Chapter 402 You're the One Who Harmed Yourself
Malcolm's eyes softened, habitually reaching out to rub Reese's head with an unmistakable indulgence in his eyes. "It's up to you, but if there's anything wrong, you should tell me. Don't bear it alone."
"Okay, I got it, honey."
Reese now felt very happy, being cared for and looked after. Who would refuse such a feeling?
Malcolm lightly patted Reese's head. "Go take a bath and rest. It's late, and I have some things to take care of before bed."
"Okay, if you need help, just let me know," Reese said.
A husband and wife should help each other. If it weren't for helping Reese, Malcolm might not be working overtime.
After Reese went upstairs, Malcolm's previously gentle gaze instantly turned dark. He took out his phone and called Justin.
Justin respectfully asked, "Mr. Flynn, what can I do for you?"
"I need you to investigate Natalie Spencer. Find out who's pulling the strings on her. How many people are involved in this matter? Leave no stone unturned."
Justin didn't quite understand. "What happened?"
"Today, Reese went out and was ambushed. They kidnapped Sophia Martin to lure her out. Although nothing happened, I don't want this kind of thing to happen again. Look into it."
Upon hearing this, Justin exclaimed, "Who would dare to kidnap Mrs. Flynn without caring about the consequences? Is he crazy?"
Justin had seen Reese's skills with his own eyes. Taking on ten opponents was no problem for her. Unless you were a trained professional, trying to fight Reese was like volunteering to be her punching bag.
Malcolm remained silent, but Justin could clearly sense that something was off.
Justin hurriedly apologized over the phone. "Sorry, Mr. Flynn, I said too much."
"Go check it out quickly, don't waste my time here with your chatter."
Clearly, Malcolm was running out of patience.
"Understood." Justin hung up the phone.
Reese still felt uneasy after taking a shower. She made a video call to Calvin.
Calvin received the video call, looking like he was just about to sleep, appearing tired and yawning.
"Reese, what's up?"
"Tomorrow, have Louis assign two people to follow Sophia Martin. Things have been a bit troublesome these days, and I'm afraid someone might harm her because of me."
"Sophia Martin? Your colleague?" Calvin seemed to vaguely recall the name, as Reese had few friends besides those she knew at the Flynn Group.
"Yes, she's in trouble because of me."
It was fine if Reese got into trouble, but she didn't want others to get dragged into it.
Calvin naturally understood. "I'll take care of it right away."
Malcolm soon arrived just as Reese ended the call. Pushing the door open, he could see what was on Reese's mind without asking.
"Are you still worried about Sophia? Do you think Natalie might cause problems for her?"
"I don't really care about me, and she can't harm me at all. It's just that Sophia lives alone and is an only child. Women should not be underestimated, especially when they are emotional. They can easily do something extreme."
"Should I have someone help keep an eye on her?"
Reese shook her head. "No need. I already have someone watching over her."
"In that case, it's fine. We must resolve the situation with Natalie. Don't let it drag on and cause more problems."
Malcolm was also impatient, especially with issues that had long been brewing. It was best to solve them early.
On Natalie's end, a few men in duckbill caps took advantage of her by asking her for money to begin their plan. Natalie was still shocked until they took her to an isolated place, and fear began to set in.
"What are you going to do? Have you lost your mind? Don't you want money anymore?"
The man in the duckbill cap still had injuries on his face, and his brothers weren't in good shape either. Many were harboring anger.
The man in the duckbill cap tapped Natalie's cheek with a sharp and cold knife. "You wanted to hurt us, didn't you? Making us go after a woman with such skills almost got my brother crippled."
Natalie hadn't known their plan had failed. She thought they had successfully captured Reese and were coming to show her the photos, but things turned out differently.
However, Shirley had indeed mentioned to her that Reese was skilled and advised Natalie to hire more people without worrying about the expense.
Natalie thought that even with her great skills, Reese couldn't possibly take on a dozen men. Now, it seemed she had underestimated Reese's abilities.
What kind of monster was she?
"Since you didn't succeed, why are you coming to me? We agreed earlier that unless you succeed, there's no reason to ask me for money. Are you trying to back out now?"
The man in the duckbill cap sneered slyly. "You're mistaken. We're not here for money. We're here for payback."
He gestured to the man behind him, who threw a card on the ground.
"We don't want your money."
The job and the pay wasn't worth it if it caused them to get beaten up like this.
Natalie couldn't understand their intentions. "If you don't want money, why bring me here?"
The man in a peaked cap smirked ominously. "We don't want your money, but we can't just take a beating for free, right? Let me make it clear, someone has spent more money than you, so we're returning your previous demands to you intact."
Natalie exclaimed, "Was it Reese Brooks? Are you all out of your minds?"
The man suddenly became furious, bending down to fiercely grab Natalie's chin.
"We are out of our minds. You didn't tell us how capable this woman really was beforehand, causing so many of my men to suffer losses under my command. I'm being generous by not asking you to pay for our medical expenses."
If their gang had known how skilled Reese was, even if they were offered two hundred thousand dollars, they wouldn't have wanted to take on this job.
Natalie was now a bit scared, but what she didn't expect was that Reese would come up with such a method to deal with her. Reese was indeed ruthless.
Natalie shrank back. "What do you want to do? Don't mess around, or I'll call the police!"
"Call the police? Do you have a phone on you? Ms. Spencer, don't blame us. You brought this on yourself."
The man gave instructions to the others. "Go ahead, take the photos. The money will be ours."
The brothers behind the man in the peaked cap couldn't wait any longer, rubbing their hands in anticipation. Soon, a series of screams echoed in the empty space.
