Chapter 555 Down From Now
"Your gun, it must have come from Nolan, right?" Malcolm inquired.
The mere mention of it plunged Vincent into a heavy silence. The origin of his gun was a truth he couldn't evade. While he hadn't used it lethally, the fact remained—he had purchased it from Nolan. Dealing in firearms and ammunition was a grave crime, a felony that not even the influential Flynn family could shield him from.
Seeing Vincent's troubled face, Reese felt no sympathy. This was something Vincent should have anticipated; he had only himself to blame.
Malcolm waved to the police, frowning. "Take him away."
The police quickly took Vincent and the others who had come to kill Reese into custody. They then went to Nolan's residence, only to find it completely empty.
Reese looked at the empty house and failed to stifle a sneer. "He sure ran fast."
Malcolm, however, was not in a hurry. Nolan was beyond help. There was nothing but the a sentence ahead of him
The police were fairly aware of Reese and Malcolm's background and capabilities. Nolan had stood firm in Atlanta for many years, with extensive connections and resources. Finding him wouldn't be easy.
Officer Orville Kidd looked at Malcolm. "Mr. Flynn, could you and Mrs. Flynn help us find Nolan? It might be difficult for us to do it alone, or it could take a long time."
Malcolm readily agreed, "No problem, we will fully cooperate with the police."
"Thank you."
As they prepared to depart, Vincent's voice cut through the silence, halting Malcolm in his tracks. With an air of frostiness, Malcolm shot back, "What else do you have to say?"
Vincent sneered, "Do you think Everly is any better? She was involved in all my plans, including this one. She even poisoned Grandpa's medicine. Malcolm, do you really think everyone in the Flynn family respects you? They don't. Everly loves you so much, but you only have eyes for Reese. You've never considered how devoted Everly is to you. Everything she did was for you."
With this, Malcolm's face darkened, his jaw clenched, and his whole body exuded a chilling aura. The next second, he kicked Vincent in the stomach, sending him sprawling to the ground. Pointing at Vincent, he roared, "You two are just no good."
It wasn't until that moment that Malcolm learnt about how many times they had conspired against Aiden. Reflecting on it, his earlier decision to simply banish Everly from the house felt far too merciful.
Vincent stood his ground, steadfast in his belief that had it not been for Malcolm, he would have ascended to the presidency of the Flynn Group. Never once did he question his own abilities for such a role.
Vincent was taken away by the police, and Reese and Malcolm got into their car to head back.
Reese noticed that Malcolm hadn't spoken, knowing he was likely brooding on Everly. "What are you planning to do?" she asked softly.
"She cares so much about the Flynn family's wealth and status, doesn't she? She's used to living a pampered life as Ms. Flynn, right? Then I'll let her experience what it's like to be an ordinary person," Malcolm said indifferently.
Hearing this, Reese could have a rough picture of what Malcolm intended to do. Whenever Malcolm sprang into action, it was never a straightforward affair.
In the end, despite Malcolm's prior warning to Everly, it was her own obstinacy that drove her to collude with Vincent and engage in these unforgivable deeds.
Some people were just beyond help unless it was from their own.
For this particular situation, Malcolm decided against a direct confrontation and instead opted to work covertly. He contacted Justin with a specific mission in mind. "Justin, disrupt Everly's living situation. Make sure she doesn't have it too easy. Freeze all her cards to prevent her from accessing the Flynn family funds. Additionally, restrict her entry into restaurants and exclusive clubs. Are you clear on the plan?"
In other words, he intended to push Everly to the brink.
Hearing this, Justin couldn't help but shudder. When Malcolm took action, it was truly terrifying.
This would make Everly suffer more than death. She had lived in the Flynn family for so many years, had tasted all kinds of gourmet food, and now had to live an ordinary life. How could Everly possibly get used to that? It would kill her.
Justin had no choice but to comply with Malcolm's orders. "I'll go right away."
After hanging up the phone, Reese said to Malcolm, "I'll have Calvin and the others investigate Nolan. I'll handle the rest."
She could see that Malcolm was in a bad mood. After all, it was bad enough to find out that two of his siblings had betrayed him on the same day. To cap it all, his friends did it, too..
Trying to ease Reese’s concerns, Malcolm reassured her, "It's okay, honey. I've got this. Regardless of the challenges ahead, he retained a steadfast resilience."
Although Malcolm had already kicked Everly out, she wasn't particularly disheartened because she believed that one day she would return to the Flynn family. There would always be an opportunity. She didn't believe that Reese could stay in the Flynn family forever.
Post-meal, Everly found solace in her friends' advice, feeling reinvigorated and more confident. Bolstered by their support, she now saw a clear path to potentially undermine Reese. With a well-thought-out plan in hand, Everly was ready to set her strategy in motion. It was no longer a matter of if, but when she would execute her cunning scheme.
Everly took out her card from her purse and called the waiter, "Check, please."
A waiter came over with the card machine, ready to swipe, but then informed her, "I'm sorry, Ms. Flynn, the card isn't working."
"How come?" Everly frowned.
"Because the Flynn Group just issued an order that you are no longer allowed to dine at our restaurant unless you use your own card. In other words, the Flynn Group's card can't be used," the waiter explained.
The Flynn family's cards were specially made with specific markings from the Flynn Group, making them easy to identify.
Everly was taken by surprise. How could Malcolm think of pushing her to the brink? Kicking her out of the Flynn family was bad enough, but now he was also restricting her from entering these restaurants? Was he trying to drive her to despair?
Upon hearing the waiter's unwitting revelation, Everly's friends cast curious glances in her direction. One of them questioned, "Everly, what's going on? Were you kicked out of the Flynn family? Didn't you just say you just had a fight with Malcolm?"
Everly, feeling embarrassed by the sudden exposure of her deceit, stiffened as her friends' questioning gaze intensified. Hoping to deflect attention, she swiftly passed another card to the waiter, managing a strained smile.
The waiter, feeling awkward, took the card but soon returned it with a stiff expression. "This card isn't working either."
Everly was shocked. "This is my own card."
"I don't know what's going on, Ms. Flynn. Maybe you should ask your friends to help you pay."
The friends who had been giving Everly advice moments ago were now making excuses to leave, one by one.
"Hey, honey, I'll be home soon."
"Something urgent at the office? I'll be right there."
With these said, they all quickly said goodbye to Everly.
"Everly, sorry, we'll talk next time. I have something to take care of."
"Hey, you guys..." Everly wanted to call them back, but they all left quickly. She knew they wouldn't be associated with her anymore.
Hearing that Malcolm had blacklisted her, they were afraid of getting involved with her.
The waiter, seeing Everly's friends leave, felt even more awkward for her. "Ms. Flynn, this..."
Everly felt extremely embarrassed, especially with so many people watching. Everyone knew that those who dined here were either rich or noble and remotely incapable to afford a meal. She was a regular here.
After much thought, Everly cautiously asked, "I'm a regular customer here. Could you ask your manager to make an exception and let me put it on my tab? I'll pay next time."
