Chapter 559 Breakthrough
Justin's words hit hard, and Everly knew there was no going back.
From a distance, she peeped at the company entrance, catching her colleagues pointing and gossiping about her.
'Just wait, one day I'll be back. One day everything that should've been mine will be, including Malcolm,' she thought.
With a mix of anger and determination, Everly turned and left the place where she had been humiliated.
Up on the twenty-first floor, Reese and Malcolm watched Everly leave.
Reese's eyes were a mix of emotions as she said, "Vincent's in jail, but Nolan's still out there. Let's head to Giedon's and see if Everhart's ready to spill the beans."
Without wasting time, the two drove to Giedon's place.
When they got there, Malcolm greeted Giedon. After some small talk, Malcolm cut to the chase.
"Giedon, how's Everhart been?"
Giedon frowned at the mention of Everhart.
"Don't even bring him up. No matter what we do, he won't talk. If he wasn't still worth keeping around, I'd have taught him a lesson!"
Hearing this, Malcolm and Reese started to hatch a plan.
Reese said to Giedon, "Everhart probably thinks he's got something over Nolan. If he talks now, Nolan will definitely come after him. He's scared for his life, so he won't say anything."
"But with Nolan in this mess, if Everhart talks, he might still have a way out," Malcolm added, then turned to Giedon. "Giedon, let's go see him."
With Giedon's nod, the two headed to where Everhart was being held.
Seeing Everhart, Reese got straight to the point.
She asked, "Do you know Nolan's wanted by the cops for selling guns to Vincent? You have no leverage now.. If you want out of here, you need to spill everything you know."
Everhart was stunned. 'Nolan's been caught?' he thought.
If what Reese and Malcolm said was true, he might have a way out!
But he wasn't sure if they were trying to trick him. Everhart stayed cautious.
"Words alone don't prove anything. You think I'll fall for your tricks that easily?"
Everhart refused to believe Nolan was wanted. Nolan's power was huge; these two must be trying to fool him. He couldn't fall for it!
Seeing Everhart's disbelief, Reese didn't say another word. She pulled out her phone, opened a webpage, and shoved it in front of Everhart.
The news of Nolan being wanted was right there.
Finally, Everhart believed Reese.
Suppressing his excitement, Everhart thought this was his chance!
He knew Nolan had been trying to kill him, making his situation dire. But now that Nolan was wanted, he had his own problems to deal with and couldn't focus on him.
If he spilled the beans to Reese and Malcolm, adding to Nolan's rap sheet, he could finally get rid of this threat!
Having made up his mind, Everhart said, "Alright, listen up. Nolan's killed a bunch of people. When his business hit a rough patch and he needed cash, he'd off someone and then blackmail the victim's family. They didn't know the person was dead and would cough up the money. There's a notebook with all the details."
Reese knew that if they got their hands on that notebook, Nolan would be toast. These crimes were way worse than gun trafficking.
Reese, having been in the organization, knew some of Nolan's quirks.
She was sure the notebook existed, but where it was now was anyone's guess.
Giedon ordered his men, "Head to Nolan's place and see if you can find this notebook."
After that, Reese and Malcolm tagged along with Giedon's crew to Nolan's home.
Reese told the guys to search openly, while she took Malcolm straight to the study.
Reese said to Malcolm, "The study is Nolan's sacred ground. He doesn't let anyone in. There must be some clues here."
Malcolm nodded, "Let's split up and search."
"Got it."
They started tearing the place apart, looking for anything useful.
After a thorough search, they came up empty-handed.
"Nolan must've taken it with him," Reese guessed, frowning.
"Or he might've destroyed it," Malcolm added.
Both were worried; either scenario spelled trouble for them.
The tension in the room was thick. Seeing Reese and Malcolm so quiet, the others didn't dare make a peep.
Just when everyone was about to give up, a figure showed up at the door.
"Hugo? What are you doing here?" Reese immediately recognized him.
Hugo had been with Nolan but had messed up and almost got killed by him. Reese had saved him, and he'd been with her since.
Hugo wasn't surprised to see Reese and said, "Reese, I'm here to grab some of my stuff. With Nolan wanted, I thought I'd take my things."
"Go ahead," Reese said. Hugo had been with Nolan for a long time, and this place was like his second home.
Seeing Reese with so many people, Hugo asked casually, "What are you guys looking for?"
Malcolm said, "We're hunting for evidence of Nolan's murders and blackmail."
So far, they had zilch and didn't know if they'd find any leads.
Hugo asked instinctively, "Evidence of murders and blackmail? A notebook?"
Reese's eyes widened. "You know about that? Have you seen it?"
From Hugo's question, Reese knew he must know something.
He said, "Yeah, I've seen a notebook like that with Nolan. It had names and amounts written in it. Nolan guarded it like a hawk. It must be what you're after."
Reese felt they were close to a breakthrough.
She asked, "Do you remember any names from the notebook?"
Hugo replied, "Well... I remember a few names."
