Chapter 565 Protect My Wife

Reese couldn't really say she wasn't done yet, 'cause, well, she was almost there.

Now, all they had to do was track down Nolan, but she couldn't just rush it.

She'd already turned down Sofia twice, so this time, she felt too awkward to say no again.

"Almost done," she said.

Sofia chimed in, "Then see if you got time today, I'd like to set up a meet."

While Sofia was talking, she had to keep an eye on her surroundings and watch her words. Nolan had bugged her phone and had someone tailing her.

From what she picked up at the hospital, Nolan had his people all over. If she dared to cross him or spill anything to Reese, her grandma would be toast.

Right now, she knew there were eyes on her.

When Reese picked up Sofia's call, Malcolm was right there, eavesdropping on everything.

Reese checked the time; it was almost noon.

"Alright, you pick a spot, and I'll swing by."

Sofia added, "Invite Mr. Flynn too, or he'll think I left him out."

Sofia was testing if Malcolm would really tag along with Reese 'cause if he did, her chances of pulling anything were slim to none.

She'd already given Nolan a heads-up about these sudden plans; she couldn't just walk into a trap, knowing how much Malcolm had Reese's back. Trying anything with him around would get her busted before she even started.

Reese glanced at Malcolm, who waved her off, clearly not interested.

"Malcolm's got some work at the office, and he's not into our hangouts," Reese said.

Sofia replied, "Oh, that's good. I was worried Mr. Flynn might think I snubbed him. So, just us two. I'll pick a place, and you can come straight over."

Hearing Reese agree, Sofia let out a sigh of relief. Her biggest fear was Reese saying no, which would mess up her plan.

After Reese agreed, she hung up.

She turned to see Malcolm, deep in thought, probably suspicious of Sofia again.

Reese waved her hand in front of him, teasing, "Thinking up another conspiracy, huh?"

Malcolm nodded seriously. "You know me too well, babe."

Reese thought back to Sofia's reaction and what she said. Even though she didn't catch anything off, they couldn't just suspect Sofia 'cause she invited them to lunch.

Reese said, "The key is, do you have any proof?"

They needed evidence now. They couldn't just make stuff up. Besides, Sofia was her college buddy, and they were tight back then.

Especially during college, Sofia had her back a lot.

Malcolm said, "Aren't we hunting for evidence now? Anyway, just be a bit cautious with her."

Since last time, he couldn't shake the feeling that Sofia had some hidden agenda with Reese, especially after all this time, why was she still so keen on a meal?

Reese nodded. "Okay, I'll listen to you. I'll be careful."

At this point, Reese wasn't really suspicious of Sofia yet. Who'd think their college buddy would turn on them?

And they had no beef.

Malcolm, still feeling uneasy, asked Justin, "Did you find anything weird when I had you look into Sofia last time?"

Justin replied, "Yeah, I found some sketchy stuff."

Malcolm quickly asked, "Spill it."

But Justin turned to Reese, "Mrs. Flynn, you should know Sofia's grandma is in the hospital with a serious illness. Keeping her alive ain't cheap, and it needs a ton of cash. Right now, if Sofia wants her grandma to live, she’s gotta keep paying the hospital."

Malcolm asked, "Where's she getting the money?"

Justin said, "That's the fishy part. I checked her income. She makes, like, six or seven grand a month tops. Her grandma's bills are way more than that."

Reese hadn't looked into Sofia's grandma's situation, but from what Justin said, something was definitely off.

Reese said, "Since you told me, I'll keep an eye out."

Suddenly having that much dough was super suspicious. She knew Sofia well enough to know she wouldn't just find someone to lend her that kind of cash outta nowhere.

Malcolm asked Justin, "Did you find out where the money's coming from?"

Justin replied, "Nope, probably 'cause it was given in cash, not through a transfer, so it's hard to trace."

Malcolm rubbed his chin and thought, "If that's the case, we need to check out her past moves."

Only by knowing where she went and who she met could they figure things out.

Reese grabbed Malcolm's arm and said, "Let's not dig into her just yet. Let me get close to her. If she's done something shady, she'll definitely feel guilty, no doubt."

Reese knew Sofia didn't have the strongest mental game. If pushed a bit, she might crack.

Malcolm held Reese's hand tight, his dark eyes full of worry. "Be careful, babe."

He couldn't let anyone hurt Reese.

'Couldn't Malcolm chill a bit? How long have they been married, and they're still acting like newlyweds? What about my feelings?' Justin muttered.

Hearing Justin's grumbling, Reese pushed Malcolm away.

"It's getting late. I'll head out. You guys keep working. Don't sweat Sofia; she can't touch me."

"Okay, call me if anything goes down." After reminding her a bunch of times, Malcolm watched Reese leave.

As the car drove off, Malcolm's eyes turned sharp, his expression tense, totally different from his earlier chill vibe.

He ordered, "Send a couple of guys to follow Reese and keep her safe."

Justin looked exasperated, saying, "Mr. Flynn, you know Mrs. Flynn isn't just anyone. Even if you sent ten guys, she could handle them easily. Sofia's got nothing on her."

Malcolm shot Justin a look and said firmly, "Just do it. Why all the talk?"

Justin sighed, "Yes, sir."

Whenever Reese was involved, Malcolm's reaction was always over the top.

When Reese arrived, she saw Sofia already waiting and walked up to her.
