Chapter 552 Easing His Emotions
Reese's act of snatching bullets out of the air left them in stunned disbelief. Never before had they seen someone possessing such extraordinary capabilities, confronting them as if she could effortlessly take on ten opponents simultaneously.
Reese's intention wasn't to take their lives but to deliver a message. "If you want to live, I can let you go, but you must pass on a message to your boss who sent you to kill me," Reese offered.
The men nodded hastily. "Okay, we will definitely pass it on."
"Tell him, if he wants to escape, he could start running now because no matter where he goes, I will find him!" Reese's eyes were bold and unrestrained, her words filled with unwavering confidence, as if she could do whatever she said.
Once again, the men found themselves paralyzed by Reese's presence, practically melding into the wall, hoping to disappear into its very surface. They found Reese was simply too terrifying to confront directly.
The man who married her must be just as formidable, daring to wed such a fierce woman. If they ever had an argument, wouldn't she just... The mere thought of it left the men feeling overwhelming sympathy for her husband.
Little did they know, Malcolm was incredibly content, so elated that he longed to shout to the world about his extraordinary wife. His joy was of a kind that these ordinary individuals couldn't fathom or comprehend.
Shortly after, Reese released the men. However, the incident had already been reported to the police due to the presence of weapons, suggesting questionable motives on their part. Entrusting the authorities to handle their case was the appropriate course of action, as it would help deter any potential future troubles they might instigate.
She knew very well that Malcolm still valued brotherhood and this time, he just wanted to extend a final chance to Vincent. Malcolm believed that if Vincent didn't seize this opportunity, his next destination would inevitably be prison. Unfortunately, Vincent failed to grasp this chance and instead found himself in an even more precarious situation.
As the commotion outside settled down, the onlookers who had been observing the scene began to once again gather around. Seeing that Reese had just stopped the armed men, they started discussing.
"This woman is too amazing. Did anyone see what happened? She actually subdued those armed men."
"I didn't see it. I was too busy running."
"I thought for sure someone would die in the hospital today, but she was so incredible. Maybe she's a veteran or from a special forces unit. How else could an ordinary person have such skills?"
"I was so scared my legs went weak, but she didn't even call for help and handled it all by herself."
Tuning out their discussions, Reese remained unfazed. Her past was riddled with countless life-and-death encounters, rendering such scenes familiar to her. With practiced ease, she settled onto the bed and reached for her phone, dialing Malcolm's number.
Meanwhile Malcolm was waiting outside Aiden's operating room, and the doctor came out. He immediately stepped forward, inquiring, "Doctor, how is my grandfather?"
"Fortunately, we were able to save him in time, so he's not in immediate danger. But what did you feed Mr. Aiden Flynn that triggered his heart attack?"
Malcolm handed the doctor the milk Everly had given earlier. After a brief whiff, the doctor's expression darkened. "This here likely triggered Mr. Flynn's heart attack. We'll run some tests on it, and if there's a problem, you'll be the first to know."
Malcolm thanked the doctor, "Thank you for your help."
"It's all part of the job," the doctor replied.
As Malcolm's phone incessantly buzzed in his pocket, he retrieved it to find Reese's name flashing on the screen. Stepping aside, he answered, "Honey, what's the situation over there? Grandpa is fine, I can come over soon."
"No need, I've already handled it. Just take good care of Grandpa," Reese spoke lightly, as if it was just a trivial matter. But only those who witnessed the event knew how dangerous and thrilling it was.
Malcolm's heart skipped a beat hearing Reese's words. "Vincent has already made a move. Are you hurt? I'm coming over now!" he asked with concern.
Reese felt a surge of warmth upon hearing the concern in Malcolm's voice. It was a reassuring reminder of her husband's unwavering care for her. Calmly, she assured him, "No, I'm fine. I'm not hurt. I've let Vincent's men go, but I've got proof. You can have Justin arrest Vincent now. Those men will scurry back to report, and Vincent will definitely try to escape."
Yet, she harbored no urgency. A true predator relished watching its prey flee, even letting it believe it had slipped away from danger, oblivious to the surveillance. Reese yearned to engage in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse with Vincent.
Malcolm understood Reese's nature. He wasn't surprised she released those men, but ultimately, they would still face justice. "Thank you, honey. It's my fault. If it weren't for Grandpa... I shouldn't have left you alone at the hospital," he apologized.
Reflecting on the peril Reese had encountered, potentially dancing on the edge of death multiple times, stirred a profound ache in Malcolm's heart. He had vowed to Reese that once she became his wife, she would be shielded from all danger and adversity. Regrettably, he had failed to uphold that promise.
Anticipating Malcolm's potential feelings of guilt, Reese swiftly interjected with a lighthearted excuse. "Since you couldn't make it in time, how about you treat me to dinner tonight? Time to flaunt those culinary skills of yours."
Since their marriage, she had yet to have a chance to taste Malcolm's cooking. Now was the time to find a legitimate reason to try it.
Malcolm recognized Reese's efforts to soothe his emotions. Without hesitation, he responded, "Absolutely, I've got this. Just leave it to me."
"Got it. I'll let you focus," Reese decided to keep the specifics about the incident to herself. Aware that Malcolm, if informed, might want to take drastic measures against Vincent. However, she underestimated Malcolm's concern for her.
As soon as they hung up, Malcolm's expression turned cold, and his demeanor changed completely. "Find out what happened at the hospital just now. I want every detail."
