Chapter 224: The Realization
Calvin found himself shaking his head in disbelief, his tongue clicking against his teeth as he muttered, "That's just brutal." The project that Reese had been nurturing for so long, dedicating countless hours and an immeasurable amount of effort, had been mercilessly hijacked. The thought was infuriating enough to make Calvin seethe, but what could he do? A confrontation with Malcolm was unthinkable. He could only suggest to Reese, "Maybe we should move onto another project, Reese. Trying to reclaim this one seems tough, and it might even blow your cover."However, Reese was far from ready to abandon ship. She would rather discard her previous work than lose the 'Violet' robot project. "Let's just wait and see for now," she said, understanding that if she couldn't retain it, there was nothing more she could do.Calvin, swamped with tasks and with Reese adding more assignments to his already teetering pile, sighed, "I've got to run some errands then." "Okay," Reese responded, hanging up the phone. She found herself lost in thought, pondering her next move. How could she extract the information from Malcolm?P Was she supposed to just stand by helplessly?Just then, Malcolm emerged from his study, heading straight for his room. He looked slightly puzzled upon seeing Reese. "Couldn't sleep, or... just woke up?" he asked, noticing that Reese hadn't been awake for long. In Malcolm's presence, she had to tread carefully—getting caught would be too embarrassing. With a resolute sigh, Reese fired up her laptop, pulling up the documents she had prepared in advance. "I was considering what Mr. Adam from Prospera Ventures mentioned about the robotics project," she began casually. "He's looking for a partner, and I was thinking about the gentleman I met at the ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday—your friend. I wonder if he'd be interested in collaborating."Malcolm's gaze upon Reese grew inquisitive. "From what you're saying, you're looking to secure this project?" he asked, catching the unmistakable glint of desire in Reese's eyes. "If I actually land this deal, I'm looking at a hefty payday," Reese admitted, unable to hide her love for money. Any venture involving a potential financial gain captured her interest without fail.Malcolm chuckled at Reese's candid admission, a fondness nearly spilling from his gaze. "My wife is surprisingly independent, not wanting to spend her husband's money. Suddenly, it looks like I'm not much use to her, except for maybe..."As he spoke, he closed the distance between them and, catching her off-guard, pressed a quick kiss to her soft lips. Reese, taken aback, looked at him in confusion. Didn't he think to give her a heads-up before such an ambush?Malcolm hadn't anticipated that this kiss would leave him wanting more. Wrapping his arms around Reese's waist, he deepened their embrace. Though Reese understood the basics, she had little experience and let Malcolm guide her through the motions. She hadn't expected to be so captivated by the experience, her body a blend of softness against his. His breath filled her senses, her eyes became hazy, her lips parted, and her breathing turned shallow. She didn't even register the moment he laid her on the bed until his weight pressed upon her, and their body heat surged.Looking down at her, Malcolm's heart melted at the sight of the blushing beauty below him. He tenderly kissed every inch of her skin, his touch overwhelming Reese to the point where her mind felt like it was about to explode. He rarely saw such a tender, fluid side of Reese, reserved only for moments of intimacy where she didn't hold back her emotions. Her shy demeanor ignited an even stronger possessive desire within him. "You can't show this face to anyone else, you know? It's just for me," he whispered, kissing her forehead.Of course, Reese was unaware of how enticing she looked. If it weren't for the fear of hurting her, Malcolm would have loved to meld her into his very being. The next day, Reese woke late, only to find the marks Malcolm left on her neck and chest in the bathroom mirror, vividly bringing back the night's memories. Her cheeks flushed with a sudden warmth as she splashed her face with cold water, trying to distract herself from those consuming thoughts. But she had to admit, his skills made it dangerously easy to get lost in him.Later, finding Malcolm still asleep, Reese was struck with an idea. If his computer was still accessible in his office, this could be her chance to uncover the answers she sought—without a trace. Reese suspected that Malcolm had somehow snagged the project, though she couldn't be sure. If it wasn't him, there might still be a chance to snatch it back. With determination, she decided to act swiftlyDressed and alert, Reese stepped out, scanning her surroundings before swiftly slipping into the home office. She powered up the computer, only to be greeted by a password prompt. She had cracked Malcolm's password before, trying his birthday and other likely numbers, but no luck. Almost by a fluke, the screen suddenly welcomed her in. The mix of surprise and excitement she felt was beyond words.Reese hesitated for a moment, feeling a twinge of guilt for snooping. Yet her pride prevailed; she had poured so much time into this project, giving up now seemed unbearable. Ultimately, it was her curiosity, not malice driving her. She simply had to know where Malcolm got his information. But there it was—a password request reappeared, when she tried to open a document. Frustration gripped her. It wasn't her birthday, so what was it? She contemplated cracking it, but knew well that Malcolm was smart enough to notice any trace she left behind.Unknown to Reese, Malcolm had awoken. After looking around without finding her, he got out of bed and opened the door to the home office, separated by a mere wall from his room.Reese, with her keen hearing, instantly heard the sound. Her reflexes kicked in, and she quickly closed the laptop. The shutdown process wasn't lightning fast. Her nerves were on edge, her heart pounding as if it might leap from her chest.Malcolm paused at the door to the office, his senses alert. He remembered he still had to send some documents to Justin. He reached for the doorknob and turned it...
