Chapter 27 Reese Lays Down the Law

When Justin first caught a glimpse of that figure from behind, he was dead sure it was Reese. But then, after mulling it over, he realized that aside from their similar backs, these two were like night and day.

"Maybe we totally messed up. If Mrs. Flynn was rolling in dough, why would she shack up with the Flynn family?"

By this point, his meeting was about to kick off, so Malcolm shoved those thoughts aside.

"Alright, let's get this meeting started."

Reese, who was eavesdropping by the door, heard them drop the topic and snuck back to her room with a sly grin. Good thing she had Calvin set everything up beforehand.

Otherwise, if Malcolm really dug into her past, he'd uncover everything. It sucked she didn't snag that fancy bracelet today, but who was Malcolm buying it for anyway?

Could he actually be seeing someone else on the side?

If he was planning to give it to another chick, she'd rather have it herself. He could change a gift for that woman, but she couldn't just bring up the bracelet to Malcolm.

She was stuck and had to let it go, even though it bugged her.

After munching on some BBQ and zoning out in front of the TV for a bit, Malcolm barged in. Reese quickly cleaned up the table and got to her feet.

"You're done with work. I'll go get things ready."

"Yeah." Malcolm's tone was flat. Reese figured he was just beat and went to prep the herbs and needles for his bath and acupuncture.

When Malcolm finished his bath, he coughed lightly as he walked back into the room. "Considering how you've been all over taking care of me lately, I should show some gratitude."

"What kind of gratitude?" Reese asked nervously, hoping he wasn't hinting at something steamy.

Seeing her freaked-out look, Malcolm flicked her forehead.

"What are you thinking? I'm talking about a gift for you."
Reese instinctively touched her forehead, looking at Malcolm all puzzled.

"What's this about?"

Malcolm pulled out a delicate box from under the pillow and handed it to her.

"Open it."

Reese opened it, curiosity piqued, and was immediately floored, covering her mouth in shock.

No way... wasn't this the exquisite bracelet she was drooling over at the auction today?

She stared at Malcolm, wide-eyed. "You're really giving this to me?"

Such a pricey piece, and Malcolm was just handing it over?

"Who else would I give a woman's bracelet to?" His words had a deeper meaning.

Reese was at a loss for words. It felt like she'd been yanked from hell straight to heaven. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and her smile stretched wider.

She wasted no time slipping the bracelet onto her wrist. Under the light, it looked even more stunning, sparkling brilliantly.

Reese was in love with it.

Seeing her over the moon, Malcolm knew he'd nailed it with this gift.

"Looks like you really dig it, huh?"

Reese couldn't stop grinning. "Of course I love it. This is..."

She paused, almost giving herself away.

Noticing her shift in expression, Malcolm raised an eyebrow.

"This is what?"

Reese threw her head back and laughed heartily. "This is from my dearest husband."

To show her appreciation, she even wrapped her arms around Malcolm's neck and planted a kiss on his handsome face.

Malcolm was momentarily taken aback, then a barely-there smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

This gift was well deserved.

The next morning, Reese was the first one downstairs for breakfast. She'd been tipped off about a regular meeting that morning and was specifically reminded not to be late, so she got up early.

While munching on her breakfast, Alyssa's sharp eyes zeroed in on the bracelet on Reese's wrist, and her eyes nearly popped out.

"Wait a minute... isn't that the bracelet that went for ten million dollars at the auction yesterday? How the heck is it on your wrist?"
Reese thought to herself, she didn't expect Alyssa to recognize the value of the bracelet.

She admitted calmly, "Yep, my husband gave it to me."

Alyssa's face twisted in shock. "Is Malcolm out of his mind? Giving you such an expensive bracelet."

Reese found it amusing and looked at her confidently. "Why is it crazy for my husband to give me something? Isn't that perfectly normal?"

Alyssa shot Reese a disdainful look. "It's not a problem for Malcolm to give his wife something, but it depends on the person. Someone like you, wearing cheap clothes, flaunting such an expensive bracelet is a joke. Even if people see it, they'll think it's fake and it'll just devalue the bracelet."

"Look at yourself, do you even deserve to wear something so pricey?"

Reese didn't feel inferior at all. The fact that she liked the million-dollar bracelet was a blessing for the bracelet, wasn't it? But Alyssa's mouth was getting nastier.

She calmly glanced at her watch. "Hmm, I still have some time. Let me teach you some manners."

Alyssa didn't expect Reese to not only be unashamed but also brazenly claim she would teach her manners.

She scoffed disdainfully. "Who do you think you are to teach me manners!"

Reese stood up, slowly rolled up her sleeves, and walked towards Alyssa. Alyssa, for some reason, felt a bit scared seeing Reese's demeanor and watched her warily.

"Reese, what are you going to do?"

Reese walked up to her, towering over Alyssa, her height and presence overwhelming her.

She picked up a cup and said naturally, "Teach you some manners."

With that, she pinched Alyssa's lips with two fingers, forcing her mouth open. Before Alyssa could react, Reese poured the water from the cup into her mouth.
Alyssa struggled frantically. The more she fought, the more fiercely the water poured, making her cough violently.

When the cup was finally empty, Reese let go and stepped aside to avoid getting splashed.

Alyssa clutched her chest, her face red with embarrassment, glaring daggers at Reese.

"Are you out of your mind? How dare you do this to me!"

Alyssa kept patting her chest, coughing uncontrollably, almost feeling like she was going to pass out.

Reese placed the cup back on the table, her eyes cold and intimidating.

"I'm not crazy. It’s you not respecting me. After all, I am Malcolm's legal wife. You have no right to be disrespectful to me. Whether I come from the countryside or deserve this million-dollar bracelet is not for you to judge. If you think I'm not worthy of Malcolm, go tell Grandpa."

But even if she wanted to leave now, Aiden wouldn't let her go. Malcolm's recovery relied on her. Would they really miss such a good opportunity?

Alyssa was speechless. She had underestimated Reese. Reese knew she wouldn't dare to cause a scene with Grandpa, let alone Malcolm.

Malcolm was willing to give her a million-dollar bracelet. If she acted rashly, who knew who would suffer more?

But she couldn't swallow her anger!

If she couldn't complain, could she not even win in a verbal attack?

Alyssa raised her head arrogantly. "Do you really think you're significant? Just because you married into the Flynn family, you think you can act all high and mighty? Officially, you may be Malcolm's wife, but no one in the Flynn family acknowledges your status. Don't think too highly of yourself. Be careful not to fall from a great height."

Reese didn't respond. She just slowly reached for the milk cup on the table. As soon as she picked it up, Alyssa stood up from her chair, looking at her nervously.

"What are you going to do now?"
