Chapter 389 Being Nice to You
Reese didn't plan to tell Malcolm about this matter. She didn't want to trouble Malcolm with things she could handle, but she underestimated Malcolm's ability to gather information, especially with Justin, who was exceptionally efficient by his side.
Justin quickly informed Malcolm about what had happened. Malcolm frowned at the news, his lips tight, and his expression was intimidating.
"I think Stephen doesn't want the Hawthorne family's business to thrive!"
"Mr. Flynn, it doesn't seem like Stephen called Clara. He's still in the hospital and hasn't woken up yet. Maybe Clara already knows that Mrs. Flynn is the daughter of the Flynn family and is afraid that Mrs. Flynn will compete with their sons for the property in the future."
"Does she think everyone in the Hawthorne family values their property? She underestimates Reese's strength and doesn't even consider me," Malcolm sarcastically remarked.
Was the Flynn family short of money?
Justin nodded continuously. "Exactly, the Flynn family doesn't want a conflict with the Hawthorne family. Otherwise, who knows who will win in the competition."
Malcolm touched his chin. Justin knew that with Mr. Flynn's current attitude, he definitely wouldn't let them off easily.
'You can bully me, but trying to bully Reese is impossible.' That was Mr. Flynn's current motto.
After a moment, Malcolm spoke. "In that case, find a few people to expand the projects on the Hawthorne family's side. It's time for the Flynn Group to add other projects."
Justin was surprised. Mr. Flynn seemed to be preparing for a confrontation with the Hawthorne family.
" Mr. Flynn, isn't your approach too obvious? The Hawthorne family will see through it at a glance. The Flynn Group has always focused on stocks, real estate, and land development. Suddenly venturing into media is a significant leap. Besides, we don't have the expertise in that area. If it comes to movie investments in the future, we won't know what to do."
Malcolm glanced at Justin. "Don't you know how to do research? With money, we shouldn't have trouble finding professionals. Let the subordinates catch up."
If the Flynn Group decided to develop other projects, they must show results. Malcolm was not messing around.
In fact, Malcolm had been thinking about this before. He hesitated because the Hawthorne family had no grievances with him. Suddenly, their leading group ventured into other projects, causing concern among industrial peers. But now, his goal is to make the Hawthorne family anxious.
Their current industry had reached saturation, and there were no projects that attracted Malcolm. Trying something new might raise his curiosity.
Justin wiped the sweat off his forehead. Mr. Flynn seemed willing to take a big risk for his wife and go all out.
If the people from the Hawthorne family found out, they'll be furious.
He was about to leave when Malcolm called him back.
"Wait, spread the news that the Flynn Group is going to develop these projects and let the media broadcast it."
Justin was puzzled. "Is that appropriate, Mr. Flynn?"
Doing that would be like directly confronting the Hawthorne family and standing at their door to declare war.
Malcolm coldly glanced at Justin. "What's inappropriate about it? If we're starting, why not let others know?"
"I'll go now," Justin replied.
Soon, news of the Flynn Group's project expansion spread throughout the industry. The media reported it, causing a stir in the business world, with some pleased and others worried.
After all, for other companies, Malcolm's shift to other fields meant they might have a more substantial piece of the cake. Previously, the Flynn Group dominated, and many companies were barely surviving. Some had even gone bankrupt due to the pressure from the Flynn Group.
What could they do? Malcolm's exceptional abilities always led to successful projects under his guidance.
Reese soon saw the news, and her expression changed. She almost immediately stood up, catching Sophia's attention.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'll go up." Reese left the office and took the elevator to the eighteenth floor.
Justin had just returned when he saw Reese storming toward him.
"Mrs. Flynn."
"Where is he?" Reese snapped.
"Mr. Flynn is in the office."
Like a whirlwind, Reese passed Justin and pushed open the office door.
Justin knew something was amiss by seeing Reese's expression, probably due to Mr. Flynn's sudden announcement.
