Chapter 549 Conscience Extinguished

Everly was shocked. The moment Aiden heard that the milk was specially bought for him by her, he drank it immediately without any resistance.

'Could it be that Grandpa forced himself to drink a sip just because I bought it, and he just couldn't bear to refuse me?' Eveyly thought.

Upon recollection, Everly realized that in all her years with the Flynn family, she had never once seen Aiden drink milk—he was strictly a coffee person. A pang of guilt swept over her; she had inadvertently put Aiden's life at risk.

She questioned Vincent, "Why didn't you make it clear to me? One sip of that milk had such a potent effect. What if Grandpa had downed half the bottle? His life could have been in jeopardy! You mentioned a mild reaction, not this severe outcome!"

Vincent laughed sinisterly, "So what do you want to do now? Do you still want to back out?"

"Yes, I want out. I'm done!" Only now did Everly realize that she had fallen into Vincent's trap, and everything he uttered was a lie. With relief flooding her, she acknowledged that Aiden had only taken a sip. Had he consumed half a bottle, the repercussions would have been incomprehensible.

Vincent, however, was not afraid at all and said confidently over the phone, "Fine, you can back out now, but think about it. Grandpa will definitely find out that you brought this bottle of milk. No matter how much he drank, the milk was brought by you. It doesn't matter how much he drank. If Malcolm finds out, do you think he will ever forgive you?"

Fuming with anger, Everly struggled to contain her boiling emotions. Through gritted teeth, she unleashed a curse on Vincent, "Vincent, you are heartless!"

"How different are you from me? You knew that the milk would make Grandpa sick, but you still delivered it. Now we are in this together. If you back out, I'll tell Malcolm everything you did. Then we'll see who gets in trouble first, you or me!" Vincent dropped the pretense with Everly. She was trapped, with no way to escape this situation.

Everly felt a surge of anger towards Vincent. "You planned this from the start, didn't you? You wanted to ensnare me, bind me to you, and use me like a pawn!"

"What else can I do? You are so obsessed with love that you can't extricate yourself. Malcolm doesn't love you; he only loves Reese. So instead of fighting for a love you can't get, you should focus on making money. Men will betray you, but money won't!" Vincent remarked as if he was a considerate brother to Everly. But if Everly could let go of Malcolm, she wouldn't have ended up like this.

Everly gritted her teeth, declaring, "I won't be complicit with you."

Vincent wasn't afraid of Everly betraying him at this point. "Fine, you can back out, but don't blame me for exposing what you did. Malcolm might even turn you in, and you'll end up in jail for three to five years. By the time you get out, Malcolm and Reese might already have kids," he uttered.

"You..."

"Cut the crap. Do as I say. Call Malcolm. Tell him that Grandpa had a heart attack and is in critical condition, and he needs to come quickly!" Vincent suddenly roared, scaring Everly into a slight tremble.

Feeling trapped, Everly saw no other option but to comply with Vincent's demands. If Malcolm ever discovered her true color, their relationship would truly be shattered. She disconnected Vincent's call and nervously called Malcolm.

Malcolm answered quickly, his voice indifferent. "What's up?"

Everly trembled as she spoke, "Malcolm, you need to come to the hospital quickly. Grandpa has been taken to the operating room, and we don't know if he can make it."

Malcolm frowned, his voice suddenly rising. "What happened to Grandpa?"

"Grandpa had a heart attack and is in critical condition at the hospital. Malcolm, you need to hurry," Everly repeated to make event clear.

Malcolm wasted no time in responding. Aiden's well-being was paramount, and he had instructed Jason to look after Aiden and ensure his safety. However, events were unfolding rapidly.

"Okay, I'm on my way," Malcolm said as he ended the call.

He then turned to Reese, who lay in the hospital bed, remarking, "Honey, something happened with Grandpa. I have to go over there. Everly said Grandpa's life is in danger, but I'm not sure if it's true."

He didn't know the situation over there yet, but Everly wouldn't dare joke about Aiden's life.

Reese sensed a subtle shift in the atmosphere but chose to remain silent, reluctant to voice her concerns for fear of influencing Malcolm's decision-making.

"Go ahead. I'm fine here. Even if Vincent wants to make a move, he wouldn't choose now," Reese urged.

Malcolm was too anxious to think about other issues. Holding Reese's hand tightly, he promised, "I'll be back as soon as possible."

"Okay, you can also arrange for people to stay here. If they stay too long, Vincent might notice."

This was a critical moment, a narrow window of opportunity that might not present itself again. Vincent's cunning nature suggested that this plan was intricately designed by him. When dealing with such individuals, any hint of carelessness could spell disaster. Swift and resolute action was imperative.

Even though the words remained unspoken between Malcolm and Reese, their intuition whispered that Vincent was the mastermind. However, the details would need to be investigated later on.

Even after Malcolm departed, he discreetly stationed individuals within the hospital to safeguard Reese in case of any unforeseen danger. Despite Reese's proficiency in martial arts, Malcolm couldn't shake off his concern. She was not just his wife; she was his most cherished partner. The mere thought of any harm befalling her left him with a lingering unease. After all, how could anyone ever compensate him for losing someone so irreplaceable?

Malcolm quickly arrived at Aiden's place, and Everly, waiting anxiously at the operating room door, was worried and fearful. She was afraid that if something really happened to Aiden, she wouldn't be able to escape.

The actions Everly took today would eventually come to light, and when Malcolm uncovered the truth, there would be nowhere left for her to hide. Vincent's sinister plan aimed to pin the entire blame on her, forcing her to bear the brunt of the accusations for any harm that befell Aiden.

Malcolm walked up with a fierce stride and grabbed Everly's wrist, his eyes filled with malice. "What the hell happened? How did Grandpa end up in the operating room?"

"Malcolm... you, you need to calm down. I... I don't know either." Everly paled in fear at Malcolm's current demeanor. His anger was a force few could withstand.

How could Malcolm believe Everly? He had previously told Jason to watch out for her, but still, Grandpa ended up in trouble.
