Chapter 448 Unforgivable
At this moment, Justin returned and whispered to Malcolm, "Mr. Flynn, we've found out that these people are trying to defame the hospital and then get a large compensation. They aren't usually very good to their father."
The key point was the last sentence.
If they weren't good to their father, it could very well lead to today's incident.
Justin's voice was just loud enough for the family members to hear.
The man started causing trouble again. "This is pure slander. If we really weren't good to my dad, why would we send him to such a good hospital?"
Malcolm's lips tightened, curling into a disdainful smile.
"Precisely because a big hospital can pay more if someone dies." He exposed their scheme directly.
The family members weren't fools. Seeing that they could get a huge sum of money, they were shocked that these people had seen through them. Even more astonishing was that this woman had actually saved her father.
He believed that only a few people knew about these plans. As long as they didn't speak, these people couldn't produce any evidence.
The man said, "You sound so sure and even went to investigate. Show us the evidence then."
"Getting evidence is easy," Malcolm turned to Justin, "Give him the evidence."
Justin took a few sheets of paper from the file and held them up in front of the family.
"These are the signatures you took your father to the notary to sign, planning to inherit his estate after he passed away. Also, these are the results from other hospitals. You indeed concealed information from the hospital, leading to an allergic reaction to the medication." All the evidence was laid out in front of them, leaving them speechless.
The family members immediately panicked. No one expected that just trying to get some compensation would alarm such important people.
They could also see that this distinguished man was definitely here for that woman.
With so much money, why would he come to the hospital and block their financial gain?
If it weren't for Malcolm, they might have gotten the money.
Thomas, seeing the evidence, directly said to the doctor beside him, "Call the police and handle it according to the proper procedures."
"Yes, I'll do it right now," the doctor replied.
The family members immediately panicked. "No, please. Don't call the police. We apologize."
The few people who had argued with Reese earlier completely changed their attitude. "We're sorry, it's all our fault. Please, don't call the police. We didn't do it on purpose. It's just that other hospitals said my dad's illness couldn't be cured. Our family is very poor, and urgently needing money. We had no choice but to resort to this."
However, in Reese's view, none of this justified their despicable means to get money.
"If you knew the consequences, you shouldn't have done it in the first place. Regretting now is too late. Do you know how much impact you've had on the hospital? Sorry, if it were something else, maybe we could discuss it. But in this matter, there's no room for negotiation." Reese's attitude was firm, not just because of the family's actions, but more because they didn't understand that she nearly lost her life retrieving this medication. Now it had become a means for others to cheat money.
She couldn't tolerate it.
Seeing Reese unwilling to relent, the family members turned to Malcolm. Since this person had such a distinguished identity, he surely wouldn't stoop to their level.
The man kept pushing the woman. "Go quickly."
The woman was easier to negotiate with Malcolm than the man.
But when the woman saw Malcolm's gloomy face, she hesitated and didn't dare to approach. "I... I won't go!"
"If you don't go, we're finished!" the man shouted.
As he spoke, the man slapped the woman hard, knocking her to the ground.
Reese frowned deeply, not expecting the man to hit a woman.
The woman lay on the ground, crying pitifully. "You came up with this idea, and now you want me to solve the problem."
Hearing this, the man turned pale with fear. He bent down to hit the woman again but was stopped by Reese. "You're really something, hitting a woman!"
The man turned his head. Hearing a cold, piercing female voice, he felt a strange fear. It was just a woman, but he was scared of her.
He shouted angrily at Reese, "Watch out, or I'll hit you too. Get out..."
Before he could finish, Reese's eyes flashed coldly, her lips curled into a bloodthirsty smile. She grabbed the man's wrist, twisted it lightly, and lifted her knee, precisely kicking his stomach. The stomach is very sensitive, and even a light impact causes great pain.
Reese didn't want to make a move, but this man had a foul mouth.
Seeing her husband beaten, the woman hurriedly got up from the ground to help him. "Are you okay, honey?"
Then she turned and screamed at Reese, who had helped her. "This hospital is outrageous. Medical staff dare to hit people. I will hold the hospital accountable."
Reese was stunned. She had helped the woman, but instead, she was being cursed.
Reese sneered disdainfully. "It seems you've gotten used to this man treating you like this."
Some people are forced into the abyss, but some willingly and happily stay there.
Malcolm knew Reese was being kind today. If it weren't for the fact that they were both women, she might not have intervened. In the past, she would have chosen to ignore it.
But it wasn't Reese's fault. It was the couple's fault. Some people just don't deserve help.
Malcolm stepped forward, his warm hand firmly holding Reese's shoulder. "Honey, there's nothing more for us to do here. Grandpa Robert will handle the rest. Let's go."
Reese's eyes returned to usual cold and quiet state. She withdrew her gaze indifferently. "Okay."
She didn't want to stay in such a noisy place, affecting her mood.
Thomas then walked up to Reese and bowed to her in front of everyone.
"Thank you so much today, Reese. You saved the hospital's reputation and the honor of us doctors," Thomas said.
They weren't afraid of failure, hard work, or working tirelessly day and night. What they feared most was not being understood by the families. Despite their best efforts, they were still misunderstood as harming people intentionally.
If it weren't for Reese today, the whole hospital might have been dragged down, and the patient might not have been saved.
Reese quickly helped Thomas up. "Grandpa Robert, there's no need to be so polite with me. This is not just for you but also for myself. I brought this medication back. I won't allow anyone to defame it or use improper means to achieve other goals. This is unforgivable!"
As Reese said this, her fierce gaze fell on the couple, scaring them into stumbling back a few steps, quickly averting their eyes.
