Chapter 598 Reese Doesn't Want to See Him

Sebastian scratched his head, looking all kinds of awkward. "Yeah, I gotta talk to Reese about something."

Reese had never seen Sebastian this way, and her gut told her it was serious.

She pointed to the couch. "Take a seat."

Once everyone was settled, Malcolm turned to Clora. "Clora, bring some fruit and snacks, please."

Alyssa's eyes lit up at the mention of food. "Malcolm, how'd you know I was starving? I asked Clora for some fruit ages ago, but she's been dragging her feet."

Malcolm shot her a quick look and said pointedly, "You got it wrong. It's for my wife. She said she was hungry when we were out."

Alyssa was floored.

Sebastian suddenly squeezed Alyssa's hand. "Don't sweat it. Next time you want something to eat, I'll take care of it. Promise it'll be just as good."

Alyssa stared at the unusually sweet Sebastian like he'd grown a second head. "What's gotten into you?"

Sebastian shrugged. "Nothing. He spoils his wife, I spoil mine. What's the big deal?"

Alyssa jumped up from the couch. "Who's your wife? Stop talking nonsense."

Sebastian shot back, "Am I? Should I call everyone from your studio to make you admit it? If you wanna play games, I'm down."

No matter how they played, Alyssa couldn't beat him now. He was sure of that.

Last time they played, he noticed Alyssa's style. She was too aggressive, impatient, and her skills were lacking. Sometimes her reactions and thinking couldn't keep up.

But she had potential. She'd been playing just for a while and even opened a studio, so it wasn't a lost cause.

Alyssa was speechless, her cheeks turning red as she glared at him, too embarrassed to speak.

Reese and Malcolm watched the two, looking like a couple of bickering lovebirds.

It was pretty entertaining.

Reese and Malcolm exchanged a knowing look.

Malcolm stepped in. "Didn't you have something to say?"

Alyssa jumped in. "Yeah, didn't you have something to say to Reese?"

Sebastian hesitated. He felt like Reese might kill him if he said it. "Well, I..."

Alyssa saw him struggling and couldn't hold back. "I'll say it. His dad wants to invite you to dinner."

Reese frowned and shot it down immediately. "No."

Sebastian wasn't surprised at all.

But he had promised Stephen, and he wanted their family to get along. It hurt him to see Reese unable to go home.

He tried to convince her. "Reese, maybe give it a shot. What if he's changed and realizes having a daughter is awesome? I want you to come back. It'd be great for our family."

Reese scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Sebastian, you really don't get your dad, do you? He only cares about his own gain, not family. He didn't acknowledge me from the start 'cause he was scared I'd go after the Hawthorne fortune."

No way someone like that just had a change of heart. There must be some other scheme brewing.

Malcolm nodded. If Reese didn't wanna see him, he wasn't gonna push it.

Malcolm leaned back on the couch, legs crossed, looking serious. "Sebastian, tell your dad to forget it. He didn't want Reese before, and now that he regrets it and wants to make nice, we're not buying it."

Sebastian knew the Hawthorne family was in the wrong here.

He cautiously said, "But what if he really has changed? Reese, for my sake, could you give him a chance?"

Reese shot him a look and said bluntly, "So, I have to agree just for you?"

Alyssa almost burst out laughing. Only Reese would dare to say something like that.

She patted Sebastian's shoulder sympathetically. "I've told you before, Reese is stubborn. Once she makes up her mind, she won't change it easily. You should just give up."

But Sebastian wasn't ready to give up. He walked over, grabbed Reese's sleeve, and looked all innocent. "Reese, I'm begging you. Just this once. I'll do anything for you afterward."

Reese sat there, unmoved, a slight smile on her lips. "So, if I don't agree, you won't do anything for me?"

Sebastian replied, "Of course not. I'll still do it. I've always been your biggest fan."

Reese stayed silent.

Sebastian plopped down next to her, holding her arm and pleading. "Reese... please. Just this once. I'll do whatever you want in the future."

Reese looked down and asked him directly, "Why should I go to this dinner? I know Stephen's got bad intentions. Why should I walk into his trap?"

Sebastian still held a sliver of hope for Stephen, but he got where Reese was coming from. "How about this, Reese? You go, and I'll handle my dad if he tries anything shady."

Reese was a bit surprised he'd say that, considering Stephen was his dad.

She raised an eyebrow. "You don't have to do that. Just tell him I said no."

"But what if he really wants to make amends?" He didn't want to miss this chance. If the two families made up, it would be good for everyone.

Reese had already shown a lot of patience with Sebastian. If it were anyone else, she would've kicked them out by now.

Malcolm could see Reese was getting annoyed and knew how she felt about the Hawthorne family.

He stood up, walked over to Sebastian, and looked down at him with a strong presence. "Go back and tell Stephen that Reese doesn't want to see him."

Sebastian was intimidated by Malcolm's presence. Malcolm's aura was too strong, and Sebastian's heart skipped a beat.

He knew there was no room for negotiation and could only agree. "Alright, since Reese really doesn't want to, I'll leave now."

As Sebastian reached the door, Reese suddenly called out to him.

"Sebastian..."
