Chapter 165 Watch Your Mouth

Reese clapped her hands after finishing her shrimp, signaling she was ready to leave. Malcolm shifted to the side, his long legs blocking the path behind her chair.

A faint smile played across his striking features, and when he grinned, he looked like a cunning old fox, with his eyebrows slightly arched.

"Honey, have some more," he said.

Reese sensed there was more to his words, and although he might not have a say in her personal affairs, his clear eyes narrowed, sparking with icy resolve.

"You want to interrogate me?"

"I'm just curious about some friends of my wife. That Jason we just saw, what does he do for a living?"

Malcolm had seen enough to know that Jason walked with a lighter step than most, his build lean and disciplined, likely someone with training. Despite a friendly facade, he detected a certain deadly seriousness in those eyes. How did Reese end up friends with someone like that?

More importantly, the way that Jason looked at his wife... ah, tinged with affection—a pining sort of love.

Reese looked down at him, then leaned forward slightly, her pale fingertips tugging at his tie, pulling him closer.

They were inches apart, and she could even feel the faint scent of tobacco in his breath. It was oddly comforting rather than off-putting. But now wasn't the time to think about that.

"Even if I don't tell you, you'll find out anyway, won't you?"

A sharp edge glinted in Reese's eyes before she released him, turning to leave the restaurant with effortless grace.

Malcolm's lips curled into a smirk as he watched her go, a sly glint in his eyes. His wife was indeed no ordinary woman.

He made a call to Justin as he leaned against the table.

"Look up this guy Jason for me."

Justin couldn't help but gossip. "Mr. Flynn, is that the guy Reese went out with? So, she actually met up with a guy!"

Malcolm's voice was resigned but carried a warning. "One more useless comment and you can kiss this month's paycheck goodbye."

"I'm on it, I'll check right away!" Justin snapped his mouth shut and scurried off.

Reese stepped out of the restaurant and soon received Jason's message, “Your husband seems to have a pretty strong sense of ownership, maybe even too jealous for his own good.”

Reese shot back a reply. “None of your business.”

Jason chuckled at Reese's careless words, then stowed away his phone.

As long as she was happy, that was all that mattered.

For over two decades, Reese hadn't known a single day of ease. If Malcolm could genuinely offer her the love she yearned for, then he deserved to play the role of her guardian.

"Reese."

She was about to get back to the office in her car when a voice called out from behind. But the tone...

Without hesitating, Reese unlocked her car and swung open the door.

Dahlia noticed Reese trying to dodge her and quickly let go of the man next to her to approach.

"Reese, why the rush to get away when you see me? What, are you scared of me?"

A chill flashed through Reese's composed gaze as she cast a dismissive glance at Dahlia.

"Who's afraid of whom between us? Don't act like you don't know already."

Dahlia's expression soured momentarily but quickly bounced back to smugness, drawing the man beside her closer.

"Meet Silva, my boyfriend."

Reese frowned. Silva... That name sounded eerily familiar.

Then it dawned on her—wasn't that the same excuse Kenneth had fabricated to set her up in an arranged marriage?

It was said Dahlia was engaged to a young Morris family heir, but Reese had never even met the guy. Before long, Dahlia had moved on to some other big shot.

It all circled back.

With a gleam in her bright eyes and a mischievous arch of her perfectly shaped brows, Reese's tone was rich with implication. "Got a new boyfriend again?"

Dahlia visibly tensed up at the comment.

"Silva just got back from abroad. He's always been my boyfriend, Reese, so don't start spreading rumors. And talking about changing boyfriends, no one can compare with you. Looking to change husbands already? That guy from the restaurant just now was your date today, right? Does Malcolm know?"

Her words started rolling with rising excitement.

"Don't worry, Reese, I'll definitely keep it a secret from Malcolm. After all, it would be quite the laugh if word got out that Malcolm Flynn's wife was caught cheating."

Though she claimed she'd keep Reese's secret, her voice was loud enough for anyone to overhear, as if she was trying to make her statement public.

Little did Dahlia know that her petty manipulations were child's play to Reese. In the art of social warfare, Reese was the undisputed master—was Dahlia even in her league?

Reese didn't bother giving Dahlia another look but focused her attention on Silva. His heir-like demeanor made it clear he probably held his own in the dating scene.

He seemed like a good match for Dahlia.

For Silva, this was his first encounter with Reese, and he found himself drawn to her refreshing aura. The stunning beauty moved with a casual grace that was a far cry from Dahlia's pampered air.

Silva had seen his fair share of heiresses like Dahlia. They were a dime a dozen, but Reese—she was one in a million.

When he first laid eyes on her, Silva felt his breath catch in his throat; she was stunningly beautiful.

Dahlia waited for Silva to break the silence, but when he didn't respond for the longest time, she turned her head only to find him completely enamored with Reese.

Feeling her pride wounded, she slapped his back in frustration.

"Silva."

He snapped out of his trance and extended his hand towards Reese.

"Hi, I'm Silva."

Reese wouldn't even shake his hand—a straight-up cold shoulder. "Enough showboating, make yourself scarce," she said sharply to Dahlia.

Dahlia knew Reese was always blunt and unforgiving with her words, but this lack of basic courtesy was something else. Dahlia had wanted to flaunt Silva in front of Reese, but instead, Reese couldn't have cared less and seemed annoyed by Dahlia's presence.

A surge of anger rose in Dahlia's chest, and she sneered, "Silva's greeting you; the least you could do is say a word or two before leaving. Otherwise, if Malcolm heard about you hanging around with questionable men behind his back, he might..."

Before Dahlia could finish her taunt, Reese's gaze turned ice-cold and a terrifying seriousness appeared in her eyes.
