Chapter 400 There's a Camera on Me

The man in the duckbill cap was stunned, as he didn't think it would end this way.
Reese knew these people had no credibility. As a parting shot, she added, "If you don't follow my instructions, I'll just hand over today's video to the police."

The man in the duck-billed cap suddenly laughed, as if he had regained his confidence.

"Are you kidding me? How could you have a video? Haven't you just..."

"I don't have it here, but there's a camera on me."

With that, Reese tore off a button from her collar. If not observed closely, the camera is almost invisible.

The man in the duck-billed cap was cursing himself inwardly. If he had known Reese would be so difficult to deal with, they wouldn't have taken this job.

They were about to land themselves in hot water.

What else could they do? They couldn't afford to be caught and thrown in jail; after all, they had kidnapped someone for real.

The man in the duck-billed cap could only grit his teeth and say, "Okay, we agree, but you have to give us some of the money. Who knows if you'll run off later."

Reese knew they weren't trustworthy. She had to be smarter.

Reese wasn't afraid of them running away. Finding them later would be too easy.

Reese tossed a card onto the ground. "Here's fifty thousand. You'll get the rest when the job's done. And you better find out who else is behind her."

With Natalie's financial status, she couldn't possibly come up with this much money on her own. There had to be someone else pulling the strings behind her.

The man in the duck-billed cap agreed. "Okay."

Reese walked over and took hold of the trembling Sophia. "You okay?"

"I'm fine."

Despite her words, Sophia was terrified. Her legs were still weak. She had never witnessed such a scene before. Sophia had always thought these things only happened in TV dramas, never in real life.

The last time Reese fought with that woman's henchmen, though unbelievable, there were only three opponents, and Reese was formidable. But this time...

Sophia scanned the crowd of people sprawled on the ground. There must have been at least twenty of them, all knocked down by Reese.

Sophia had witnessed Reese's skill firsthand. Each blow was deadly, striking directly at vital points, leaving no room for retaliation.

Reese helped Sophia to the car and then noticed a cut on Sophia's forehead. It looked deep, probably from the scuffle with those people earlier.

Let's get to the pharmacy and get patched up, okay?

Sophia was still a bit dazed. She instinctively reached out to touch her forehead, but Reese stopped her.

"Don't touch it. You might get an infection."

"Reese, thank you for today. If it weren't for you, I might have..."

"It's not your fault. As I said, they were after me. You just happened to be close to me at the company."

Reese was relieved that Sophia hadn't been seriously hurt. Otherwise, she would have felt guilty.

Reese didn't like causing trouble for others, and she certainly didn't want others to cause trouble for her.

As Sophia sat in the car, slowly recovering, she remembered the kidnappers. She turned to Reese and asked, "Was it Natalie Spencer who sent those men?"

"Yes, only her. If it were someone else, they wouldn't know how close we are at the company."

Natalie also knew that if she wanted to lure Reese over, it wouldn't be easy. That's why she needed an intermediary. After all, no one would just leave a person's life hanging there.

Just mentioning Natalie ignited a fire of anger in Sophia.

"How can someone be so malicious? We were colleagues once. Even if she left the company, there was no need for this. And to think she wanted to tarnish your reputation! Isn't she afraid of going to jail?"

Reese scoffed, "Someone like her isn't afraid of jail. They've already crossed that line. Some people are like that, lacking the courage but still doing such things. Little do they know, once things go awry, they won't be able to handle the consequences."

Malcolm noticed Reese hadn't returned yet, so he called her.

Reese glanced at the phone—it was Malcolm. She slid to answer and put it to her ear.

"Hello."

Why haven't you come back yet? Did you run into some trouble, honey?

"Nothing much, just a minor issue that's been sorted out. I'll tell you about it when I get back. Gotta hang up for now."

Sophia was in the car, and it wasn't convenient for Reese to go into detail about the matter.

After ending the call, Sophia cautiously asked, "Reese Brooks, it's late. Did Mr. Flynn have something to discuss with you?"

From Reese's tone, Sophia didn't get the sense it was a business talk with Mr. Flynn.

It sounded more like two people intimately discussing when to head home.

But Sophia didn't dare speculate recklessly. Surely they couldn't have any kind of relationship, right? Just the thought made Sophia's scalp tingle, and she dismissed it.

Still, she couldn't resist asking, "Reese Brooks, you and Mr. Flynn aren't... involved romantically, are you?"

"No," Reese replied.

Sophia breathed a sigh of relief. "That's what I thought. How could you two possibly..."

"We are married."

"What?"

Sophia's reaction was as if she'd seen a ghost. She almost doubted her own ears, wondering if she had misheard.

Reese didn't repeat herself; she knew Sophia had heard correctly, but she just didn't want to believe it.

It took Sophia a few minutes to recover.

"Are you two really married? But you never mentioned it before."

Reese chuckled lightly. "If I had said it earlier, do you think those female colleagues at the office would have wanted to devour me?"

Sophia had a sudden realization. "It seems likely."

She was well aware of the jealousy among the women in the office; they couldn't stand to see anyone doing better than them.

"I hope you won't mention this to anyone," Reese said, not wanting to invite unnecessary trouble.

Sophia hastily waved her hands. "Don't worry, I definitely won't say a word."

Reese had told Sophia because she saw her willingness to help even in such a frightening situation, proving Sophia had a good heart and was loyal.

Even after spending a long time with someone, appearances could be deceiving. It was important to see how they acted in difficult situations. Reese had encountered many who would stab you in the back at the first opportunity.

"Okay, I trust you. Let's get you back home after we buy the medicine. You don't have to worry about this matter; I'll handle it," Reese assured her.

"But what if Natalie tries to retaliate against you? Maybe we should just forget about it, Reese Brooks. After all, they didn't succeed," Sophia suggested, still feeling afraid. She feared Natalie might retaliate against them since the enemy was lurking in the shadows while they were in the open.
