Chapter 607 Then are you worried about me?

Stephen was caught off guard by Reese's question. The chances seemed to be slim.

He took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool, and said, "Reese, come on, for your mom's sake, don't be mad at me. Come back to the Hawthorne family. Let's just be a family again, alright?"

Reese looked at him like he just told the world's funniest joke. "Mr. Hawthorne, do I really need to tell you how selfish and fake you are? If you cared about family, you wouldn't have kicked my mom and me out in the first place."

"It wasn't my choice to kick you out; it was because of Clara. You saw how she is. I couldn't protect you and your mom back then."

Reese rolled her eyes. "Oh, really? Then why didn't you ever come to see us after we got booted out? If my mom didn't want to survive, we wouldn't have ended up with the Brooks family."

In the end, it was his fault Reese's mom didn't make it. She couldn't see what was so great about Stephen.

Stephen, all emotional, tried to grab Reese's arm, but she dodged him mercilessly.

Reese's eyes were ice-cold. "You know I hate being touched, especially by people I can't stand."

Stephen awkwardly pulled his hand back. "I... Reese, I know I messed up. Can you forgive me just this once? I'm really sorry."

But Reese wasn't buying it.

She shot him a look. "Are you seriously being sincere with me?"

Stephen nodded. "I wasn't before, but now, I really want to make things right."

"No thanks. We both know you're not here to make peace. The Hawthorne family wishes I'd just disappear. If it weren't for the stock market crash, you wouldn't be here," With that, Reese decided she was done with this ludicrous conversation and turned to leave.

Watching her walk away, Stephen sighed, "Is this how it's gonna be between us forever?"

Reese went back to the room and told Alyssa, "You stay here and look after Sebastian. Malcolm and I are heading back. Call us if anything happens."

Alyssa wasn't too worried since Reese seemed fine. Reese was tough, way tougher than most people.

Reese didn't say much, and Alyssa didn't push her, thinking it wasn't her place.

Knowing his dad, Sebastian couldn't help but ask when he saw Reese's cold expression, "Reese, did my dad say something to upset you? Just ignore him."

Reese got that Sebastian was worried. "Don't worry, I won't let him get to me. Take care of yourself. I'm out."

Sebastian knew he couldn't rush things and didn't blame Reese. She'd given him chances before, but he blew them. "Alright, Reese, take care."

After Reese and Malcolm left, it was just Alyssa and Sebastian in the room.

Alyssa turned to Sebastian, "I really don't get what your dad's thinking. Reese is amazing, and he doesn't see it. Look at the Hawthorne family; none of them can hold a candle to Reese."

Sebastian let out a bitter laugh, "You don't have to tell me; I already get it. Why else would I be so into Reese?"

Alyssa knew Sebastian had always been on Reese's side, just like her. It wasn't his fault. "Can't your dad be reasoned with? People have feelings; how can he be such a jerk? Even if he doesn't want to acknowledge Reese, he shouldn't treat her like that."

Sebastian shrugged, feeling helpless. "I don't know what to say. Now he's suspicious of everyone, especially Reese. My dad, at his age, probably can't get over the old beef with my mom's brothers."

Alyssa didn't want to dwell on it, so she tried to comfort Sebastian, "Don't stress about it. Just get some rest."

Thinking about Alyssa taking care of him for the next few days, Sebastian felt a bit happy.

He tentatively asked, "By the way, was I in a lot of danger this time?"

"Of course, it was dangerous. If it weren't for Reese, you'd be six feet under by now," Alyssa still felt a chill just thinking about it.

Sebastian looked at Alyssa seriously, feeling a bit nervous, and then asked, "Were you... worried about me?"

Alyssa didn't hesitate. "Of course, I was worried. You have no idea; I was worried sick. When the doctor said you might not make it, I was terrified you'd really die."

Sebastian half-joked, "Right, if I died, you'd probably be all alone."

"Who said I'd be alone? There are plenty of guys out there. Do you think I can't find someone else?" Alyssa turned her face away shily.

Sebastian chuckled, holding Alyssa's hand. "Alright, I know you were worried about me. Considering today's danger, I'd rather be the one injured. At least then, you wouldn't be the one in the operating room."

"Don't be dense. This was my mess, and I dragged you into it. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have gotten hurt."

"It's okay. We're both fine now, aren't we?" Sebastian gently comforted Alyssa, and they had a pleasant conversation.

When Stephen came in, he saw Sebastian and Alyssa, who had caused his hospitalization, in a warm atmosphere.

Stephen was furious, "Sebastian, why don't you let your mom take care of you? Call your mom and have her come back. Ms. Flynn has been pampered all her life. How would she know how to take care of a paitent?"

Of course, Sebastian refused. He finally had this opportunity and wouldn't let it go easily. "I don't want my mom here. She keeps nagging all day about nothing, it's driving me nuts. Besides, it's a head injury; everything else is fine. Her coming here won't help. I don't need someone to feed me. The doctors can change the bandages."

Stephen knew Sebastian's temperament was hard to control; ordinary people couldn't handle him.

He didn't have the energy to deal with him now. "Find some time to talk to Reese again. Her temper is just like yours."

Alyssa chimed in, "If it weren't for you, Reese would have gone home with you long ago. Don't think everyone is like what you think they are, coveting the Hawthorne family's wealth."
