Chapter 524 Deal with This Old Man
Reese felt a wave of relief seeing Sebastian's minor injuries. In Nolan's territory, intruders usually had it much worse. She felt lucky and grateful he was okay.
Nolan, looking furious, stormed up to Reese. "Reese, Sebastian's your brother, right? You need to take responsibility. He brought a bunch of people here, smashing things and hitting folks, saying he was getting revenge for you."
Reese might not be great at everything, but she fiercely protected her own, especially her younger brother, Sebastian. Even if she didn't always call him her brother, their family bond was unbreakable.
This bond set them apart from Nolan, who was now her enemy. They both secretly wished the other would disappear.
Considering Nolan's accusation, Reese knew she had to confront him.
"Nolan, Sebastian's just a kid. Let's see how many of your people were actually hurt. If they were, we'll cover the medical bills. But remember, Sebastian isn't just anyone. If the Hawthorne family comes after you, that's a big problem," Reese said.
She put pressure on Nolan, who was picking on a young guy for no reason.
Nolan's face darkened. "So, you're saying you want to hold me responsible?"
"Not exactly. I admit, Sebastian messed up; he did come looking for trouble. But your people beat him up, so you have to take some responsibility too."
Reese made it clear: they were ready to own up, but Nolan couldn't put all the blame on them.
Nolan had initially agreed to let Everhart go, but then he chased them down, clearly wanting them gone.
Sebastian was touched seeing Reese argue with Nolan for him. Leaning on a friend, he almost cried. "See that? That's my sister. She always says she hates me, but her actions show otherwise. Look, she's standing up for me," he said.
"I didn't know you had such a pretty sister. Is she dating anyone? Maybe I could—"
Before the guy could finish, Sebastian covered his mouth. "Don't even think about it. Her husband gets angry easily. If you want to stay alive, don't mess with her."
"Alright, she's married. I won't mess with her."
Alyssa saw Sebastian still chatting and got frustrated. She walked over and confronted him. "Sebastian, can you stop making things harder for Reese? She's already exhausted, and now she has to clean up your mess."
Sebastian finally noticed Alyssa and quickly explained, "I didn't mean to. Reese was being chased by this old man's people today. If I hadn't stepped in, she'd be in his hands now."
Alyssa didn't know much about Nolan, but one look at his face told her he was bad news.
Still, Sebastian's actions had clearly caused trouble for Reese. Otherwise, Malcolm wouldn't be here.
"But sometimes, what you think is helping doesn't actually help. Do you get that?" Alyssa said.
She lingered for a moment, sensing the tension between Nolan and Reese.
Seeing Alyssa, Sebastian got angry. This girl was everywhere.
"Can you stop showing up and commenting without knowing the full story? I saw that old man making moves on Reese, so I had to step in. If it were anyone else, I wouldn't have bothered, got it?"
He bore the bruises from his fight with the old man's lackeys, yet it seemed like nobody cared. Meanwhile, Alyssa wasted no time questioning him.
Alyssa didn't know how to deal with Sebastian's mindset. Sometimes it was really frustrating; why couldn't he see the bigger picture?
Malcolm walked over and said to Alyssa, "Alyssa, take Sebastian out of here. Reese and I will handle the rest."
Looking at the two imposing staff members behind Malcolm, Alyssa asked, "Malcolm, are you sure about this?"
"Don't worry, I've got it covered. Just take him out."
Malcolm had already talked to the relevant people. Since Sebastian was only injured and the issue wasn't too serious, there was no problem with him leaving.
But the follow-up issues would need to be handled by him and Reese.
"Malcolm, you always got this." Alyssa then turned to Sebastian and nodded. "Let's go."
But Sebastian threw a tantrum. "I'm not leaving. I want to wait for Reese. And I want to know why that old man sent a whole army after her."
Sebastian felt he had to get to the bottom of this today; otherwise, it wouldn't justify the beating he took.
Malcolm's eyes darkened, his jaw tightened. "Sebastian, go with Alyssa. We'll handle this. Don't worry. This isn't something you can solve, understand?"
Sebastian actually admired Malcolm a lot because he had seen Malcolm's skills, especially his combat abilities, which were beyond his reach. He often dreamed of reaching that level.
Malcolm's commanding presence resonated with Sebastian, prompting him to listen without hesitation.
"Okay, I'll listen to you," Sebastian said. "But you and Reese better deal with that old man. It's outrageous—a bunch of men chasing a woman. No class at all."
Sebastian cursed as he left, giving Nolan a disdainful look before finally stepping out.
