Chapter 561 Voice Actor

If she knew Wade had kicked the bucket ages ago, and that the cash wasn't even his debt but a trap Nolan set up, she'd be totally crushed.

After mulling it over, Reese decided to zip it. Once they got the lowdown, they'd bounce.

Just as she turned to ask Malcolm if he had any cash on him, Malcolm had already given Justin the nod.

Catching that, Justin pulled out a bunch of stacks from his bag and slapped them on the table.

Reese and Malcolm shared a look and grinned.

They really had that unspoken connection.

Reese slid the money over to the old lady and said, "Ma'am, this is a little something from us. Wade's been killing it at work, super dedicated. His paycheck's pretty fat now. But we heard he might've owed some dough, and those debt collectors even showed up at your place. We need to get the scoop."

The old lady bought it, no questions asked. She hadn't heard from Wade in years, but she clung to his promise: when he had cash, he'd make sure she lived the good life. So, she waited, year after year, hoping her boy would come back a success.

She didn't even touch the money first and quickly asked Reese, "How's Wade doing now? Has he lost weight?"

Reese said, "Nah, he's doing great. Working his butt off and just got a promotion, so he's swamped and can't make it back to see you."

The old lady didn't push it further and instead asked Reese why they were there.

"Do you wanna know about the money Wade owed? I got the receipts 'cause those folks come knocking every month."

Reese's brow furrowed. "How long have they been shaking you down?"

"Over a year now. If I tally it up, it's tens of thousands of dollars." The old lady's face darkened, recalling the nightmare.

Hearing that, Reese's frown deepened, her determination to nail Nolan growing stronger.

If it weren't for his greedy schemes, this family wouldn't be in this mess.

If the old lady knew Wade had been dead for years, she'd be shattered.

Reese said, "Ma'am, how about this: you hand over the receipts, and we'll cover the money, okay?"

The old lady was confused. "Why? This has nothing to do with you. It's my son's debt, and it's already been paid."

It was clear the old lady had principles.

Malcolm chimed in, "Actually, your son didn't owe that much. It was just a few grand. Those guys were trying to squeeze more out of you, so they lied."

The old lady looked at them, stunned. "How could this be? But why didn't Wade ever tell me? I had no clue."

"He probably didn't want to stress you out." Malcolm made up an excuse. He knew Reese felt for the old lady and wouldn't spill the beans.

The old lady didn't pry further and got up. "Hang tight for a sec. I'll go grab it."

"Sure thing, thanks." Malcolm gave a slight nod.

Once the old lady headed inside, Reese turned to Malcolm, "Babe, I wanna..."

Malcolm squeezed her hand, already knowing, "I get it. I'll have Justin grab the cash from the car."

Malcolm always had a hunch something might go down when they were out, so he made sure Justin kept a stash of money in the car, just in case.

Reese felt her heart melt as she realized Malcolm could read her so well. Often, she didn't even need to say a word, and Malcolm would know exactly what she wanted.

She added, "But don't spill the details to the old lady. She might not be able to handle it."

"Got it." Malcolm held Reese's hand tighter, his eyes full of love.

Justin quickly chimed in, "Mr. Flynn, I'll go grab the money from the car."

Reese practically shoved the money and card into the old lady's hands. This cash was pocket change for them, but for the old lady, it was a lifeline, ensuring she could enjoy her golden years.

The old lady was beyond grateful, almost dropping to her knees to thank them.

She said, full of gratitude, "Thank you so much. With bosses like you, I can rest easy about Wade."

Reese and the crew had other stuff to handle and couldn't stick around. They had to hit the next house.

The next family's situation was way better than Wade's.

This time, Reese didn't leave any money because Wade's family was really struggling, and the old lady was indeed pitiful.

After snagging the receipts, Reese hopped in the car and compared them. She found out Nolan had been milking Wade's family for more, probably thinking the old lady was an easy mark.

Luckily, they had made it right, but Wade's life was gone for good.

Justin heard Reese promise the old lady that Wade would call her, and he was puzzled, asking, "Mrs. Flynn, how are you gonna handle that? Wade's been dead for years. How can he make a call?"

Reese, however, was totally chill, looking relaxed.

"What's there to worry about? Be glad she only wants a call. If she wanted to see him in person, that'd be a real pickle."

Justin added, "The key is, how are you gonna make the old lady believe it's her son? She must know his voice like the back of her hand. We can't just get anyone to fake it."

"Justin, go call the old lady's son over."

Suddenly, a deep, resonant voice filled the car, making Justin momentarily freeze.

'Isn't that Malcolm's voice? But Malcolm hasn't said a word, so where's it coming from?' he thought.

There were only three of them in the car. It couldn't be him, and Malcolm hadn't spoken. That left only one person, Reese!

Justin looked at Reese in shock, exclaiming, "Mrs. Flynn, don't tell me you're actually a voice actor."
