Chapter 569 Tearing Off Your Roof
"Honey, chill. We don't need to freak out about where Sofia is right now."
Malcolm laughed over the phone, especially when Reese asked if he was hiding something from her. It sounded more like she was teasing him.
Honestly, he just wanted to hug his girl right then.
With all this drama, they hadn't had any alone time in ages.
Reese snapped back to reality, "Sorry, I haven't been sleeping well these past few days."
"Look, you should come back. I'll have someone keep tabs on Sofia without spooking her. You've done your part. Now it's just about keeping an eye on Sofia and waiting for Nolan to make a move."
Malcolm had everything else covered and didn't want Reese burning out.
Reese rubbed her temples, "Yeah, I'm wiped. Alright, I'll head back. Just make sure someone keeps an eye on Sofia and that Nolan doesn't catch wind. That guy's ruthless."
If Nolan found out anything from Sofia, he'd probably kill her to keep his secrets.
"Oh, and you can ask Sebastian for help," Malcolm suddenly remembered.
Reese shot that down immediately. "No way, Sebastian's too young. I don't want him mixed up in this."
"You don't have to spill the details. Doesn't he have a racing team? Get his racing buddies to scope out the area. Those guys know the terrain like the back of their hand. Nolan can't hide among the locals; the cops are all over him."
Reese got what Malcolm was saying.
Even though she was still iffy, leaving Sofia out there was too risky.
"Fine, I'll go find Sebastian."
After hanging up, Reese had Calvin check where Sebastian was since she couldn't reach him by phone.
Calvin reported back, "Reese, Sebastian's still at the Hawthorne estate. Should we go there?"
Calvin knew Reese had issues with the Hawthorne family and didn't really want to go there.
Reese rubbed her temples in frustration. The situation was urgent, and if she didn't go find Sebastian in person, there was no other way to contact him.
She grabbed her coat from the back of her chair, "Let's go."
Calvin nodded, "Okay."
They drove to the Hawthorne estate. As soon as Reese saw the place, bad memories came rushing back, messing with her head.
But she knew now wasn't the time to get caught up in that. She had to focus on the bigger picture.
Reese walked up to the estate, and the Hawthorne family servants quickly stopped her.
"Ms. Brooks, please wait. If you want to see Mr. Hawthorne, I need to inform him first."
Seeing the servant's cautious look, Reese's eyes turned cold.
"What, you think I'm gonna tear the place down? You need to inform him first?"
She wasn't dumb; she could see the Hawthorne family was on guard around her.
Thinking about how her own dad treated her like she was some kind of thief, Reese found it pretty funny.
But she wasn't some delicate flower. She did what she had to do, and the rest was up to others. Whether the Hawthorne family acknowledged her or not, she didn't give a damn.
Life had taught her to roll with the punches. Some things just couldn't be forced, so she let them be.
The servant, spooked by Reese's vibe, took a step back.
Reese shrugged it off and walked inside. Just then, Stephen came down the stairs, and his face twisted when he saw her.
"What are you doing here?"
He shot a blaming look at the servant.
Reese, always sharp, spoke coldly, "Don't blame your staff. Even if they wanted to stop me, they couldn't."
Stephen laughed, "You really are my daughter, so bold."
Reese sneered, "Mr. Hawthorne, cut the crap. We both know we can't stand each other. Your words mean nothing. We're just blood relatives, nothing more. I'm here to see Sebastian, not you, and definitely not for the Hawthorne family fortune."
Stephen didn't expect Reese to still have such a fiery temper and sharp tongue after all this time.
He sighed, "You really are like your mother."
"Shut up. You don't deserve to mention my mom. If it weren't for you, would my mom have been kicked out with a newborn? If she had known you were married, she wouldn't have followed you. You lied to her and wrecked her life!"
Stephen lowered his head, trying to defend himself. "Even so, I still loved your mother. She used to..."
"Stephen, this is your last warning. Mention my mom again, and I'll do whatever it takes to bring down the Hawthorne family!"
Calvin chimed in, "Stephen, you better listen to Reese. She's not bluffing."
Reese could single-handedly make the Hawthorne family struggle. Plus, Malcolm adored her and would do anything to protect her. He wouldn't just stand by and watch her suffer.
He'd go all out to help Reese get her revenge.
Gideon and the entire Flynn family had Reese's back. The Hawthorne family couldn't compete with that.
Calvin continued, "I don't get what you're thinking. With Reese's current status, do you know how many people would kill to be in your shoes? You were just lucky to have a daughter as smart as Reese. If it were someone else, they wouldn't have such good luck. You don't appreciate it and act all paranoid, thinking Reese wants your family fortune. Seriously, how much fortune does the Hawthorne family even have?" Calvin was genuinely puzzled.
Reese didn't want to waste any more words on Stephen.
"Bring Sebastian out. I need to talk to him. Once it's done, I'm outta here."
