Chapter 570 Reese, Don't Hit Me
Stephen was fuming, but he had no outlet for his rage. Especially now, he couldn't risk ticking off Reese. She wasn't the same girl anymore.
This girl had a strong sense of justice. If he angered her, she would definitely clash with him again.
The Hawthorne Group had just started to steady itself, even though it was still a bit shaky, mainly 'cause she and the Flynn Group had jumped into the game.
Who knew what kind of business whizzes these two were? They'd just stepped into a new industry and were already killing it. It was mind-blowing.
Normally, it would take anyone five to ten years to get the hang of things, but they nailed it in under two months.
They even swiped a few projects from him.
Now he finally got what it meant to suffer in silence.
Reese saw Stephen still standing there, and her icy stare was running out of patience.
"Aren't you gonna call him down?"
It sounded polite enough, but with closer hearing, there was an edge to it.
Basically, it meant, not now, then never. However, it would come along with certain punishment from her for sure.
Stephen snapped back to reality, swallowed his anger, and told the servant. "Go upstairs and get Sebastian, tell him someone's here for him."
"Okay, I'll go get him now." The servant was shocked that Stephen was so scared of his own daughter, but Reese seemed indeed to be frightening, especially those eyes, which were glinting with wrath ready to destroy everthing. A glance would gave his heart a jolt.
It was wild that Stephen had such a badass daughter, but having such a strong daughter was also a big threat to him.
After the servant went upstairs to get Sebastian, Sebastian asked curiously, "Who's looking for me?"
No many people would come straight to the Hawthorne house to find him, as his friends knew his dad was super strict.
The servant replied, "It's Ms. Brooks."
Sebastian was momentarily puzzled. "Who's that?"
"The wife of Mr. Flynn." The servant didn't dare to directly say it was Stephen's daughter, as Stephen hadn't acknowledged her yet and she didn't want to change the address on her own.
Sebastian immediately got it and exclaimed.
"It's Reese!"
He tossed off the covers and bolted downstairs. Even Stephen in the living room could hear the thump, showing how pumped Sebastian was.
Stephen rubbed his forehead helplessly. How could his son act like this? It was just a sister, and one he had never met before.
He had never seen his father so excited.
As soon as Sebastian came downstairs, he saw Reese standing in the living room, grinning from ear to ear.
Sebstian asked, "Reese, why are you here? Did you come just to see me?"
Reese replied briskly, "Yeah, I need to talk to you."
Seeing Reese, Sebastian put on a even bigger smile.
Sebastian suggested, "Reese, let's go outside and chat."
"Of course." She didn't want to stick around the Hawthorne house either.
If Reese hadn't come specifically to find Sebastian, she wouldn't have set foot here. Did Stephen think she had nothing better to do than show up at his place?
Reese turned to leave with Sebastian, but Stephen called out, "When will you be back?"
Sebastian said briefly, "Later."
Now that Sebastian had his sister, he had already forgotten about his father.
Stephen's face darkened. He couldn't tell if he had a son for himself or for someone else.
Seeing Sebastian's fawning look, even as a father, he couldn't stand it.
After they stepped outside, Sebastian asked, "Reese, what do you need?"
"Can you help me find someone?"
"Nolan?" Sebastian hit the jackpot.
"How did you know?" Reese was surprised he figured it out so quickly.
"Recently, the cops have been looking for Nolan, and you used to hang out with him a lot."
Sebastian had done his homework on Reese. He knew what he could and would take his time to learn what he couldn't.
Reese liked talking to smart people because it took her little effort. "Can you have your teams search the nearby open areas?"
Nolan had been hiding nearby, which they hadn't expected, but now he wouldn't choose a nearby place.
It was pretty open around here with a grove nearby; Nolan might be hiding in those spots.
Sebastian knew why Reese had come to him. When they raced, they chose these open areas, and no one knew the terrain better than they did.
Sebastian said trustworthily, "I got it. Don't worry. Whether I find him or not, I'll handle this for you."
It was the first time Reese had asked him for help.
Reese, such a capable person, needed his help, which made him over the moon.
Reese patted his shoulder lightly. "Yeah, help me with this, and you can ask me for anything afterward."
"Really? Reese!" Sebastian didn't expect such a big reward for helping once. He had tried to get close to Reese before but failed because his sister was too guarded.
"Yeah, as long as it's reasonable and within my means." She wasn't so full of herself anyway.
"I get it. Don't worry, I won't make things tough for you. Reese, I really love you." Saying this, Sebastian excitedly hugged Reese and kissed her on the cheek, but quickly backed away, probably afraid Reese would hit him.
Reese frowned, her face turning cold, and she raised her hand, ready to smack Sebastian. "You little brat..."
Sebastian instinctively shielded his face with his hands. "Reese, don't hit me!"
Calvin, seeing this scene, couldn't help but laugh and teased, "Mr. Hawthorne, I heard you're quite the tough guy outside. None of your friends dare to challenge you. How come you're like a little lamb in front of Reese?"
Sebastian didn't mind at all and even thought it was normal. "How can it be the same? She's my sister! My real sister."
Sebastian's words made it clear that he genuinely liked Reese.
Anyone hearing this would feel incredibly happy and warm inside. Moreover, in the entire Hawthorne family, only Sebastian was kind to her. Even if Reese didn't care, his actions would still affect her.
