Chapter 349 Is There Such a Person
"Don't worry, Miss Brooks. I'll handle it flawlessly," Louis said confidently before getting down to business. He found out where Aiden was at the moment and went there with Reese.
When they found Aiden, he was dancing in the bar, with a woman in his arms. Louis patted him on the shoulder. Just as Aiden was about to regain his senses, he felt something sharp against his waist and quickly realized what it was.
"What... what are you doing?"
"We need to talk. Come with us," Louis said. His look was menacing, a stark contrast to his usual gentle demeanor with Reese.
Although Aiden didn't know who they were, he was scared.
"Alright, I'll come with you. Just don't hurt me," Aiden said nervously.
Reese didn't expect Aiden to be so fearful. Without them even making a move, Aiden was already panicking. It seemed like this interrogation would go smoother than anticipated.
As they walked out, Aiden smiled awkwardly at Reese and Louis.
"Look, I can't run from you. Can you please put that away?" Aiden said, pointing to the sharp object.
Reese signaled Louis to release him, and they led Aiden to a secluded alley.
Aiden looked at Reese, feeling a sense of familiarity, but he couldn't recall where he had seen her before.
Reese appeared because she had been out of the organization for a few years. Aiden had joined the Harmony Alliance recently, so he wouldn't recognize her.
Louis pressed Aiden against the wall, his strong arm pressing on Aiden's neck.
"The business deal Harmony Alliance lost was leaked by you, right? What else do you know? Tell us everything," Louis demanded.
Upon hearing this, Aiden chuckled, realizing the purpose of their visit.
"So, you're here for this. You must be part of the organization too," Aiden remarked.
"Whether we are part of the organization is none of your concern. Just tell us the truth, or we'll have ways to ensure Harmony Alliance knows about your betrayal. You know the organization's methods. If they find out you're a traitor, it won't be easy for you to walk away alive," Louis threatened and applied more pressure with his arm. Aiden tried to struggle, but Louis's foot pinned him down, rendering him immobile.
"You'd better tell us the truth, or you're not going to have a pleasant night," added Louis.
Aiden realized he'd messed with people he shouldn't have. He noticed the woman next to them. Her gaze was particularly menacing, indicating she was not someone to be trifled with. Regardless, Aiden needed to get through the night first.
Aiden was known in the Harmony Alliance for his cunning and sharp wit.
"I'll tell you everything. But you have to let me go first. It's hard to speak like this," Aiden said, trying to buy some time.
Reese saw through Aiden's attempts and allowed Louis to release him.
She lit a cigarette, exuding a somewhat rogue-like demeanor.
"Don't worry. We won't breathe a word of what you tell us. But if you don't speak the truth today and waste our time, you might meet your end tonight," Reese warned.
Aiden retorted, "Are you suggesting you might kill me?"
Reese waved her hand, her smile cold and dismissive, chilling to Aiden.
"You're mistaken. We won't get our hands dirty. However, we have evidence that could prove you're a spy for the Harmony Alliance. If I hand over this information, they would surely thank me for eliminating a traitor, right?" Reese questioned.
Aiden felt a sense of unease creeping in but maintained a facade of composure.
"I'm not a spy for the Harmony Alliance. Stop slandering me!" Aiden protested.
"Louise, explain to him. Let's see if we're lying," Reese instructed.
"A month ago, you leaked Harmony Alliance's plans to the enemy, resulting in a significant loss for the organization. You profited from it, but Harmony Alliance suffered. There's more. Lately, you've been in contact with your next employer, setting up a chance to strike when Harmony Alliance launches their next move. That would cost the Harmony Alliance heavily again. By then, even if they discover you, it'd be too late because you've already plan to jump ship. You've also been in contact with Nolan's people, trying to sell information. Do you want me to reveal the name of the person you've been in touch with from Nolan's side?" Louis revealed.
As Louis spoke, Aiden's anxiety grew. Reese noticed his fear and decided to push a bit further.
"Aiden, after spending so much time in the Harmony Alliance, you should know how they deal with traitors. Think carefully about your next move," Reese warned.
Aiden shuddered at the thought of Harmony Alliance's brutal methods. He realized he had no way out and reluctantly decided to cooperate with the two in front of him.
"Fine, I'll tell you everything I know, but you must promise not to betray me," Aiden conceded.
"Of course, betraying you wouldn't benefit us either," Louis assured sincerely, his trustworthy demeanor making it hard to discern if he was being deceptive.
Aiden said, "Harmony Alliance has been in disarray internally. They're after this project to boost their finances because they have reliable intel that Nolan's group is eyeing a big deal next month. Naturally, Harmony Alliance wants a piece of the pie and plans to use the profits from this deal for investment. They've even established contact with Nolan's side. If Harmony Alliance secures it, Nolan's financial shortfall will cause instability, and that's when Harmony Alliance will strike."
Reese was unaware of Nolan's upcoming major activity, but she knew their dealings were far from legitimate, having made a fortune from underground activities.
"Do you know what Nolan's secret is?"
Aiden could read between the lines of Reese's query and sensed something was off.
"Wait, whose side are you on, anyway? You're prying into Nolan's affairs and grilling me about Harmony Alliance."
"That's none of your business. Just tell me the truth."
Reese could tell Aiden was clever, but he relied on petty smarts. Besides, his narrow vision limited his prospects. Men like Aiden, who betrayed their own for profit, were never well-received or valued anywhere. There were no shortcuts in life; every path was forged by one's own steps. Even without them, Aiden was destined for a grim end.
Feeling the intensity of Reese's glare and realizing how far the conversation had gone, Aiden saw no reason to provoke them further.
"I don't know about Nolan's side. Honestly, I was just trying to make some money; nothing more."
With Aiden's response, Reese wasn't convinced—knowing how guarded Nolan was, never fully trusting even those closest to him, which was how he had maintained control over his organization for so long.
"Alright, one last question. Does your organization recognize this person?"
As she spoke, Reese showed Aiden a photo of Malcolm on her phone.
