Chapter 568 You Actually Kept It from Me

On her way, she ripped open the envelope Reese had given her. Yeah, it might actually be something that could save her skin.

When she walked in, the place was empty.

No surprise there, Nolan had been MIA for a while. That sneaky bastard was always one step ahead.

But now, with no one around, what was she supposed to do?

Just as Sofia was freaking out, someone from Nolan's crew called.

She swiped to answer, "Yo, what's up?"

"Head back now. I'll hit you up in a couple of days. And listen, if you even think about teaming up with Reese's crew, you can start planning your grandma's funeral."

Sofia's gut told her something was seriously off.

"What the hell do you mean by that?"

"Don't play dumb. You know exactly what I mean."

Nolan's creepy laugh echoed through the phone.

A shiver ran down Sofia's spine, and she couldn't help but yell, "What did you do to my grandma?"

"Why don't you call and find out?" Nolan sneered before hanging up.

"What the...!"

Sofia screamed into the phone, but all she got was the cold, dead beeping sound.

Her legs buckled, and she crumpled to the floor, pale as a ghost.

Her phone was tapped; she couldn't call anyone, and asking Reese for help was out of the question.

Nolan had told her to call and find out for herself.

Sofia quickly pulled out her phone and dialed the hospital.

After what felt like forever, someone finally picked up, and she blurted out, "Doctor, where's my grandma?"

"Wasn't your grandma taken out for a walk by two women who said they were your sisters?"

Sofia's heart skipped a beat. "I don't have any sisters!"

Realizing her outburst, she quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, doctor. I... I just got really emotional."

"It's okay. If those two seem shady, you should call the cops right away."

"Got it, thanks."

Hanging up, Sofia clutched her forehead in despair. Calling the cops was pointless. This was clearly Nolan's doing. If she called the police, it would only make things worse for her and her grandma.

She had no choice but to wait for Nolan to reach out.

Her grandma's safety was all that mattered now.

Meanwhile, Reese was getting antsy from the radio silence.

Calvin had everything set up, just waiting to nab Nolan, but there was no word from Sofia.

And they couldn't call her either, since her phone was probably bugged.

Calvin sat there, bored out of his mind.

"Reese, you think your friend sold you out?"

"Probably not. She might just be unable to reach me. Calvin, can you check if her grandma's still at the hospital?"

Calvin's eyes lit up at the chance to do something. "Do I need to go there? I can check from here."

Then Reese watched as Calvin straight-up hacked into the hospital's system, checked Sofia's grandma's records, and pulled up the surveillance footage.

Calvin turned to Reese, "Yo, Reese, your friend's grandma ain't in the ward anymore, but she hasn't been discharged either."

Reese's suspicion went through the roof.

She frowned and leaned in to look at the screen. The ward was empty.

Sofia's grandma hadn't been discharged but was missing. No way Sofia took her out; the old lady was too sick for that. They'd checked before and knew she wasn't in any shape to leave..

If it wasn't Sofia, then it had to be someone else.

And everyone knew who that someone was.

Nolan.

Reese felt a pang of regret. "If we'd known Nolan would pull this crap, we should've slapped a tracker on Sofia's grandma. Then he wouldn't have a chance to slip away."

Calvin sighed, "So, we're just gonna sit tight and wait for Sofia to show up?"

"Yeah, Nolan's too slick. If we tip him off now, it could be really bad for Sofia. If things go south, it could be a disaster."

This wasn't just any problem; it was life and death.

Calvin sighed again, "So, should I just hang around here today?"

He'd come because Reese had called him in, but now there was nothing to do.

"Yeah, I think Sofia will find a way to reach out. She's got no other choice now."

With her grandma in Nolan's hands, there was no way she could side with him anymore.

"Alright, got it."

Calvin had been about to bring up something about Reese's grandma's cause of death, but seeing her current state, he decided to hold off.

He'd wait for a better time to bring it up.

Just then, Malcolm called, "Has Sofia contacted you?"

"She's in some deep trouble and can't reach us right now. We don't know where she is, and we can't track her."

They were worried Nolan might be tracking her, and her phone might be bugged, which could blow her cover and put her in danger.

So they chose to trust Sofia.

Malcolm didn't seem worried at all, "Don't sweat it, I've got a plan."

Reese frowned, "What?"

Could Malcolm really have a solution?

"I put a tracker on Sofia's necklace when she left. She doesn't know about it. It's super discreet, almost invisible, so it's hard to detect."

Reese was taken aback, "When did you do that? Why didn't I know?"

"If you knew, you would've told Sofia. If Sofia knew she had a tracker, she'd freak out if she ran into Nolan."

Malcolm's voice was calm, no panic, no tension. Dealing with someone like Nolan, he had to be fully prepared.

Reese immediately got his point.

But...

"Why'd you keep it from me, too? I almost had Calvin search the whole city."

Malcolm's deep voice was soothing. "Didn't I do a good job of keeping it secret? If you knew and then Sofia found out, she wouldn't be able to stay cool around Nolan."

"That's true, but have you found out where she is now?"
