Chapter 57 Falling hurts, Having a Wife Comforts You
However, there was a strange atmosphere in the room.
It's not hard to guess that Malcolm was upset about what happened earlier.
It's surprising to see the usually proud and cold Malcolm feeling jealous. Just thinking about his gloomy face earlier made her want to laugh.
She approached Malcolm with the medicine in hand, "Drink this first."
Malcolm glanced slightly, "Is this the medicine you went to get early this morning?"
Reese admitted frankly, "Yes, this medicine is hard to come by, but it's very effective for your legs. Drink it quickly."
Malcolm took it and looked at the dark color, couldn't help but frown.
"Is it bitter?"
"Go on, if you drink it, I'll give you candy," Reese spoke gently, sounding more like she was talking to a child.
Malcolm hesitated for a few seconds but decided not to disappoint his wife's kindness. He tilted his head back and drank it all, with Reese standing at his side, this angle gave her a view of his attractive Adam's apple moving up and down, making her imagination run wild.
Realizing that she was actually fixated on a man's Adam's apple, Reese quickly snapped back to reality. She took out a piece of candy from her bag, tore open the wrapper with her pristine fingers, and placed it directly into Malcolm's mouth.
Her slightly cool fingertips touched his warm lips, which were soft.
The sweet taste gradually spread in his mouth, and Malcolm's furrowed brows gradually relaxed. Seeing him like this, Reese couldn't help but tease him.
"You drink medicine and still want to eat candy. Aren't you afraid of being laughed at?"
"I have nothing to be afraid of. After all, I've married my wife. Let them laugh if they want," Malcolm responded, as if enduring bitterness was a noble deed.
"Oh, by the way, this medicine has a bit of a side effect. Forgot to tell you," Reese said.
The man's expression froze for a moment, "Why didn't you say earlier?"
"You didn't ask, but it doesn't matter since you don't need that anyway," Reese smirked, her eyes filled with mischief, but also very charming.
Malcolm noticed that she was smiling, her face bloomed like a hundred flowers. Sweet, refreshing, and delightful. But when she turned cold, it was bone-chilling, a world of hardship.
Impatiently, he urged, "Come on, tell me, what are the side effects?"
"Well, you might experience some slight physical reactions, but they should be bearable. Even if you can't bear it, there's nothing you can do about it."
Either way, she would never have any real marital relations with him, as she had no intention of doing so.
Malcolm lifted an eyebrow and asked, "Isn't it your job to solve this problem?"
"Why should I help you solve it?"
"You're my wife. If you don't help me, should I go find someone else?" Malcolm thought his reasoning was sound.
He believed Reese would surely agree. After all, she was so strong-willed, how could she allow him to seek other women? Just as he was silently smug, Reese's tone suddenly shifted, and she responded enthusiastically.
"Sure, if you can't control yourself, I'll find someone for you. What do you like? Tall, thin, fair, dark, big, small?" She rattled off without realizing the man beside her had an extremely unpleasant expression.
Malcolm had remained silent the whole time. Only now did Reese turn and notice his tightly pressed lips and the faint anger in his eyes.
With a seemingly innocent face, she asked, "What's wrong? Don't you like any of them? I'll bring some photos for you to choose from tomorrow if you want... Ah..."
Reese hadn't finished speaking when Malcolm stretched out his long arm and pulled her into his embrace. Wide-eyed, she instinctively struggled, but Malcolm's grip on her waist prevented her from moving.
In an instant, her smiling face turned frosty, her captivating eyes warning him, "I don't want to fight you. Let go of me in three seconds."
However, Malcolm remained unperturbed and even pressed her closer against him, "You're just taking advantage of my current condition. When my legs are healed, little wildcat, you may not be my match."
He wasn't joking with her. Her quick and agile hands were indeed impressive, clearly well-trained. But she overlooked one thing which was the vast difference in physical strength between men and women.
Reese never liked to admit defeat, so she taunted him with her eyes, "Don't be too confident. Falling down will hurt."
She had won second place several years in a row. Did Malcolm think he could defeat someone who sparred regularly?
Malcolm leaned in closer, his formerly handsome features now revealing a devilish smile that could charm all living things. His warm lips brushed her ear, his voice low and magnetic.
"If you get hurt, you'll have me, your husband, to comfort you."
Reese squinted her eyes, forcefully pushing him away. This time, Malcolm allowed her to leave. When he could stand up again, things between them would surely be even more interesting than they were now.
She held the bowl, feeling somewhat annoyed, especially with the man's annoyingly playful and teasing appearance. Since someone had challenged her, she couldn't back down.
"Not a chance," Reese said.
"In that case, don't cry for mercy," the corners of Malcolm's lips curved deeper, as it was uncertain who would be begging for mercy then.
Neither of them had ever lost to anyone before, so they were both eagerly looking forward to this show.
During dinner in the evening, Reese finished eating and was about to leave the table when Grandpa Flynn, with a serious expression, said, "Reese, don't leave just yet, I have something to ask you."
As a younger generation, Reese had to listen when the elders spoke. She sat back down, her face filled with a smug smile, facing Everly sitting across from her.
"Grandpa, what is it?"
Reese was very audacious and she never got nervous just because an elder asked her something. She believed in standing her ground when faced with challenges, just like a soldier facing an enemy or water covering earth, it was her survival rule.
"I heard that you had a physical altercation with a female colleague at work today," Grandpa Flynn began the interrogation. His words silenced the entire living room. The seriousness on his face, coupled with his history of having a hot temper in his youth, commanded a presence that could intimidate anyone.
Reese didn't defend herself strongly, instead calmly responding, "Yes."
"You've only just started working, and you're already getting into conflicts with your colleagues. Isn't that problematic? You didn't even join the company through proper channels, and now there are rumors of you bullying others, which, if spread outside, would impact the company and subsequently tarnish the reputation of the Flynn family. Do you understand?" Grandpa Flynn was starting to reprimand her. His words instantly silenced the entire living room. With a grave expression on his face, he exuded an aura that could intimidate everyone, despite his old age.
Reese didn't have an entirely righteous position, but she calmly asked her own question in response to Grandpa Flynn's reprimand.
"Should I just bear it even if that female colleague accused me of seducing our boss? She wasn't merely targeting me but she insulted my character. I believe that if people outside know that Mrs. Flynn has been insulted by a colleague in this manner, it would also damage the reputation of the Flynn family."
Everly suddenly chimed in, "You're becoming more and more disrespectful. You even dare to argue with Grandpa when he's reprimanding you."
Alyssa also gave Reese a disdainful glance. "Exactly, when Grandpa reprimands you, even Malcolm doesn't dare to contradict him like this. But you dare to argue with Grandpa. People who come from the Backwoods clearly lack manners and courtesy."
Reese didn't find it strange at all to be attacked like this. Everly's intention in speaking up was to burden Reese with the crime of disrespecting her elders.
Grandpa Flynn was highly respected in the Flynn family, and his grand presence combined with his temperament made it difficult for him to change, even as he aged.
Feeling that his authority had been offended, Grandpa Flynn's face turned dark. He slammed the table and sternly scolded, "Reese, even if you didn't receive a proper education while growing up, respect for elders should have been taught by your teachers. Who gave you permission to speak to me like this?"
The room fell silent as everyone awaited Reese's response.
The atmosphere in the hall grew even more gloomy. The people at the table dared not move. Vincent squinted his eyes slightly, crossed his arms, and had the look of someone enjoying the show.
