Chapter 514 Fighting Side by Side

"What were you thinking? Do you know how dangerous that plan was? You should've woken me up."

Reese's anger had cooled a bit. She realized it wasn't all Malcolm's fault; she had overslept. Normally, she'd wake up at the slightest noise, but this time, she didn't know what happened. Maybe she was just too tired. She had no idea when she fell asleep or when Malcolm carried her to bed.

Malcolm's face was stern, his lips tight, and his eyes, usual gentle, were sharp.

"I'm your husband. Do I need your permission? If word got out, people would call me a henpecked husband." He turned his head, his handsome face tinged with anger. "Don't I deserve some respect?"

Reese struggled to explain, "It's not about respect; I'm just worried about you..."

"Reese, I'm your husband, and I'm also a man. From now on, you can't handle risky things; leave them to me."

Malcolm suddenly stood up, pulling Reese into his arms without giving her a chance to struggle, his attitude strong and unyielding.

Reese was stunned by both his actions and his words.

Both of them were actually thinking of each other, worried that these matters would affect one another. Each would rather bear the consequences themselves.

Reese now realized even more that Malcolm truly loved her with all his heart. They said true love was revealed in times of hardship, and she was finally seeing it.

Her anger dissipated instantly.

Especially considering Malcolm's usual cold and bad temper in front of others, he only argued with her for a few sentences. If it were someone else, they might not even know where they ended up.

Malcolm's face was tense, his eyes cold, and it was clear that he exuded a chilling aura.

Reese suddenly threw herself into his arms, and Malcolm, afraid she might fall, quickly reached out to catch her.

Even this small gesture didn't escape Reese's notice.

She looked up, her smile bright as the stars, her eyes shining. Malcolm's cold demeanor instantly melted, his expression softening as he chuckled helplessly. "You must be my destiny from a past life, meant to be in this one."

"Then accept it."

"My pleasure."

Malcolm held Reese, his eyes full of laughter, and kissed her lips.

Reese remembered the time and quickly pushed him away.

"We haven't finished our business yet. What's the situation with Everhart? Have you investigated thoroughly?"

"Don't worry, there's no problem. Louis has checked everything thoroughly. We'll definitely find Everhart tomorrow."

Malcolm knew what Reese was worried about and tried to reassure her.

He wanted Reese to know that no matter what happened, she had nothing to worry about.

Reese tightly held Malcolm's hand, her face showing some anxiety.

"I don't know what's wrong with me. I used to be braver, but now I seem to be getting more timid."

She was always afraid that the people around her would get hurt. She didn't like this feeling; she preferred being the strong Reese who wasn't afraid of any threats.

Malcolm held her shoulders, a smile playing on his lips.

"Do you know why? Because now you have people you care about. You've opened your heart to us."

"But... this way, others can exploit my vulnerabilities, making it more dangerous for me."

Reese had been betrayed before. She had a friend who was very good to her, and she didn't know how cold-hearted people could be. She treated others well if they treated her well, but then people from Nolan's side found out and used her friend to threaten her. The situation became very complicated, and she didn't want to go through that again.

Malcolm rubbed her head, his voice soothing and patient. "Don't worry. No matter what happens, I'll help you solve it."

Malcolm's words filled the emptiness in Reese's heart, stabilizing her once shaky emotions.

For the first time in many years, Reese had found someone who could give her a sense of security, someone she could completely trust.

As long as Malcolm spoke, her heart would calm down.

"Okay, thank you." Reese rarely leaned gently on Malcolm's shoulder.

The next day, when Reese woke up, Malcolm was still holding her tightly. She tried to break free but eventually gave up.

Malcolm's grip on her waist tightened, making her look down and laugh softly. "Come on, get up. We have important things to do."

Malcolm kissed her hair, his voice still husky from sleep, sounding particularly pleasant. "I'll go. You sleep a bit more. Once we catch Everhart, I'll come back and let you know."

"No, this is too important. I have to go."

She immediately refused, afraid that Malcolm would really stop her, and hurriedly pushed him away to get up.

Malcolm watched Reese go into the bathroom, feeling helpless.

He really didn't know how to deal with Reese. He could only spoil her because she was his beloved.

Malcolm got up and then called Justin.

"How's it going? Have you sent people to keep watch?"

"Yes, Mr. Flynn. But I don't know about Louis's side."

He didn't have Louis's contact information, so he could only manage his own side.

"Don't worry about Louis. Just keep an eye on your side. Did you look at the data I sent you?"

Malcolm and Louis had spent the night organizing information from the hospital and the airport. They had indeed found traces of Everhart, so they were sure he would appear at one of these two places today. As for why he would go to the hospital first, that was unclear.

Malcolm had a bad feeling. Given Everhart's character, if Dahlia was really pregnant, he would definitely not want the child.

Justin nodded. "Understood."

Malcolm saw that Reese had come out and said to Justin on the phone, "Alright, we'll head over soon."

Since Everhart hadn't broken any laws, they couldn't involve the police and had to handle it privately. It wasn't easy, given the high traffic of the hospital and the airport. If they weren't careful, Everhart could easily escape.

If he got away this time, he would only become more cautious in the future, making it much harder to find him again.

After hanging up, Reese grabbed her bag and said to Malcolm, "Let's go, honey."

This was probably the second time they were fighting side by side.

But having someone to fight alongside was actually quite nice.

They quickly got ready and left. When they arrived at the hospital, Reese said to Malcolm, "I'll go to the obstetrics department first. They might be there."

If they could find Dahlia, they would find Everhart.
