Chapter 577 Reese in Peril
Reese picked up the pace to get the hell outta there, scared another quake might hit. What you dreaded most would always happen.
Within minutes, the tunnel started shaking like crazy again.
Reese didn't even have time to think, just felt everything go black before the whole tunnel caved in.
Meanwhile, Malcolm had to get his crew out fast. The factory was shaking like mad, and even though it didn't collapse, it had some serious cracks.
Calvin felt the quake and didn't even think about hiding, just bolted back.
He yelled towards the factory, "Reese..."
Malcolm saw him trying to go in and yanked him back.
"Don't! It's already caved in."
His face was serious, eyes full of worry and fear, but he knew he couldn't lose it now. If he freaked out, who'd handle the mess?
He turned to Justin, "Get another rescue team here, ASAP!"
The faster they got there, the better Reese's chances.
Soon, the rescue team showed up and Malcolm talked to them. "Someone's inside, get them out, quick!"
Malcolm also called in more help, basically pulling in rescue teams from everywhere.
It was a massive effort.
The captain of the rescue team asked Malcolm, "How many people are trapped inside?"
Malcolm frowned, still looking grim. "One."
The rescue team was shocked. Just one person, and they called in so many teams? What was going on?
Looking at the scale, it seemed like they had gathered every rescue team around.
Curious, the captain asked again, "Mr. Flynn, is the person inside your mom or a close sibling?"
Malcolm shot him a look, "My wife."
The rescue team was stunned.
Seeing they hadn't started yet, Malcolm lost his patience and snapped. "What are you waiting for? Get to work!"
The rescue team, spooked by Malcolm's tone, immediately set off to work.
Calvin, next to him, was even more anxious, clasping his hands in prayer. "Reese, please be okay."
If something happened to Reese, he felt like he couldn't go on.
Justin hadn't expected things to get this bad. How could an earthquake just hit out of nowhere? There hadn't been any warnings about geological disasters recently.
And it just had to happen when Reese went in.
His biggest worry now was if Reese was safe. But if something happened to Reese, Malcolm wouldn't be able to handle it.
Over the years, Justin had seen how much Malcolm cared about Reese.
And Reese's team probably couldn't handle it, either.
He tried to comfort Calvin, "Don't worry, Mrs. Flynn will make it, she'll be fine."
Calvin's heart was still in knots, his face a mix of guilt and pain. He squatted down, clutching his head. "It's all on me, man. I shouldn't have let Reese go in alone. I should've insisted on going myself. Then it wouldn't be her stuck in there."
Justin said soothingly, "Calvin, you know Mrs. Flynn better than anyone. You've been with her forever. Do you really think she'd let you take that risk? No matter how much you pushed, she wouldn't have let you go in."
Reese couldn't stand seeing anyone she cared about get hurt, so there was no way she'd let Calvin go in, which just made him feel worse.
The rescue operation dragged on for nearly two hours with no leads. The biggest worry now was aftershocks. If those hit, it would be a whole new level of trouble.
Malcolm frowned, his vibe so intense no one dared to get close.
He rubbed his temples, frustrated by a nasty spasm of remorse.
Just then, Justin shouted, "Mr. Flynn, it's Sofia."
Malcolm turned and saw Sofia walking back, looking a mess. She knew there'd been an earthquake but didn't expect to run into Malcolm and the crew here.
She walked up, looking confused. "Mr. Flynn, why are you here?"
Sofia still didn't know there was a tracker on her necklace.
Calvin rushed up, shaking Sofia's shoulders, all emotional. "Have you seen Nolan? That old man, I swear I'll skin him alive. If it weren't for him, Reese wouldn't be missing. She wouldn't have gone into that hellhole."
Sofia frowned, confused, "Reese... what happened to Reese?"
"We found a tunnel inside. Reese thought Nolan might be in there, so she went in alone. Then the earthquake hit, and now we don't know what's happened to her."
Sofia was shocked, "What, Reese is inside!"
The more Calvin thought about it, the more scared he got, muttering to himself, "She's been in there for two hours, and we don't know if she's..."
Malcolm was fuming. If it weren't for Nolan, Reese wouldn't have gone into that hellhole. Even if Nolan died a thousand times, it wouldn't make up for what his wife was going through.
With no food or water but infinte darkness, she must feel so helpless alone.
Justin could see how deeply worried Malcolm was. Even though he was trying to keep it together, if anything really happened, he'd fall apart.
The Hawthorne family somehow found out about Sebastian's disappearance and quickly traced it back to Reese.
When they couldn't find Reese, they dug around and found out Malcolm and the crew were here.
The Hawthorne family showed up with their people, and Alexander, especially, punched Malcolm right in the face.
