Chapter 530 Nolan's Methods
"Let's talk about it later. Right now, we need to find Calvin," Reese said, clearly worried about his safety.
Louis nodded, trying to reassure her. "Don't stress, Reese. I've got Ryan tracking Calvin. It might just be a bad signal since he's in the countryside."
"Okay," Reese replied, not saying more.
Louis knew Reese was really worried about Calvin. He'd gone there for her, and the situation seemed more complicated than it appeared.
Calvin's trip was risky, especially since he was alone.
When Reese arrived, she didn't rest. She immediately got a car and headed to where Calvin had disappeared. After asking around, she found out Calvin had been there a few days ago.
Reese and Louis were now fully committed to finding Calvin.
Meanwhile, Sofia was having a rough time. Reese had an urgent matter and missed their appointment, and then Nolan called at 3 PM.
"Did Reese tell you?" Nolan's authoritative voice made Sofia shiver.
"No... Reese had to leave town suddenly, so we didn't meet," Sofia stammered.
She gripped the phone tightly, fearing Nolan's anger. She wasn't scared for herself but worried he might target her grandmother in the hospital.
Sofia felt trapped. If she didn't do what Nolan wanted, her grandmother's life was at risk. But if she did, Nolan's demands were nearly impossible.
Reese was different from others. Even in college, she was decisive and perceptive. Sofia suspected Reese might already be wary of her. Whether Reese really had an urgent matter or was avoiding her was unclear.
Nolan, frustrated by Sofia's response, exploded. "Sofia, I gave you a chance, and you blew it. Don't blame me."
Terrified, Sofia pleaded, "Nolan, what are you going to do?"
Nolan's voice was cold. "You know what I’ll do. I told you, help me get close to Reese and get the answers I need, and you'd be rewarded. But you've made no progress. I have no patience for slackers. Consider this a warning. Next time, prepare for your grandmother's funeral." He hung up abruptly.
Sofia, panicked, shouted at the disconnected phone, "Nolan... I was wrong. I'll find Reese right now." But all she heard was the cold beeping.
Despair washed over Sofia as she collapsed into a chair, her hands shaking. What could she do now? Nolan's threats were real, and her grandmother's safety was at stake.
With her mind racing, Sofia grabbed her phone and rushed to the hospital. Twenty anxious minutes later, she arrived, only to hear commotion from the ward that sent chills down her spine.
"Get her to the ER now!" someone shouted. Sofia's heart clenched as she hurried to the entrance, where she saw her grandmother being wheeled out by nurses.
Frantic, Sofia grabbed the doctor's hand, her voice trembling. "Doctor, what's happening to my grandmother?"
"You should ask your family. Some people came and said something to her. With her fragile health, it triggered a heart attack. We'll do our best," the doctor replied.
With that, the doctor and nurses rushed her grandmother into the operating room, leaving Sofia standing there, frozen.
Panic and determination surged through her. She started looking for the people the doctor mentioned. As she passed the stairwell, a strong force yanked her over.
Before she could scream, a cold knife pressed against her neck.
Sofia quickly realized it was Nolan's people. Who else would dare to do this in broad daylight?
The man in black, who seemed to be the leader, glared at her. "Nolan wants the info by tomorrow, or your grandma dies."
Sofia suppressed her fear. "You want me to see Reese, but she's not here. Where am I supposed to find her?"
"Nolan gave you some info. Reese is looking for someone named Calvin, who's investigating her grandmother's death. Tell Malcolm this, and maybe Reese will come back sooner," the man in black said.
Sofia was confused. "Doesn't Nolan want Reese gone? Why not take this chance?"
"Nolan said it's not time for Reese to die yet. Plus, she's not just anyone. Simple tricks won't work on her."
Their priority was finding Everhart's whereabouts. That was their main task now.
Sofia had no choice but to follow Nolan's orders. "But I can't leave now. I don't know how my grandmother is doing." She feared leaving her grandmother alone.
She hated these people but had no way to fight them. Otherwise, she would have wanted to kill them for aggravating her grandmother's condition.
Thinking of her grandmother, whose life was still uncertain, tore Sofia apart.
The man in black replied coldly, "That's your problem, not ours. Nolan just wants the answer." He moved the knife away from her neck.
Once they left, Sofia rushed to the operating room door. The four-hour wait felt like an eternity. Tension, worry, and fear wrapped around her heart like vines.
Finally, the light in the operating room went out. Sofia hurriedly stepped forward. "Doctor, how is my grandmother?"
