Chapter 418 Tensions Running High

"Although we can't do much, we can win with numbers. I know you're good at fighting, but I wouldn't have brought just a few people." He was obviously prepared. He had already heard about Reese's capabilities from his mother last time.

Reese deliberately sneered and said, "Well, sorry about that. You gathered all these people for nothing."

Alexander frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, I'll go with you."

She never intended to avoid Alexander. She always faced problems head-on and never ran away whether she wanted to see Alexander depended on her mood.

Alexander was a bit angry, clenching his fists tightly. It turned out Reese was toying with him.

"But I have one condition." She said.

Reese's voice pulled Alexander's thoughts back. His eyes darkened. "What condition?"

"Let my colleague go back first. She has nothing to do with this."

Sophia suddenly shouted, "No, I'm not leaving. Reese, I'm staying with you."

She was afraid this person would hurt Reese. It was clear he wasn't a good person, and Reese had a fiery temper. What if she provoked him?

Reese said to Sophia, "It's okay. It's broad daylight; what could he do to me? You should go back first and call me when you get there."

"No way, what if he tries to hurt you?"

The last kidnapping incident had left her traumatized. These were all strong men, and even if Reese was formidable, she couldn't rule out the possibility of them setting her up.

"Go back now." Reese was getting a bit impatient.

Although Sophia usually had a decent relationship with Reese, she still felt uneasy when Reese got angry.

Sophia lowered her head, feeling a bit aggrieved. "Alright, but be careful."

After saying that, Sophia mustered the courage to warn Alexander, "She's Mr. Flynn's wife. Mr. Flynn values her highly. If she loses even a hair, you're done for."

Alexander sneered.

Seeing that Alexander ignored her, Sophia didn't dare say anything more. It was clear he wasn't a good person.

After watching Sophia's figure gradually disappear, Reese turned coldly to Alexander.

"Let's go. If we need to talk, shouldn't it be somewhere with a better environment?"

"Suit yourself."

Reese chose the most expensive restaurant in the area and ordered all the priciest dishes.

Alexander sat across from Reese, his eyes scrutinizing her. He had to admit that Reese was indeed attractive. She was exceptional, not just comparable to other beautiful women. Her aloof demeanor made her seem unapproachable.

But at first glance, she was indeed not simple. With his extensive experience, Alexander could tell Reese was not an ordinary girl. Her eyes held a calm composure, a trait not everyone possessed.

Alexander sat across from Reese, maintaining a polite but distant demeanor, as if dealing with a work colleague.

"Order whatever you like."

Reese called the waiter and ordered all the restaurant's specialties, the most expensive ones.

The waiter kindly suggested, "Miss, you might not be able to finish all this with just two people."

"It's fine. Someone else is paying, don't worry about it."

Given that Alexander had so many people guarding her outside, she was determined to make him spend more money.

Seeing Reese's insistence, the waiter didn't say anything more. "Alright."

After ordering, Reese took a sip of coffee, facing Alexander without a hint of restraint. To her, Alexander was just a stranger, evoking no sense of familiarity. She knew very well that the Hawthorne family members all disliked her.

Since that was the case, why should she be polite?

Alexander scrutinized Reese. Her features did resemble their father, confirming she was indeed a Hawthorne. But she hadn't returned for so many years, and now the Hawthorne family's situation couldn't accommodate an outsider, which would only create more chaos.

Moreover, Reese was married to Malcolm, making it even more unacceptable. With so many families involved, it was hard to predict the outcome.

He spoke directly, "You should be aware of the Hawthorne family's situation. I don't know what you're thinking, but given your current life, it seems unnecessary for you to get involved with the Hawthorne family. The Flynn Group has always been stable. Why meddle with the Hawthorne family?"

Seeing Alexander's straightforwardness, Reese, who also disliked indirect communication, responded bluntly, "Since you put it that way, I'll be direct, too. I don't want anything from your family. I don't care about the Hawthorne family's resources. I am a resource myself."

If Reese was telling the truth, Alexander was even more puzzled.

"In that case, why oppose the Hawthorne family and compete with me for the project? You guys aren't even good at it."

Reese mocked and said, "Not being good at it is one thing, but wanting it is another. Can't lose dignity, can we?"

After all, given how far the Hawthorne family had gone, if she didn't hold her ground, it would be a loss of dignity.

Alexander found it hard to believe, even thinking Reese's attitude was overly arrogant.

"So you're saying, because of your dignity, the Hawthorne family is in trouble?"

He wanted to get angry but hesitated because Reese was a woman and somewhat related to him. If it were a man, his fist would have landed on their face by now.

However, he didn't realize that even if he did make a move, Reese wouldn't be afraid of him.

Reese didn't hold back in front of Alexander and told him directly, "If it weren't for you guys coming to me, I wouldn't want anything to do with the Hawthorne family. Your family, young and old, even a woman, all came to me. Who's really seeking trouble here?"

From the beginning, it was the Hawthorne family who approached her. She hadn't even started, and they were already on the defensive, as if she'd rob them of their wealth at the slightest chance.

However, the Hawthorne family didn't know that Reese never aimed for anyone's wealth. She just wanted to know who her family was. But clearly, her family wasn't that great. If she'd known the Hawthornes were like this, she would have preferred never knowing.

Alexander, however, didn't understand Reese's thoughts. Both the Hawthorne and Flynn families were business dynasties, prioritizing interests over emotions. If one could bring benefits, one might be treated well. If not, one's fate wouldn't be good.

Alexander leaned back in his chair, fingers interlocked, a complex look in his eyes.

"So what exactly do you want to do?"
