Chapter 409 Soft-hearted
"You made the right choice, but I'm afraid Nolan will take his anger out on you. Do you understand what I mean?"
Previously, Reese was fearless when alone, indifferent to whatever they did. But now, Reese wasn't just by herself. Nolan would surely have people plotting against her, making her vulnerable.
Reese didn't want Malcolm to get hurt because of her, otherwise Aiden would definitely come after her.
With no concrete plan at the moment, Reese could only take things step by step.
"Let's go back for now," she said.
"Alright, let's go back and talk. Don't worry about your grandmother. We'll definitely investigate the matter thoroughly. You shouldn't go to work in these next few, just rest at home."
Malcolm observed that Reese didn't seem up for work at the moment. It wouldn't serve much purpose anyway, as she just dealt with minor matters there.
Malcolm reached up and rubbed Reese's head, a gesture she had grown fond of, giving her a sense of security and protection.
No one wanted to face everything alone. If they had, they must be those who simply lack care.
"I'll be done with these matters in a couple of days. I'll take you out to relax. We've never been on a trip since we got married."
Malcolm wanted to take Reese out to ease her recent tension.
Reese shared the same sentiment. "Alright, we'll go out for a walk then."
Just as the two returned to the Flynn family, they saw Vincent driving out, prompting Reese to remember something.
"He seems very busy these days. Alyssa often sees him going out."
Malcolm didn't think much of it. "He's probably going to the clinic, and they seem to be researching some new medication recently."
It was then that Malcolm recalled the time he had saved Reese on the train. She had received medicine from the other party.
"How's the medicine from last time? Was it delivered?"
"Yes, it was delivered, and it's been developed. It's already in use, and more people will be treated in the future."
Reese had heard Grandpa Robert mention it before, but the results were still pending and likely needed some improvements.
Malcolm's eyes softened upon hearing Reese's words, tinged with a hint of pride. "My wife may seem cold on the outside, but in reality, she has a heart of gold, more than anyone else."
Reese seemed to catch the underlying meaning and glanced at Malcolm.
"By the way you say it, it's as if I lacked a heart before."
"No, dear, you're just cool on the outside but warm inside. I was praising you. Now, get inside. You still have things to do."
Malcolm embraced Reese as they went inside. Reese noticed his smile and curiously asked, "What else do I have to do?"
With a furrowed brow, Malcolm looked at Reese's puzzled expression and chuckled softly. "What do you think it is?"
Reese looked embarrassed. Was that what he meant?
Malcolm saw through what Reese thought at a glance. A low, hoarse laugh escaped Malcolm's throat, sounding particularly pleasant.
"Honey, are you getting the wrong idea?"
Reese couldn't admit it, so she could only reply awkwardly.
"Of course not. What exactly do you want me to do?"
Malcolm saw Reese's lively eyes blinking incessantly, coupled with her face desperately trying to maintain a smile, which was really cute. Malcolm couldn't help but lean on Reese's shoulder, laughing heartily.
"Honey, you are so adorable."
Malcolm laughed happily, while Reese felt awkward and wanted to disappear immediately.
"Okay, stop laughing. You're trying to lead me on," she said.
"I didn't set a trap for you, and you misinterpreted it yourself," Malcolm hurriedly explained, the smile on his handsome face deepening.
Reese raised her hand to hit Malcolm, but Malcolm reached out to pull her into a hug, patting her shoulder gently, coaxing her softly.
"Alright, honey, I'll stop laughing."
The conversation returned to its original topic.
Malcolm hugged Reese as they walked upstairs. "Do you remember the coffee brand you bought? Justin has already discussed it, and you will be in charge of running it in the future."
Reese was taken aback. "Aren't you running it yourself?"
"You like the coffee, so you should handle it. Besides, I believe with your abilities, you can handle things quickly."
This was Malcolm's affirmation of Reese's abilities.
Reese always felt that Malcolm was trying to lead her on. She angrily pinched Malcolm's waist, causing him to instinctively dodge backward. "Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
"No. After all, I also want to meet your people."
Malcolm remembered the people who had followed Reese before, who were willing to risk their lives for her. There weren't many people like that now.
It proved that Reese's judgment of people was correct.
Reese's heart skipped a beat as she looked at Malcolm with furrowed brows, almost yelling out, but her tone was very certain. "You checked up on me, didn't you?"
Malcolm raised his hands, looking particularly sincere. "I didn't, I just suddenly remembered about the last time you intercepted my project on the train before, and the computer expert who followed you."
Malcolm still didn't know the name.
At this point, Reese felt that she and Malcolm had been through thick and thin together, so she no longer hid the identities of Calvin and the others from Malcolm.
Reese agreed straightforwardly. "I'll go talk to them, see if they agree to meet you, and also get their opinions."
"No problem, I think they will definitely agree. After all, it's the husband of their boss, they should get to know me better, maybe even negotiate for a raise in the future, right?"
Malcolm's words carried a deep meaning, prompting Reese to remind him.
"Don't try to poach people from me. Besides, they won't follow you. Those are the ones who have been through life and death with me, and they won't change easily."
Reese was very confident about this.
"Okay." Malcolm was just joking. Even if he wanted to recruit them, he couldn't steal people from his wife.
In the end, Reese compromised with Malcolm. "Let Justin send me the contract, and I'll check it when I have time."
Malcolm hugged Reese and kissed the corner of her lips. The two of them were immersed in a sweet atmosphere, unable to hide their affection for each other in their eyes.
"My wife is the best, and it is my honor to choose you."
Within a few minutes, Justin called Malcolm away from the Flynn family because there was a company emergency to deal with. Reese could tell from Justin's expression that it was quite serious, but the situation arose suddenly, and she didn't have time to inquire further before Malcolm had already left.
Well, once Malcolm sorted things out, he would naturally inform her.
Reese returned to the study and was just about to sit down and review a contract, when Calvin video-called with a playful smile.
"Reese, has your recent married life been so blissful that you've forgotten about us?"
Seeing Calvin, Reese suddenly recalled the incident with Everhart, despite her dislike for him. However, in the end, Everhart, despite causing trouble for Reese, also inadvertently contributed to her success.
Reluctantly, Reese decided to assist Everhart in this matter.
"Let me tell you something serious. When I was at Nolan Dixon's place today, I saw Everhart Johnson being punished. It seems there was a business deal where he was deceived, resulting in significant losses for Nolan."
"That doesn't sound right. Everhart has always been meticulous in his work and hasn't had any issues over the years," Calvin responded.
