Chapter 401 Telling the Truth

Sophia didn't understand Reese's character. She wasn't the kind of person who would tolerate being bullied or fear retaliation. If Natalie dared to retaliate, Reese would give her a harsh lesson, ensuring she never dared to provoke her again.

"Don't worry, if she dares to retaliate, I'll make sure she never works in this industry again," Reese replied.

If Natalie still wouldn't back down this time, Reese would really have no choice. She would be digging her own grave, and no one could stop her.

Sophia truly admired Reese's fearless temperament. As someone who lacked courage, Sophia was afraid Natalie might find someone else to harm her.

Reese exuded a strong aura, as if she wouldn't let the others take advantage of her. No one could take advantage of her, even if it meant fighting to the death.

It was a temperament that Sophia couldn't hope to have.

Reese sent Sophia home. Knowing that Sophia was timid, she reassured her a couple of times.

"It's me they're going after now, they won't bother you again. Don't worry."

"Thank you, Reese."

"Go home and rest well."

Reese watched Sophia enter her home before returning to the Flynn family.

Upon stepping through the threshold, Reese spotted Malcolm sitting in the living room, surrounded by papers on the table. He clearly hadn't finished his work. However, she wondered why he had suddenly come downstairs.

Reese approached, swinging the car keys, her face calm. "Why are you working down here instead of upstairs?"

"It's so I can see you as soon as you come back home. It's already late," Malcolm replied, pointing to his wristwatch with a hint of displeasure.

Reese knew it was already late and understood Malcolm's concern for her safety.

She reached out, encircling Malcolm's neck with her hand, whispering in his ear.

"I just dropped Sophia Martin off home," she explained.

"What kept you both so busy for this long?" Malcolm inquired, detecting the scent of blood on Reese.

Not wanting Malcolm to worry and considering it a minor issue, Reese chose not to elaborate. "We were just chatting, nothing serious."

Malcolm wasn't angry. He was merely holding Reese's arm, his warm fingertips gently caressing it, his voice low with a hint of inquiry. "Honey, be honest with me."

Upon hearing this, Reese knew Malcolm had sensed something. Continuing to lie at this point seemed unwise. In fact, Reese had just been hopeful that he wouldn't ask. She didn't truly believe she could deceive Malcolm.

They were both remarkably perceptive in many ways, able to detect any slight anomaly in each other's behavior.

Trying to deceive the other was not an easy task.

"Alright, I'll tell you," Reese said, lightly patting Malcolm's arm to ask him to release her.

Malcolm let go, and Reese sat beside him, honestly recounting the events. Malcolm, however, furrowed his brow, appearing far from relaxed.

"Why didn't you tell me about this? You clearly sensed something was amiss before leaving. Why didn't you inform me? What if there was an ambush when you had Sophia with you?" Malcolm questioned Reese.

Unexpectedly, in just a few hours, Reese had gotten into a physical altercation while Malcolm had been busy working at home.

Reese knew Malcolm was worried about her, but she felt his concern was unnecessary.

Holding Malcolm's serious and handsome face, she took the initiative to kiss him, patiently trying to reassure him.

"You've forgotten who I am. Those insignificant ants can't hurt me. Even if ten more come, it's not a problem."

She recalled her past encounters with even more formidable opponents, who were professionally trained and potentially lethal. Reese had managed to survive in adverse conditions. To her, these were just minor scuffles, nothing to worry about.

Malcolm's anger dissipated as Reese kissed him, leaving only tenderness and concern in his heart.

He embraced Reese, his furrowed brow relaxing momentarily.

"I worry about you too. If something unexpected happens, I could help you deal with it."

On the other hand, Malcolm genuinely feared losing Reese. He knew he couldn't bear such a loss, especially considering Reese's past profession. He was more anxious because of the unpredictable dangers that could arise at any moment.

Understanding Malcolm's concerns, Reese reassured him. "I know, I understand. Sweetheart, don't be mad. Next time, I'll definitely let you know immediately if anything happens, alright?"

Malcolm playfully tapped Reese's nose.

"That's my girl. If I find you not being honest with me again, you'll see how I deal with you next time."

Saying that, Malcolm deliberately patted Reese's butt as if punishing him. Reese's cheeks suddenly turned red, and her cold voice carried a hint of shyness.

"This is the hall," she said.

"I know. What does it matter? Who would dare walk in on us?" Malcolm's tone was so arrogant.

Seeing that it was getting late, Reese stood up. "I'm going to Nolan Dixon's place tomorrow."

Malcolm immediately said, "I'll go with you."

"No, I can handle it myself. The Hawthorne family are rather touchy these days. You should pay a little attention to yourself."

Reese saw the news of Stephen's discharge today, and now the Hawthorne family was unusually alert to the outside world. Any slight movement could startle them.

But this was exactly the effect Reese wanted. If they couldn't live in peace, then they shouldn't blame her for continuing to cause trouble.

Malcolm nodded. "I know, but when it comes to Nolan, I will definitely accompany you."

"You don't have to. I don't want his people to know who you are, it's not good for you. It's best not to cause more trouble at this time."

They already had enough on their hands.

Seeing Reese so insistent, Malcolm also understood her intentions. Despite having been with him for such a long time, Reese had not lost her true, highly independent nature.

Indeed, she was the kind of woman Malcolm liked. Still, Malcolm hoped Reese could rely on him more, although he also didn't want her to lose herself in love.

Being able to live comfortably and maintain one's original intentions was the most perfect state for a person.

Malcolm looked at Reese's clear face with his deep eyes. It seemed that only in front of Malcolm would she temporarily drop the cold and indifferent mask to reveal her true colors. In truth, she was extremely gentle and calm, with a radiant gaze. She wasn't naturally a wary person.

The overly cautious version of Reese made Malcolm feel heartbroken.
