Chapter 32 Is the Project More Important Than My Wife?
Reese raised an eyebrow, her tone chill. "That's it?"
Everly smirked at her cocky attitude.
"Reese, don't think this is simple. Susan told me you're quick with data, but this ain't your usual odd job. Screw this up, and getting fired will be the least of your worries."
Reese narrowed her eyes, but there wasn't a hint of fear. She calmly held out her hand.
"Hand over the contract."
Reese thought, 'It's just a project, right?'
Everly sneered, thinking, ‘If the contract is so easy, why do I need to send her?
But sending Reese wasn't just about the contract; it was about getting rid of her for good. No matter how smooth Reese was, if she botched this project or pissed off the partner, even Malcolm couldn't save her.
Everly didn't hesitate and handed the contract to Reese.
"Seven tonight, Tranquil Haven Hotel. Go talk to him."
"Got it." Reese took the contract and walked out.
Everly watched her leave, a smug grin on her face. ‘After tonight, let's see how cocky you are.’
Did she really think the contract was a walk in the park?
Reese didn't sweat the contract at all. She'd closed billion-dollar deals before; this small project was nothing. As long as the other party was serious, it was a breeze. If they were just playing games, not even Malcolm could help.
When she got to Tranquil Haven Hotel, she immediately spotted a guy in his forties with a few strands of hair, overweight, especially his belly, which jiggled as he walked.
Her gut told her this wasn't gonna be easy.
She walked up and greeted him politely. "Mr. Woods, I'm Reese from the Flynn Group. Our director sent me to sign the contract with you."
Mack Woods squinted his beady eyes and gave Reese a once-over, clearly unimpressed.
Reese could tell he wasn't thrilled with her appearance, but she didn't care. That was the plan—to avoid any unwanted attention.
But she underestimated just how sleazy this guy was.
Things started off smooth. Reese thought this was gonna be a breeze and kept it professional. Mack was a bit surprised, thinking she was just some clueless newbie at the begining. However, she knew her stuff.
Suddenly, Mack got a little too interested and started getting creepy.
"Ms. Brooks, your job must be tough. Look at these hands, so delicate."
As he spoke, Mack tried to touch Reese's hand, but she dodged.
Considering the deal Everly handed her was crucial for the company, she had to close it or face endless nagging.
Reese dodged without a word, but her eyes started to show a sharp edge.
"If there's no problem, please sign the contract quickly."
But Mack didn't catch on to Reese's impatience, thinking she was just playing hard to get.
"Ms. Brooks, what's the rush? I wasn't even gonna sign this project originally. But for you... Since I'm being so accommodating, shouldn't you repay me a bit?"
As he spoke, Mack moved around the table and sat next to Reese, his hand reaching for her shoulder.
That crossed the line for Reese. Her eyes turned icy, and she twisted Mack's wrist, making him scream in the lobby.
Mack's face went pale, cold sweat dripping from his forehead in pain.
"You... let go of me, you bitch. It's your honor that I fancy you, and you dare to hurt me!"
From the moment Reese acted, her patience was gone. Her sharp eyes showed a killing intent that made Mack feel a twinge of fear.
How could an ordinary girl have such a look in her eyes?
She scoffed disdainfully. "Who'd want a greasy slob like you? Get a grip. If you dare touch me, you better be ready for the fallout!"
Even Malcolm hadn't laid a hand on her, let alone this disgusting creep. Just looking at his greasy face was enough to make her sick.
The commotion drew a crowd of onlookers.
Mack, known for his vanity, couldn't handle being restrained by a woman. He started cursing without any regard.
"You crazy woman, let go of me! If I tell Mr. Flynn, you'll be fired. Look at yourself, so ugly. If it weren't for your good figure, I'd be disgusted just seeing you."
Reese sneered, "Oh yeah? If you find me disgusting, maybe Mr. Woods doesn't need these eyes anymore."
She grabbed a dessert knife and fork from the table, flipping them with lightning speed and aiming them at Mack's eyes. Mack froze in fear, and the crowd gasped.
Just as the knife and fork were about to pierce Mack's pupils, Reese stopped, holding the utensils inches from his face.
Even so, Mack was so scared his legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground in a mess.
Reese scoffed contemptuously. "You don't even have the guts, yet you dare to harass women."
At that moment, Mack's assistant came down from upstairs after arranging the room and saw Mack on the ground, pale with fear. He quickly approached.
"Mr. Woods, what happened to you?"
Seeing someone finally come to his side, Mack felt a bit safer.
There was still fear in his eyes as he pointed at Reese.
"That... that woman, call Mr. Flynn immediately!"
The assistant didn't know what had happened but had to follow Mack's orders.
Malcolm was still in a meeting when Justin rushed in.
"Mr. Flynn, Reese is in trouble."
Malcolm frowned, his sharp gaze sweeping over the curious shareholders, making them lower their heads immediately.
"So, about this project, you..."
He wheeled himself over, his narrow eyes slightly squinting, a dangerous aura flashing across his handsome face.
"Come with me."
Justin nodded, "Yes, sir."
At the door of the conference room, Malcolm asked, "What happened?"
"Reese went to discuss the contract, but she got into a fight with Mr. Woods and even hit him."
Malcolm's throat tightened, a deep darkness flashing in his narrow eyes.
"Who sent her? Isn't this Everly's doing?"
"It seems Reese went out during the day, which made Miss Flynn unhappy. When Reese came back, Miss Flynn sent her to deliver the documents and sign the contract."
Malcolm was furious. "She knew Mack was a lecherous scoundrel and still sent Reese."
Justin rarely saw Malcolm so angry. The air around him seemed to thin, and he couldn't help but shiver.
"So, Mr. Flynn, what should we do now?"
"Let's go there."
Justin glanced worriedly at the conference room. "Mr. Flynn, but the meeting..."
"Dismiss the meeting. Is the project more important than my wife?"
Justin was shocked by his words.
What happened to Malcolm? Why was he treating Reese better and better? Was it because she was so different that he was getting used to her?
He didn't dare to disobey his boss's orders and went in to inform the shareholders.
The two of them headed to the hotel across the street. As soon as they entered the lobby, they heard Mack shouting at Reese.
"You bitch, just wait. I'll make sure you can't stay here!"
Reese sneered disdainfully, not afraid of his threats, holding her head high.
"Then I'll wait and see who can't stay here first."
Mack squinted his eyes, his face bruised and swollen, looking particularly miserable, but his voice was louder than anyone else's.
"Stop pretending. There’s no one backing you. No one has ever dared to talk to me like this. You’ll definitely regret it."
"Mr. Woods, such big talk, huh? It's the first time I've seen it."
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the lobby dropped sharply, accompanied by the sound of footsteps.