Although he felt the move was too ostentatious, Mrs. Flynn hadn't been at a disadvantage. On the contrary, the other party suffered heavy losses.
Malcolm was reading documents when he heard the door being pushed open.
He looked up, and Reese was standing in front of him. "What's going on?"
"What do you mean?" he asked. Malcolm could roughly understand why Reese had come to see him, but he wasn't sure what she was thinking.
"Why are you suddenly expanding into other industries? You're clearly targeting the Hawthorne family, but the Hawthorne family has been in this industry for years. You know that. By abruptly changing course, you're taking a significant risk. I don't need you to help me deal with the Hawthorne family. I can handle it on my own. I certainly don't need you to take such a reckless gamble."
Unlike himself, she was alone, with most of her loved ones gone. Malcolm, on the other hand, had the Flynn family to both support and rely on. He was crucial to the family.
If Grandpa Flynn knew he was paying such a high price just to vent anger, he would be furious.
Malcolm understood Reese's concerns. She was worried that he wasn't a match for the Hawthorne family in this industry, where they were a leading company. He was a rookie in this new field.
He reached out his hands to take Reese's hand and pulled her onto his lap, speaking softly and gently, as if a louder tone would hurt her.
His patience shone through at that moment.
"Reese, don't burden yourself with too much. I'm not doing this for you. The company wanted to start expanding into other projects before. Our current industry is saturated."
Starting from a different perspective, Malcolm didn't want Reese to feel pressured. But if the Hawthorne family dared to provoke Reese, he had to retaliate. Reese wasn't foolish, and Malcolm's clumsy excuses wouldn't deceive her.
Although Reese was angry on the surface, she felt warm inside. She never expected Malcolm to take such a big risk for her.
If the investment failed or the new venture didn't take off, it would be a significant blow to Malcolm.
"Thank you." At that moment, Reese's heart softened completely. She sat on Malcolm's lap, her hands around his neck, leaning in to kiss him, whispering.
Reese's voice was gentle and tender, like a kitten scratching at his heart. Malcolm's blood surged, his body temperature rising sharply.
Reese always had a fatal attraction to him. Whenever she got close to him, his body reacted right away.
After all this time together, having her take the initiative was rare.
She stirred his heart, and he couldn't let her leave so easily.
Even though Reese was bold, she still had to consider the situation. Just as Malcolm was about to act, Reese stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
"Someone might come in."
"If they dare, I'll have them kicked out of the company tomorrow!" Malcolm lightly tapped Reese's nose. "Do you think anyone can just barge into the CEO's office without knocking?"
Reese hadn't thought about it when she came in before, and there was no one around.
If there were other colleagues around, Reese would have to be more cautious.
But in the office, anyone would feel embarrassed in such a situation.
"Shall we wait... "
Malcolm's kiss cut off Reese's words.
The atmosphere between them gradually heated up.
Sophia hadn't seen Reese return and was worried she might have offended Malcolm. She decided to go upstairs to check.
As she reached the door, she wanted to knock, but Justin stopped her in time.
"Mr. Flynn is busy inside. What's the matter?"
Seeing Justin, Sophia felt a bit nervous. After all, he was a prominent figure next to Mr. Flynn.
"It's nothing. I just saw Reese come up and got a bit worried. I hope she didn't argue with Mr. Flynn."
"No, don't worry. Reese knows a bit about media, and Mr. Flynn is consulting her because the company is about to start expanding into other businesses."
Justin was good at improvising.
Having seen the announcement earlier, Sophia wondered why Mr. Flynn, who had experience in various industries, was picking a fight with the Hawthorne family, especially in an area where they excelled.
But it was also good. Mr. Flynn had indirectly helped Reese. Ms. Hawthorne has caused trouble for Reese.
Sophia nodded. "I'll leave now."
Since Justin said Reese were discussing business with Mr. Flynn inside, she decided not to rush.
After Sophia left, Reese heard Malcolm saying, "Sophia is quite nice to you."
