Chapter 477 The Truth
Reese suddenly remembered something and turned to Calvin. "Keep an eye on Vincent. I have a feeling he's not done causing trouble."
"I get it, but in his situation, how much trouble can he cause?"
Reese had already isolated Vincent by cutting off his only ally. Who else could he turn to? Once Aiden was out of the hospital, it would be time to settle things with Vincent.
Vincent had better be ready to face the consequences by then.
"We still need to be cautious. Remember, we didn't expect him to pull that last stunt either."
Reese was always on guard, especially about people causing trouble behind the scenes. It made things harder to defend against.
"Alright, I'll check it out. Don't worry."
After leaving the Flynn family, Calvin quickly found the doctor. He took him to a pre-arranged, secluded spot, called Louis, and then notified Reese.
When Reese arrived and saw Louis, she instinctively frowned.
"What's going on? Why did he call you over? Can't he handle a deceitful doctor on his own?"
"Calvin might be feeling lonely. He's in his twenties and still single. It's a sad story, Reese, you have to understand."
Reese had recently assigned Louis many tasks, keeping him very busy. Yet, he still found time to come and help Calvin.
"You should go back to your work. Calvin and I can handle this. Besides, you likely haven't been sleeping well lately. Be mindful of your liver health."
Reese was a doctor and could tell from Louis's appearance that he had been too busy lately, neglecting his health. She had told him before that if he didn't have time, he could put things off temporarily.
Louis nodded, "Thanks for your concern, Reese. Let me help you handle this first. I haven't seen you in a while, and I miss you."
Hearing this, Reese felt a warm feeling in her heart. She raised her hand and ruffled Louis's hair like a big sister.
"Alright, you can stay and help us with this, then go back. I'll write you a prescription later. Go to the pharmacy and get some medicine. Men need to take care of their liver, as neglecting it can affect kidney function in the future."
At that moment, Calvin walked out and heard what Reese said. He patted Louis on the shoulder and teased him.
"Did you hear that? Reese said the liver is important, or it will affect the kidneys. If your kidneys fail, you might have trouble finding a wife. Be careful."
Louis glanced at Calvin and joked, "Come on, you've been single for years. How can you talk about me?"
Reese saw them chatting and interrupted.
"Let's get to business. Calvin, have you questioned him? Has he confessed?"
Calvin shook his head. "Just as you thought, he's not budging. I've spent hours trying to get him to talk, but he hasn't said a word."
Louis nodded at Calvin. "See, I told you, Reese is always ahead of the game. She knew this guy wouldn't crack easily."
Reese shrugged. "He's being paid to do someone else's dirty work. If he spills, he's in trouble, and the person who hired him will come after him. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place."
Calvin understood and gave Reese a thumbs up. "You're smart. So what now? This guy's as old as my grandpa. I can't rough him up, and he won't talk when I try to reason with him."
Reese touched her nose, thinking. "He's old and still willing to harm others for money. I've seen the prescription he gave Aiden. If taken long-term, it would lead to kidney failure. Even I couldn't fix that."
Calvin was shocked. "That's brutal. If I were him, I'd betray them and tell Aiden who was trying to harm him. He'd reward me for saving his life. It's a win-win."
Reese smacked Calvin on the head. "Are you dumb? Do you think he can just back out after agreeing to such a scheme? If Aiden pursues it, he'll be worse off than now! There are no free lunches in the world."
Calvin rubbed his head. "Alright, you're right."
Reese asked, "Did you find out about his family? Maybe we can start there."
Everyone has a reason for their actions. He wouldn't just accept someone's favor and do such harmful things for no reason.
"Yeah, I did. His kids are ungrateful and don't want to take care of him. His wife has cancer and requires a lot of money."
"That must be it. Bring his wife here."
Reese didn't want to use force on the old man, so appealing to his family seemed the best option.
Seeing that this wouldn't be resolved quickly, Louis volunteered. "I'll go, Reese."
"Alright, have Calvin send you the address."
"Okay, I'll drive. Calvin, send me the address."
After Louis left, Reese and Calvin went inside. They didn't harm the doctor. After all, he was an elderly man. They brought him to such a secluded place to prevent him from escaping.
The old doctor was shocked to see Reese. He didn't expect one of his captors to be a young woman. However, she looked familiar. Had he seen her somewhere before?
Reese pulled up a chair and sat in front of the old doctor, getting straight to the point. "I know you're a doctor. I've reviewed the prescription you gave Aiden. The prescription is correct, but the medication is problematic. You should know the consequences of taking those drugs."
Seeing that his actions were exposed, the old doctor didn't argue much. "As long as I get the money, I'll find a way to inform you."
