Chapter 612 My Wife Can't Stand Gossip
"If we lose, we'll hand over the stocks we bought today," the two guys said.
Everyone else couldn't help but gasp.
"That's a bold move. If they sell those stocks, they could make a decent chunk of change."
"But seriously, how do you think you can win? Didn't you see the stocks that woman bought? Those companies barely make money on a good day, let alone now."
"Yeah, picking the two worst stocks is a guaranteed loss, maybe even a huge one!"
Almost nobody there believed in Reese.
Just then, Stephen and Kenneth showed up. Seeing the crowd, they thought something big was happening, only to find out it was all about Reese.
With her biological dad and foster dad both there, Reese felt a bit awkward.
Malcolm was the last to arrive. He'd already heard the chatter outside and had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
Honestly, the two stocks Reese picked had him scratching his head too. The companies hadn't turned a profit in two years and were just treading water.
Picking those stocks didn't seem smart.
But he trusted Reese had her reasons.
He'd promised to stand by her no matter what.
Malcolm spoke up, "I'm betting on her to win."
His appearance caused quite a stir.
"Isn't that Mr. Flynn from the Flynn Group? What's he doing here?"
"What's his connection to this woman? Why's he backing her?"
Someone next to Malcolm asked, "Mr. Flynn, you know she can't win, so why are you supporting her?"
"If I don't stand by my wife, who should I stand by? A bunch of strangers?" Malcolm shot back.
"Wait, she's your wife?"
The crowd buzzed again, "This gorgeous lady is Mr. Flynn's wife."
"No wonder she has the guts to buy two losing stocks. Rich folks can afford to be reckless."
"Yeah, no regular person would brag like that. Turns out she's got the Flynn family behind her."
"With the Flynn family backing her, what's there to worry about? They've got loads of cash."
Then the two sides started jeering and arguing, none of which helped Reese. Even Calvin had had enough.
He shouted at them, "Why do you care what stocks she buys or who she marries? At least she has someone backing her, unlike you lot who probably can't find anyone to support you."
But Reese pulled Calvin back. "No point wasting breath on these people. Let them talk; it doesn't affect us."
Sometimes Calvin really admired Reese's attitude. Anyone else would've started a fight by now.
Seeing Reese like this, Malcolm felt both a pang of heartache and a sense of relief.
He pulled Reese into his arms, his eyes like a hawk scanning the crowd with a powerful presence. "Call it bullying or threatening, but I won't let anyone badmouth my wife. Before you speak, think about whether you can actually take me on."
Malcolm's vibe was so intense that even the bravest folks didn't dare to challenge him.
The Flynn Group had been the top dog in Atlanta for years, untouchable.
Reese leaned into him, looking up. The sharpness in her eyes softened when she met his gaze. "I can handle this, you know. I don't let what these people say get to me."
Honestly, what these people did didn't matter to her.
She always said not to waste energy on people or things that didn't deserve it, for herself or others.
Malcolm's eyes narrowed, filled with pride. "No matter what you say, I just don't want you to be wronged. If I can't stand to see you wronged, why should I let others bully you?"
Reese's lips curved into a small smile, her heart feeling full.
Malcolm gently patted her shoulder, then turned to the two who had bet with Reese. "If we're betting, anyone can join, right? Who are these two?"
His words made the crowd laugh.
This was pure disdain. In their circle, these two weren't small fry; they should at least be notable in the industry.
Now being asked who they were was pretty embarrassing.
The two knew Malcolm's power and background, but they weren't pushovers either.
They confidently introduced themselves, "We're from SwiftTech and BrightWave."
Malcolm thought for a few seconds, as if trying to remember. "Oh, it's you two. I heard your companies haven't been doing well lately. Last month, BrightWave didn't sign a single contract, and SwiftTech's recent head was in the news for taking kickbacks, becoming a joke in the industry."
Calvin felt a rush of satisfaction for Reese. How could he miss the chance to pile on? "So that's it. I thought you two were something special. It's utterly shameful. One company is struggling, and the other has a scandal. How dare you walk around so boldly?"
The two men's faces turned red with embarrassment.
Reese glanced at her watch. "We'll know in ten minutes. Don't back out now, gentlemen."
With so many people watching, they couldn't afford to lose face; otherwise, how could they manage their subordinates in the future?
They both nodded.
"Fine, I don't believe you can win with those stocks."
"Right, we chose our stocks after thorough research. Mrs. Flynn, do you even understand the market? It's not as simple as grocery shopping."
Reese's eyes narrowed dangerously. "We'll see the results in ten minutes. Why waste so many words?"
