Nolan. If it's discovered that your daughter is involved with him, it could be very troublesome. If the Brooks family wants to avoid getting entangled in these messy affairs, I suggest you ensure Dahlia doesn't have too much contact with Everhart."

Kenneth's face immediately turned grim. He was aware of Dahlia's recent involvement with Everhart.

But before understanding Reese and Malcolm's purpose, he didn't dare to speak rashly.

Now, hearing Malcolm's words, he began to panic. Everyone knew Nolan was in the underworld. They did legitimate business and didn't want to get involved with such people.

They didn't want to cause trouble that they couldn't handle.

Nancy, less bold than Kenneth, was already panicking after hearing Malcolm.

"So, you're saying that Everhart is involved in that world, and now their boss is hunting him down?"

Reese nodded. "That's right. But we haven't been able to locate Everhart. We found out he was with Dahlia, so we came to ask."

Kenneth sneered, suddenly understanding Reese's intention.

"So, you're not here to care about us. You're here to ask about Everhart's whereabouts."
