Chapter 584 Kneel Down
Sebastian said seriously, "Hey, Mr. Flynn, I wasn't joking earlier. I meant what I said."
He was talkin' about that whole marriage thing with Alyssa. Even though she brought it up, he was down for it, too.
Malcolm couldn't believe Sebastian was for real.
He couldn't make up his mind right then, so he just told Sebastian, "It's too soon to talk about this. Let's chat later."
"Yeah, I get it." No way they could decide that fast, especially since he and Alyssa barely knew each other. They'd only met a few times, and those meetings were kinda rough.
After Sebastian bounced, Malcolm shook his head, feelin' all kinds of confused. 'Is this relationship doomed from the start?'
He couldn't even picture what would go down if the Flynn and Hawthorne families became in-laws. They'd probably end up at each other's throats.
Just thinkin' about it gave him the chills.
Malcolm headed back to the ward and looked at Reese, still out cold. He felt super bummed, but at least she wasn't in danger anymore, which was a huge relief.
Calvin, Ryan, and Louis walked in, too.
Malcolm told them, "You guys have been runnin' on fumes these past few days. Go home and rest. I'll take care of Reese. I'll get the house staff to take shifts. She'll be fine."
Calvin looked at Reese, pale and hooked up to all those tubes, and felt like crap. "Mr. Flynn, when's Reese gonna wake up?"
"Grandpa Robert said maybe tomorrow, but it depends on her. If she's got the will to fight and bounces back quick, she should be okay." Malcolm was still kinda freaked out. Even though he knew Reese was out of the woods, he couldn't help but worry since she hadn't woken up yet.
He couldn't show it in front of Calvin and the others. It was his burden to bear alone; no need to drag them into it.
Calvin and Ryan felt a bit better after hearing that.
Calvin piped up, "Alright, Mr. Flynn, we're outta here. Hit us up when Reese wakes up."
"Sure thing, don't stress. I'll have Justin let you know."
Calvin, Ryan, and Louis left the ward. On their out of the hospital, they saw Sofia sittin' on a bench, cryin' by herself.
Calvin realized he hadn't seen Sofia earlier. She'd been there the whole time, but with everything goin' on, no one noticed.
Ryan nudged Calvin. "Dude, you should go talk to her."
Calvin pointed at himself. "Me? Seriously? You want me to comfort her? I'm not even that close to her. How am I supposed to do that?"
Ryan smacked the back of his head. "C'mon, man. She took a big risk for Reese. If it wasn't for her, her grandma might still be alive."
Ryan felt kinda bad for Sofia.
Calvin was still holdin' a grudge against Sofia. "That's 'cause you don't know why she was with Nolan in the first place. If she hadn't agreed to help Nolan mess with Reese, none of this woulda happened."
Reese had trusted her so much in college and still believed in her later. How could Sofia team up with Nolan to hurt her?
Sofia heard Calvin's words but didn't argue. Instead, she felt super guilty. "You're right. I was totally out of it back then. If I hadn't gone along with Nolan's plan, Reese wouldn't be in this mess, and my grandma..."
Her grandma might've died sooner, but at least she wouldn't have died in horror.
She could picture how terrified her grandma must've been, and it made her want to slap herself. Why did she do it? Why didn't she think it through?
Everything she was going through now was her own fault.
Seeing Sofia cry harder, Calvin couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for her.
He turned to Ryan and the others. "You guys go ahead. I'll catch up later."
Ryan and Louis nodded. "Alright."
After they left, Calvin sat next to Sofia. "Your grandma's illness meant she didn't have long. I get why you agreed to Nolan's demands to save her, but I still think you shouldn't go against your conscience, no matter what."
Otherwise, karma would come.
Sofia covered her face, her shoulders shaking. "I know. I get it. One bad choice led to another, and I almost got Reese killed."
"Don't worry about Reese for now. She's out of danger but hasn't woken up yet. If she wakes up tomorrow, she should be okay."
This time, it really seemed like they had some divine help.
Sofia looked at Calvin in surprise. "Really? Reese is really okay? That's awesome. I was just thinking that if something happened to her, I could never make up for it, even if I died."
Even though she hadn't done anything yet, her conscience was still eating at her.
Calvin stood up and sighed. "This whole thing taught you a lesson. I hope you can live better from now on. Your grandma's free from suffering now. You don't need to feel guilty. Her illness was a torment for her."
Sofia nodded. "Thanks, Calvin."
"No need to thank me. I'm just speaking for Reese. You're lucky. With Reese's personality, she usually wouldn't forgive anyone who betrayed her. Maybe you stopped just in time, and because you risked your life for her in college, she values relationships deeply, even though others think she's cold."
After Calvin left, Sofia looked up at the bright blue sky and prayed to God. 'God, please let my grandma be at peace in heaven and let Reese wake up soon. I'll do anything.'
Nolan's drama was over, but when Sebastian got back, things didn't go so smooth.
As soon as Alexander brought him back and they hit the living room, they heard Stephen's angry roar.
"Bastard, kneel down!"
Sebastian was startled but his pride wouldn't let him do it. "Dad, I didn't do anything wrong. Why should I kneel?"
