Chapter 547 Scheming
"What do I want? Of course, I want Reese dead," Vincent declared with a frightening resolve, leaving Everly beside him in shock. Even though she didn't want Reese alive either, the murderous intent held in Vincent was something not everyone could muster.
It seemed Vincent was determined this time. With Reese in the hospital, her time ticking away. The looming question was if she managed to survive tomorrow's surgery, things would get very complicated.
Worried, Everly asked, "Are you sure you want to make it happen in the hospital? Malcolm will definitely be there day and night with Reese."
"That's where you need to do something with Aiden. Get Malcolm to go see him, and it'll be fine, right?"
This strategic move would open up new avenues for Vincent. With Reese's precarious state, escaping his clutches seemed an impossibility. It was Everly's first time doing something like this, and she was very scared, but Vincent kept reminding her. "If you think about Reese being with Malcolm, you'll go soft. If you don't want them together, you need to be hard," he offered.
"I..."
"Think about it. You've spent so much effort on Malcolm and have been by his side for so many years, and now because of Reese, your relationship is about to end. In the future, you'll have to endure seeing them together, and maybe soon, they'll even have kids. By then, it'll be too late for anything," Vincent continued.
The more Everly dwelled on it, the more fear crept into her heart. She placed the blame squarely on Reese, believing that her current predicament was a direct result of Reese's presence. Everly harbored a glimmer of hope that with Reese out of the way, her chance to be with Malcolm would finally materialize.
"Okay, tell me what I should do. I'll listen to you," Everly agreed.
"That's the spirit." Vincent looked pleased. With Everly on board, he had a steadfast ally by his side. Without her cooperation, things would have taken a challenging turn. Now they were a team. No matter what, Everly couldn't get rid of the responsibility easily.
After making their plans, Everly headed straight towards the hospital. Jason was there taking care of Aiden, who had been recuperating in the hospital for a while and was much better.
Jason was surprised to see Everly. "Ms. Flynn, what brings you here?"
"I'm here to visit Grandpa," Everly said, lugging a bunch of items along to lend credibility to her statement.
Jason couldn't refuse Everly entry, particularly since Malcolm had ejected her previously for her misdeeds. It was her first visit to see Aiden in quite some time.
Despite not visiting Aiden during his earlier health struggles, she had suddenly arrived now. Jason, experienced in counter-surveillance due to his organization background, sensed something awry. Even though he couldn't pinpoint Everly's intentions, he felt a suspicious air about her. Keeping his suspicions concealed, Jason cordially greeted Everly, "Ms. Flynn, please come in. Mr. Aiden Flynn is inside. He has been doing much better lately."
"That's great. I was worried about Grandpa's health. I've been busy lately and haven't had time to pay a visit." Everly pretended to be happy for Aiden, but in reality, hearing that Aiden was much better made her worry about how to proceed.
Everly smiled hypocritically. "Mr. Tartt, I'll go in and see Grandpa first."
"Alright, Ms. Flynn, this way, please. I'll go get Mr. Aiden Flynn some water," Jason responded.
"Okay." Everly's spirits lifted when she heard learning that Jason was stepping out to fetch some water. This was a rare opening, signaling a chance for her to make her move.
Jason left, leaving only Everly and Aiden inside. Seizing the moment, Everly approached Aiden eagerly and said, "Grandpa, how have you been? I'm sorry I haven't been able to visit you for so long."
Aiden's health had experienced a remarkable upturn, largely attributed to Reese's regular visits for check-ups. Without Reese's care, his recovery wouldn't have been as swift.
Encountering Everly, Aiden felt a sense of joy. She had been a part of the Flynn family and had been raised by him, making it hard to deny the lingering affection.
"It's okay. Reese and Malcolm have been coming to visit me recently. I'll probably be discharged in a couple of days," Aiden replied.
Everly took out the milk Vincent had prepared, which had been spiked. If Aiden drank it, he would experience cardiac arrest but wouldn't be in any life-threatening danger. In the inevitable scenario that a family member would need to authorize treatment, Malcolm would undoubtedly be the one to step in.
"Grandpa, I brought you some milk. I've tried it myself; it's absolutely good. Since you're staying in the hospital, the food might not be as tasty as what you're used to at home. It's crucial to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need to recover swiftly."
As Aiden accepted the milk Everly offered, he raised it to his lips for a sip. At the same time, Jason, in the midst of fetching water, dialed Malcolm. "Mr. Malcolm Flynn, this is Jason. Everly Flynn is currently visiting Mr. Aiden Flynn, but something doesn't feel quite right," he relayed with a sense of concern in his voice.
"What's off?" Malcolm was naturally worried about Grandpa. After all, Everly was no longer the same Everly. Caution was paramount in this situation.
"I can't say for sure, but something feels wrong," Jason replied.
"Keep an eye on her. If anything happens to Grandpa, make sure she doesn't slip away," Malcolm instructed firmly.
If Everly was there to visit Aiden, she should leave after the visit. But if something did happen, Everly would definitely be held responsible.
Jason nodded. "I understand, Mr. Flynn. Don't worry."
Malcolm couldn't go for a check now; he still had to handle things with Reese. He could only let Jason keep watch.
Aiden, a man of acute discernment, hesitated before consuming the unusual milk, noting that it didn't resemble any brand he had encountered before. With a quizzical look, he turned to Everly and inquired, "Why haven't I come across this brand of milk before? It doesn't seem to be available on the market."
It was surely not sold on the market as Vincent had someone make it temporarily, lacking the familiar branding that usually graced.
Normally, Aiden would drink it without a second thought, savoring the thoughtfulness of his younger family members. But this time was different; he kept asking questions, which was not like his usual self.
Faced with Aiden's questions, Everly could only respond casually, "The manufacturer sent it to us to try. They wanted feedback on the taste."
Aiden found it even stranger. "What does the manufacturer have to do with us?"
If it was milk, shouldn't it be sent to restaurants or other places? Why send it to their company?
Everly, quick on her feet, crafted a swift response. "The manufacturer is suggesting we consider purchasing it as a special holiday treat for our employees. Grandpa, you know how hard it is to do business these days. They won't miss any opportunity."
Aiden thought about it and found it reasonable. He took the bottle and was about to drink it...
Everly watched intently, feeling a surge of joy. She had finally tricked Aiden into drinking it. The rest was up to Vincent. If the plan went smoothly, she might really be able to be with Malcolm in the future without anyone disturbing them.
