Chapter 390 Causing Troubles for Us

Reese took a sip of coffee and nodded thoughtfully. "Well, she was right. Clara tried to stop me, and Sophia helped me, although her help didn't really make a difference."

But it's because she did it without expecting anything in return that her help became so precious.

There's a saying: Love me, love my dog. Especially for those who are good to Reese, Malcolm naturally would treat them better. After all these years in the company, he had a clear view. Genuine people toward Reese were rare, and most were just waiting to see her fail and make a fool of herself.

That's how the workplace was. Fortunately, Reese wasn't weak. She never expected to make true friends in such a hypocritical environment.

After pondering for a moment, Malcolm said to Reese. "How about I promote Sophia or something else as a token of gratitude for her genuine support toward you?"

"Just give her a raise. If you promote her, those women in the office will start gossiping again."

She really disliked those who did nothing productive but spent their days gossiping behind others' backs, achieving nothing.

After a month, those who worked diligently received good salaries. As for those who gossiped all day, they didn't earn much money, and the gossip they got didn't benefit them.

"Alright," Malcolm agreed.

"But you need to find a reasonable excuse. You know, those women in the office are almost as sharp as Sherlock Holmes."

"Don't worry, it will be a discreet increment."

Reese finished her coffee and got ready to leave, but Malcolm reached out and grabbed her wrist.

"Wait," he said.

"Anything else?"

Malcolm pointed to the corner of his lips. "Shouldn't you kiss me first? After all, I just got a raise for your friend. Can't you reward me a little?"

Reese pointed at him. "You just..."

He had almost driven her crazy earlier.

"Just a quick one here, or you can stay a bit longer with me," Malcolm persisted.

Seeing the desire in the man's eyes, Reese couldn't help but tease him.

"Mr. Flynn, what if your employees see you like this? Your good image in their eyes will collapse instantly?"

Malcolm didn't care. "Do you think I care about what others think? I only care about you."

Reese raised an eyebrow, and she noticed that Malcolm's smooth talk was getting better and better.

But in her heart, she was quite satisfied with it.

She tiptoed and kissed the corner of his lips. Malcolm's eyes and smile softened, and he lightly pinched her cheek.

"That's my good girl. Now, go back to work. I'll handle things with the Hawthorne family. You don't need to worry."

Previously, Reese never felt comfortable handing things over to others, but now, someone was willing to take on everything for her, including her strengths, weaknesses, and even her troubles.

She opened the office door. Justin had been waiting outside, fearing someone might enter. Although he didn't know what was happening inside, Mr. Flynn had instructed him beforehand.

Whenever only he and Mrs. Flynn were inside, no one else should disturb them.

Reese nodded at Justin and left.

Justin then entered. "Mr. Flynn, there might be news from the Hawthorne family soon."

"I know, but it's a pity I can't see their expressions. It would be quite interesting."

Just the thought of being able to help Reese made Malcolm particularly pleased.

As Malcolm had anticipated, the situation with the Hawthorne family was indeed in turmoil. Stephen had just woken up to hear this bad news, which almost drove him crazy.

Stephen pounded the bed relentlessly with his grim face.

"What are you all doing? I was unconscious for a few days, and you've already provoked Malcolm to start a new project."

Clara and Sebastian stood by silently.

Seeing their silence, especially Clara's evasive gaze, Stephen, who had lived with this woman for so many years, couldn't be unaware of her intentions.

If Malcolm behaved this way, there must be a reason.

"Clara, explain to me clearly what's going on."

Clara dared not meet Stephen's eyes. "What's going on? What's the use of asking me? I don't understand."

"Did you go to find Reese?"

"Why would I do that? Stop making baseless accusations."

Stephen's face turned serious. "Do you want me to present evidence before you admit it?"

"When did I not admit it? Why would I go to find her?" Clara remained stubborn, refusing to admit it.

Stephen raised his hand as if to slap her, but Sebastian intervened.

"Dad, can you refrain from violence?"

Despite his illness, Stephen's temper hadn't changed a bit.

Stephen's face turned livid with anger, veins popping on his forehead. He pointed at Clara with trembling fingers.

"Do you know that because of her, our family is facing difficulties now? Malcolm is about to start a project similar to ours. What do you think?"

Sebastian hadn't realized the severity of the situation. "Dad, what's the big deal? If he wants to expand, let him. We've been in this business for so many years. Are we afraid of him? Malcolm may dominate in the construction sector. Can he do the same in the media industry? Can he steal our honor?"

"Do you think Malcolm earned the title of business genius for nothing? It's because his mind is sharp in business. Whatever he decides to study, no one can match him." Stephen sneered.

"Well, that's debatable." Sebastian had a different opinion.

Upon hearing Sebastian's bold words, Stephen laughed. It wasn't that he looked down on his son. It was just that there was no comparison between them.

He glanced at Sebastian and suddenly chuckled. "Do you want to tell me that you actually have better business acumen than Malcolm?"

Sebastian awkwardly smiled. "How would I dare to have such presumptuous thoughts? I think that it is not only Malcolm who can do it. Maybe my sister is just as capable as him, especially since she effortlessly infiltrated the Hawthorne Group's backend."

Clara almost hit Sebastian upon hearing this.

"Are you a fool? She's your enemy. You treat her like a sister, yet she's causing trouble behind our backs."
