Chapter 566 Reverse Operation

Sofia strolled up with a grin and said, "Reese, finally catching up with you! It's gonna be a nightmare trying to pin you down in the future."

Reese shot back with a chill response.

"Just been swamped lately, but it should chill out soon. How's work treating you?"

Sofia replied, "Same old grind, but the gig you hooked me up with pays way better than the other places."

Reese nodded, "That's cool. How's your grandma holding up?"

Sofia froze for a sec.

She hesitated, then said, "She's been doing a lot better lately, thanks for asking."

Reese's face got all complicated. She knew Sofia's grandma wasn't doing great, but she let it slide.

Once inside, they ordered their usual, and nothing much happened.

Halfway through the meal, Reese clutched her stomach, wincing.

"My stomach's killing me. Can you come with me to the restroom?"

Sofia, worried, asked, "What's up? Do you need to hit the hospital?"

Reese shook her head, "Nah, I think it's just my stomach acting up 'cause I haven't had this in a while. Just need to hit the restroom."

Sofia got up and helped Reese to the restroom.

Inside, Reese said, "I'm rocking these overalls today. Can you help me out? I messed up my hand a few days ago, and it's a pain."

Sofia paused, then nodded. "Sure thing."

Inside, Sofia pointed to her phone, and Reese handed over her own.

Sofia started typing on Reese's phone, and Reese casually said, "Yeah, right there, a bit lower. There's a button. Sorry, I was in a rush this morning and just grabbed whatever."

Sofia said, "No worries. I wear these sometimes too. They look cool but are a hassle."

Sofia finished typing and handed the phone back to Reese.

After reading it, Reese nodded thoughtfully. It confirmed her hunch that the extra cash Sofia had was from Nolan.

Nolan was trying to use Sofia to set up Reese. Whether it worked or not, he'd come out clean.

Reese knew Nolan's game.

She'd dodged his traps twice before; otherwise, Sofia might've been in deep trouble by now.

Nolan was the type to ditch people once they were no longer useful. Given Sofia's close ties with Reese, he wouldn't keep such a risk around.

Luckily, Sofia wasn't dumb enough to keep secrets from Reese. If she'd gone along with Nolan's plan, she knew it wouldn't end well for her.

Reese gave Sofia an OK sign, then handed her a pill, pointing to her own mouth.

Sofia got the hint that Reese was setting a trap.

She'd thought it over and decided she couldn't let Nolan control her anymore.

Otherwise, she knew she'd end up as Nolan's pawn, just like others before her. Once she was no longer useful, she'd be done for.

Now it was all about their teamwork to fool Nolan. Reese, having been in the game, knew Nolan's tricks well.

But the situation was tight, and she couldn't promise a flawless plan. She messaged Calvin, giving him a rough outline and asking him to loop in the cops.

The clock was ticking, and they had to move fast to buy some time.

Reese suddenly chilled out and said, "Thanks, Sofia. Without you, I'd be lost."

Sofia grinned, "No biggie. With your hand messed up, you should stick to simpler clothes."

After they left the restroom, Reese said, "I'll check if we need more food. I think we might be short."

Sofia nodded, "Sure, I'm not fussy. Order whatever."

"Cool." Reese smiled and headed to the counter.

Sofia quickly slipped the pill into Reese's cup. The pill would knock Reese out but wouldn't kill her. According to Nolan's plan, she was supposed to take the unconscious Reese to a cliff and toss her off.

But Sofia knew if she followed Nolan's plan, she'd get busted by the cops and end up as Nolan's fall guy.

The surveillance cameras would show her and Reese together, making her look guilty as hell.

To protect herself and her grandma, she had to fight back. Otherwise, her life would be wrecked.

Reese went to the counter to order, playing it cool.

She was a pro at deception, easily fooling Nolan's spies.

She ordered food on purpose to give Sofia a chance to drug her. If Sofia didn't complete her initial task, Nolan wouldn't let her off easy.

She had to act first. If Nolan ended up behind bars, she'd be free. Her grandma's illness could be dealt with later.

Depending on Nolan for cash meant doing endless dirty work for him.

When Reese came back, Sofia's face was calm, her heart steady.

Reese beamed, "I ordered some beef. Remember how much you loved it in college?"

Sofia said, "Yeah, we used to rush to the cafeteria for beef after class. I always got extra and shared with you."

Sofia reminisced about their college days, feeling nostalgic.

She never imagined life could get so twisted. If she hadn't taken Nolan's money back then, none of this would have happened.

But it wasn't too late.

As long as she was willing to turn back now, everything could still be fixed.

They chatted about old times, and Sofia watched Reese take the pill.

Now, they just had to wait for it to kick in.

Sofia didn't know what the pill was, but she trusted Reese's prep.

Soon, Reese started rubbing her head, saying, "I feel a bit dizzy."

Sofia quickly supported her and asked, "Reese, you okay? Feeling unwell?"

"Just a bit dizzy. Help me back. Maybe I didn't sleep well last night."

"Okay, sit here. I'll go pay the bill." Sofia quickly paid and helped Reese out. As soon as they stepped outside, they were pulled into a car.

The two guys tailing Sofia sensed something was off and tried to alert Nolan, but Calvin and Louis took them down before they could act.

In the car, Reese quickly woke up, while Sofia was still confused. Reese gestured for Sofia to hand over her phone.

Sofia complied.

Reese handed it to Ryan, who quickly inserted a chip into Sofia's phone and said, "You can talk now."

Sofia was shocked. "We can talk now? Nolan can't hear us anymore?"
