Chapter 523 Avenging My Sister
"No, I just feel more comfortable this way. Everhart might not say anything," Reese said.
Everhart had dirt on Nolan, but his plans were unclear.
She was curious about Everhart's motives. Why keep such important info to himself? It didn't help him. Nolan wouldn't hesitate to act against him.
Everhart didn't have the power to use this secret against Nolan. His best bet was to tell someone who could take Nolan down, ensuring his own safety. His current approach seemed self-destructive.
Seeing Reese so determined, Malcolm had no choice but to agree.
"I'll handle the company's stuff for you," he offered.
Malcolm always wanted to help Reese. He wished she had a less stressful life, managing a regular company, enjoying downtime, and not constantly being on edge.
"No need, you don't have to do it for me. If it comes to that, I'll find someone to help. Your company is busy too," Reese said, not wanting to burden Malcolm.
In marriage, mutual understanding was key. Without it, she doubted they could last. Distrust would eventually break them.
After resolving their issues, they headed back to the Flynn family, exhausted from the day's events.
Reconnecting with Reese made Sebastian happy, seeing their relationship improve. But he couldn't figure out who had been chasing her. He sensed they were serious threats but didn't want to bother Reese with questions.
Reese was special to Sebastian, his dear sister. He felt he had to protect her.
So, he asked his friends to find out who was after Reese. When he learned it was Nolan's people, he gathered a group and confronted Nolan.
Just as Reese was about to sleep, she got word that Sebastian had caused trouble. The police station's call left her almost speechless.
Malcolm, still half-asleep, saw Reese getting dressed and immediately woke up. "What's wrong, honey?"
"That idiot Sebastian got into it with Nolan's people and ended up at the police station. They want me to go over."
Reese regretted asking Sebastian for help. If the Hawthorne family found out, it would be a mess.
Malcolm reassured her, "He must have looked into your situation. Nolan made a big scene today. With all those cars chasing you, Sebastian, being young and curious, and seeing you as his admired sister, of course, he would look into it."
Reese knew Sebastian was the most naive in the Hawthorne family. He acted on impulse, probably thinking she was being bullied and reacting out of innocence.
"You know I don't need them to do this. It just causes unnecessary trouble for me," Reese stressed.
Reese liked to keep her affairs private, sometimes even excluding Malcolm. Sebastian, being just a relative, didn't share a deep emotional bond with her, unlike the rest of the Hawthorne family.
Malcolm got dressed. "Let's not talk about it now. Let's go see what's going on. It's not our first run-in with Nolan."
Reese wasn't scared of Nolan; she was just exhausted from the past few days. She thought she could finally rest, but now Sebastian had stirred up trouble again.
They bumped into Alyssa, who had just come home, keys jingling. "Malcolm, Reese, where are you going at this hour?" she asked.
Malcolm shot back, "I should ask why you're coming home so late. It's dangerous for a girl to be out now. What if something happened? How would I explain it to Grandpa?"
"I wasn't out having fun. I had interviews and someone wanted to sign with my studio, so I was busy until now," Alyssa explained.
Malcolm nodded. "Alright, let's go. Since you're back, give us a ride."
"Sure, where to?"
"The police station," Malcolm said, already pulling Alyssa towards the car.
Alyssa was puzzled. "Why the police station? Did someone get into trouble?"
Reese noticed Alyssa's sharpness since starting her studio. Her friend's intuition was spot on more often than not.
Malcolm stayed silent, and Alyssa quickly figured it out, feeling proud. "Did I guess right?" she asked.
Malcolm put his arm around Alyssa's shoulder and shoved her into the car. "Stop talking and drive."
Alyssa's curiosity was piqued. She wondered who could have prompted both Reese and Malcolm to visit the police station at midnight.
At the police station, Reese quickly walked in and saw Sebastian, bruised and injured.
Seeing Reese, Sebastian stood up excitedly. "Reese..."
Reese approached, her eyes cold, and asked, "Got nothing better to do?"
Sebastian, scolded like a child, immediately lowered his head. "No, I'm usually very busy."
"If you're busy, why did you go looking for trouble?" Reese's frustration bubbled up. She knew she had to vent before she ended up hitting Sebastian. He had no idea about Nolan's persona or the circumstances and boldly stepped into Nolan's domain.
Luckily, nothing major happened. If he had been seriously injured, Reese would feel guilty and wouldn't know how to explain it to the Hawthorne family.
Sebastian, covering his head from Reese's scolding, feared she might actually hit him. Despite the threat, he summoned the courage to defend himself. If it wasn't his fault, he wouldn't take the blame.
"Reese, I wasn't looking for trouble. They were bothering you, so I wanted to trouble them. Who knew they'd be so tough and have so many guys? The few buddies I brought were no match for them," he said.
Reese rolled her eyes. It was obvious.
