Chapter 384 Many Identities
Malcolm flicked his finger against the teacup in front of him. "Grandpa, you know all about this, don't you?"
The reports were clear, not leaving anything up for speculation or misinterpretation.
Everly didn't speak up this time, but she was still very dissatisfied in her heart. Reese's luck was really good. In the beginning, she was just a clueless girl from the countryside. In just a short time, various mysterious identities were exposed.
She thought it would end there, but now it was even better. She was now connected to the Hawthorne family, which was on par with the Flynn family, especially the two sons of the Hawthorne family. Now, the Hawthorne Group was developing better and better. Apart from Sebastian, with his extravagant lifestyle, the Hawthorne family members were all elites.
Now, Everly couldn't compare to Reese, the Hawthorne family's heiress.
Grandpa Flynn naturally prioritized interests in everything, as is the nature of everyone in the business world.
"Since fate has given you such good luck, you should make the most of it. Why are you still at odds with your father, who is now in the hospital?" Grandpa Flynn said.
Reese has always been straightforward. Although she usually didn't want to argue with Grandpa Flynn about anything, given his age, this statement struck a chord in her heart, making her uncomfortable.
Without any reservations, she replied. "Grandpa, for others, this may be a huge gift, but for me, it's not. I do not want to be their daughter."
In fact, Reese was speaking the truth, but to Everly, it sounded like a boast.
Everly shrugged mockingly. "Being the daughter of the Hawthorne family is something many people can't even dream of. Why are you still disdainful? I don't know if you really don't want to or if you're just pretending. But one thing is true, I heard that Clara is not an easy person to deal with. She's very dominant. I guess if you really go back to the Hawthorne family, it won't be easy."
Alyssa could sense the bitterness in Everly's words. How could Reese not understand it?
"From what you're saying, you seem to really want to be the daughter of the Hawthorne family. Why don't you let Reese go talk to the Hawthorne family people to switch with you? With your sharp tongue, maybe you could even challenge Clara, "Alyssa pouted.
Everly clenched her fingers tightly on the table, glaring at Alyssa.
"Alyssa, is that what I meant?"
"Is that not what you meant? Then what did you mean? You used to envy Reese. Now that you know she's the daughter of the Hawthorne family, are you jealous? Do you think you can't compete with Reese anymore? If you have any self-awareness, do something good instead of acting like a bitter woman all the time."
"I think you need a lesson," Everly said, raising her hand as if to slap Alyssa.
"Both of you! Stop it!" Grandpa Flynn shouted sternly, tapping the table.
Malcolm stood up at this point and said a few words.
"Grandpa, you don't need to dwell on these matters. Whether Reese acknowledges the Hawthorne family or not has nothing to do with her being my wife. This kind of thing should still depend on her own decision. As outsiders, we shouldn't force it."
This statement implied that Mr. Flynn should stop meddling in Reese's affairs. Everyone present understood the implication behind Mr. Flynn's earlier words, but no one wanted to make it awkward by exposing it. He didn't want to embarrass anyone.
Malcolm held Reese's hand and pulled her up.
"Let's go upstairs."
Out of respect for Malcolm, Reese didn't want to say much about this matter, especially in conflict with Grandpa Flynn.
But sometimes, even if you don't want to provoke others, they might still come after you. Just as Reese and Malcolm were about to leave, a loud noise came from behind.
"You two, do you think you can just leave like that?" Grandpa Flynn asked.
Malcolm glanced at him. "Grandpa, if you have any more questions, ask me directly. Let Reese go rest, she's had a tiring day."
Malcolm's intention to protect Reese was crystal clear. The more he defended her, the more Grandpa Flynn felt that Reese was not suitable to stay in the Flynn family, as she could become a weakness for Malcolm. If someone wanted to threaten him in the future, they could target Reese directly to achieve their goals.
Malcolm was the hope of the Flynn family, and Grandpa Flynn couldn't let a woman ruin that.
However, Grandpa Flynn felt he needed to remind Malcolm of a few things so he wouldn't completely disregard them.
"Fine, let Reese go upstairs, you stay here."
"You go back to your room," Malcolm nodded and said to Reese.
"But are you okay here?" Reese asked, seeing Grandpa Flynn looking angry.
"It's fine, I can handle it." Malcolm winked playfully at Reese.
Upon hearing Malcolm's words, Grandpa Flynn cleared his throat.
Reese went upstairs directly, leaving Malcolm behind, sitting in a chair, ready to listen to Grandpa Flynn's lecture.
Grandpa Flynn cleared his throat. "Malcolm, what's going on with you? Do you really intend to continue like this with Reese? I'm not against you being with her, but you need to understand the importance of things. Even though we don't have any business dealings with the Hawthorne family, their connections are something we lack. It could be a good start for the company to expand into new areas in the future. Why are you encouraging Reese to do this?"
Malcolm stuck to his own beliefs. "Grandpa, I believe that even without the Hawthorne family's connections, I can expand into other areas. You probably don't know Reese's capabilities yet. I trust that by working with her, we can make the Flynn Group even bigger. Besides, when did the Flynn family ever fall so low as to need help from others?"
Everly muttered beside him. "They say having one more friend means having one more path. Even if we don't need the Hawthorne family now, who knows what the future holds? Shouldn't we be prepared? "
Malcolm gave Everly a cold glance, his tone filled with a warning. "Shut up!"
This time, Grandpa Flynn surprisingly agreed with Everly's words. "Everly is right. We can't predict the present and the future. You need to plan ahead. Even if Reese has the ability, can't we expand further? Isn't it better to join forces?"
"Grandpa, the Hawthorne family wanting her back is not for pure reasons. They want to gain benefits from her, but they don't realize that we might also use them."
Everyone had their thoughts. What was the point of this open or hidden struggle? It might be better to act as strangers and mind their own business.
If the Hawthorne family didn't genuinely want Reese back, it might be better to avoid having such family members.
"What do you know? Between partners, it's all about mutual use. Do you really expect sincerity?"
Grandpa Flynn now looked at Malcolm completely differently from before. Malcolm wouldn't have acted like this in the past. Why did he change so much after marrying Reese?
Malcolm's expression turned cold. "I disagree with that. This matter depends on Reese's willingness. Grandpa, you know her temperament. If she doesn't want to, no one can force her."
Grandpa Flynn didn't believe him at all and snorted. "Don't lie to me. You think I don't know? She listens to you the most now. If you persuade her a bit more, she will definitely agree."
Malcolm had no patience to continue arguing with Grandpa Flynn here because his stance wouldn't change. No matter what he said, it was all nonsense to him.
He simply stood up. "Grandpa, I advise you to give up this idea. The people of the Hawthorne family are not good. Even if we cooperate with them, who knows what trouble might arise in the future?"
With that, he walked upstairs.
"Malcolm, Malcolm."
No matter how many times Grandpa Flynn called out, Malcolm didn't stop, disappearing around the corner.
"That woman completely bewitched this boy," Grandpa Flynn sighed.
Everly deliberately approached Grandpa Flynn. "Grandpa, if this continues, who knows what the Flynn family will be in the future? We can't just sit and wait. We need to plan ahead. Before, we thought Reese was just an ordinary person, but now it seems her identity is not only diverse but also very complex. Who knows what else she's hiding from us?"
