Chapter 589 Don't Talk Nonsense
"Isn't this just unreasonable?" Alyssa, usually the queen of comebacks, was totally stumped by what Sebastian just said.
Reese and Malcolm were just chillin', finding the whole thing hilarious.
Sebastian chuckled, "Unreasonable? You gotta remember, you are the one who said if I couldn't find a wife, you'd marry me. Plus, I can teach you how to play games."
Alyssa's eyes sparkled at the mention of games.
But as for Sebastian...
Alyssa gave him a once-over, full of sass. "Not to be rude, but I think I'd be the one teaching you."
Sebastian pointed outside, "Wanna settle this with a match?"
"Sure... If you lose, forget what I said before. You can marry whoever you want." Alyssa's competitive side flared up. When it came to games, she was sure she could wipe the floor with Sebastian.
Sebastian, all young and cocky, jumped at the challenge. "Alright, let's do this. But if you lose..."
"If I lose, I'll stick to my word and marry you, unless you back out. No take-backs."
"Good, you better remember that. Reese and Malcolm heard it, they can back me up."
Sebastian was brimming with confidence.
Reese chimed in, "Sebastian, with her skills, you might wanna rethink this."
Sebastian winked at Reese, all sly-like. "Chill, Reese. I'm gonna win and get even closer to her."
"Okay, it's your call." Reese never liked pushing people when it came to relationships.
Alyssa quickly added, "Reese, there's nothing between us. We're just friends."
"Friends for now, but who knows what the future holds," Sebastian said, looking away all casual.
Alyssa shot him a glare, "Alright, let's go and have this match."
Sebastian turned to Reese, "Reese, we're heading out."
Reese agreed, "Okay, stay safe."
As they were about to leave, Malcolm grumbled, "Is Reese the only one you care about now?"
Alyssa paused, then turned back with an awkward smile. "Malcolm, I'm heading out now."
Only then did Malcolm chill out. "Alright, be careful."
As Alyssa opened the hospital room door, she muttered, "What's his deal lately? He never used to be this annoying, and now he's even getting jealous."
With that, the door closed.
Reese couldn't help but laugh and teased Malcolm, "Yeah, why so jealous now?"
Malcolm defended himself, "Jealous? Nah, just teaching her some respect."
Reese clearly didn't buy it but let it slide.
After leaving the hospital, Alyssa asked Sebastian straight up, "Where we doing this?"
Sebastian looked around. "No quiet spots here, it'll mess with my game. How about your studio?"
He'd never seen Alyssa's studio and was super curious about what kind of setup a free-spirited girl like her would have.
Alyssa always had that carefree, rebellious vibe, doing her own thing and taking the road less traveled.
In that way, he felt they were kinda alike. He also believed in living life to the fullest.
Alyssa didn't mind when Sebastian wanted to check out her studio.
She hadn't been there in a few days and wanted to make sure her crew wasn't slacking off.
"Alright, the studio's pretty chill."
"Cool."
They drove straight to Alyssa's studio. Sebastian didn't expect much, given Alyssa's privileged background and her laid-back attitude towards work.
But to his surprise, the place was super organized.
Sebastian pointed at the employees grinding away. "How much you paying them?"
Alyssa plopped down at her desk and took a sip from her cup. "Can you not be so basic? It varies. Everyone earns based on their skills and tips, but we got a base salary. We also do regular training and analyze pro players' videos."
Sebastian knew Alyssa used to be a game streamer and wasn't exactly top-tier.
He didn't get that going from a so-so streamer to her current status in a breeze.
But with Alyssa's powerful background, setting up a studio wasn't a big deal, so he still had his doubts.
He leaned in and teased, "Did you just throw money at this?"
Alyssa didn't get mad. Instead, she shot back, "Mr. Hawthorne, your family's loaded, too, right? Why haven't they set up a studio or company for you? And as for why I started this studio, 'Cause I was inspired by Reese. You've seen Reese's speed; you can't get that good without putting in the time."
She had tried before and realized she couldn't match Reese's speed no matter how much she practiced.
At the mention of Reese, Sebastian's face swelled with pride, "Of course, you know whose sister she is."
Alyssa gave him a look, "Come on, what does that have to do with you? If Reese is so amazing, why do you, as her brother, only know how to race?"
Sebastian was taken aback. No one had ever talked to him like that before.
Feeling indignant, he argued, "It's my hobby. I'm not a slacker. Can you show me some respect? Don't forget, you're gonna marry me. You should be a bit more gentle with your future husband."
The employees in the studio kept doing their thing, used to their boss bringing people in for interviews.
But when they heard "husband," they couldn't hold back.
"Alyssa, is this your fiancé?"
"Alyssa, when did you start dating? Why didn't we know?"
"When's the wedding? We'll totally be there."
"Your husband... is so handsome."
Alyssa snapped, "Stop talking nonsense!"
