Chapter 537 Malcolm's Concern
Otis was stubborn, insisting, "No one sent me. It was my choice."
Calvin slapped him. "Do you even believe that? Jealous of Reese's looks, maybe?"
Louis couldn't stop laughing. Calvin's knack for spinning wild stories always cracked him up.
Calvin glared at Louis. "What's so funny? You think I'm lying? Reese is gorgeous. Is it crazy to think he's jealous? And this woman here, she must be jealous too. Why else go after Reese's eyes?"
Calvin's anger flared, and he kicked the unconscious Carol. She wouldn't feel it anyway. Otis stayed defiant. "No one sent me. Do what you want."
Reese noticed Otis's stubbornness. She sat calmly on a broken chair, steady as a rock.
"If I'm right, you're from the old 107," Reese said. This group was known for training elite, ruthless pros. Otis and Carol probably retired at forty, when the agency replaced them due to declining skills.
Reese had seen the 107 mark on Carol's sleeve during their fight. It was a unique symbol.
Otis stayed silent, but his face changed. Reese tried to reason with him. "You 107 folks only get paid while you're on the job. Once you're out, nothing. Whoever hired you must've paid a lot. Ever wonder why?"
"I know you were trained by Nolan. I can tell from your skills," Otis said.
Reese exchanged a look with Louis and grinned. "So, you admit it."
Louis tapped a stick in his hand. "Better confess, or it's gonna get rough."
Otis snorted, still stubborn. "So what if I admit it? What can you do knowing I'm from 107?"
Reese stayed calm, her presence strong despite her blindness. It made Otis uneasy. He'd never seen a woman with such power.
Was Reese really just Nolan's student? Didn't she have another identity?
Otis realized he wouldn't get paid. Despite her blindness, Reese's combat skills were sharp. He remembered the precise moment a silver needle hit his neck. Could an average person do that? Even with perfect vision, many would struggle.
Otis was about to spill the truth when Carol suddenly woke up, grabbed a knife, and lunged at Reese from behind.
Calvin and Louis were caught off guard, not expecting Carol to wake up.
In a split second, danger was upon them. But Reese sensed the threat, felt the breeze by her ear, and dodged Carol's blade with agile precision.
Carol was hell-bent on killing Reese, charging at her with deadly intent.
"Reese, watch out!" Calvin shouted, trying to rush over, but he was too far away.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, stunning everyone.
Carol froze, then collapsed.
Everyone turned to look behind them. Reese couldn't see, but Louis and Calvin recognized their savior.
Malcolm, in a suit, stood there, the cold wind blowing his hair wildly, giving him a fierce look.
"Mr. Flynn!" Calvin exclaimed.
Malcolm's gaze immediately fell on Reese. Seeing her with bandaged eyes, his fury was palpable.
Calvin glanced at Otis sympathetically. "You're all in big trouble now."
Hearing Malcolm's name, Reese's heart skipped a beat. Despite the tension, she remained steadfast. Knowing someone had come so far to find her stirred deep emotions.
It had been tough to get in, and she knew getting out wouldn't be easy either.
Malcolm ordered, "Tie them up and bring them back. I want to meet the mastermind personally."
Justin nodded. "Yes, sir!"
Justin quickly restrained Carol and Otis. Otis, seeing Malcolm's cold demeanor, realized they had messed with formidable adversaries.
The hope of making money now felt far off. Surviving this ordeal became their primary focus, a task that seemed increasingly impossible.
Especially since that shot hadn't killed Carol but had hit a spot just an inch from her heart. Such accuracy was something Otis had never seen before.
'Who is this man?' Otis wondered.
As Justin led Carol and Otis out, Calvin and Louis followed, leaving space for Malcolm and Reese.
Malcolm walked over to Reese and pulled her into his arms. "Honey, sorry I'm late."
Reese, caught off guard, was at a loss for words. "Aren't you supposed to be mad at me for coming so far without telling you?"
"Silly, I'm too worried about your safety to be mad. Besides, would my darling let someone be mad at you? If you got upset, I'd have to cheer you up," Malcolm said tenderly, patting her back.
His expression turned into a slight frown. "Why have you lost weight?"
Reese chuckled. "I've only been out for a day, and it's not even daylight yet. How could I have lost weight?"
Malcolm gripped her shoulders firmly. Though Reese couldn't see the concern in his eyes, she could hear it in his voice. His worry was clear, driven by genuine fear for her safety. It was this deep concern that had driven him to search tirelessly for her.
How could she not be moved? No one had ever cared so much about her safety, willing to drop everything to find her.
Malcolm's warm fingers gently touched Reese's eyes. "Honey, does it hurt?"
