Chapter 45 A Moment of Understanding
Reese remained calm and composed. Even when confronted with Alyssa's testimony and evidence, she did not show any fear, and her gaze remained bright and clear.
"Even if there is poison, it has nothing to do with me."
Everly glanced at Reese sideways, her tone unfriendly.
"If you say it has nothing to do with you, then it doesn't. You were the one who collected this medicine and brought it from outside. If it wasn't you, then it must have been Sandra."
Sandra, who had just been brought in by Mr. Tartt, rushed in to explain..
"Miss Everly, Miss Alyssa, this really has nothing to do with me. I only followed Madam's orders to make medicine for the Master. I didn't add anything to it. Miss Alyssa can vouch for me. When she came into the kitchen earlier, I was still making the medicine, and she was there watching."
If Sandra were to be accused of trying to harm the Master, she would end up in prison. She had dependents and couldn't afford such a thing to happen.
Alyssa shrugged, looking like she was watching a play.
"Well, it's either you or Reese."
Reese remained composed and had already caught on to the clues from their conversation.
But before clarifying everything, she needed to ask Malcolm a question.
Reese turned her gaze towards the man lying calmly on the bed.
"Malcolm, do you believe me?"
Malcolm stared at her, his fair face devoid of any expression of fear, displaying confidence as if victory was assured.
Afterward, he curved his lips and gave a devilish smile.
"Of course, I believe you."
Reese inexplicably felt relieved in her heart. She wasn't afraid of false accusations from others, but rather afraid that the person she needed wouldn't believe her.
But now, with Malcolm's words, she had the courage to confront everyone in this room.
Perhaps, besides Malcolm, no one else wanted her to stay in the Flynn family.
But she wasn't someone to be toyed with. If someone insisted on framing her unjustly, they shouldn't blame her for disregarding their feelings.
She stood tall and straight, her gaze bright. She didn't look like someone who had malicious intentions.
Despite not fully understanding Reese's words, She still didn't want to miss this opportunity. So, she vaguely replied, "If it's not Sandra, then it must be you. You were the one who brought the medicine for Malcolm, so you have the highest suspicion."
Reese already knew who had poisoned Malcolm, but Alyssa had no solid evidence or preparedness to bring her down. Thus, when faced with questioning, she became flustered and responded with a flurry of words.
"The highest suspicion on me? Do you have any evidence? Without witnesses or physical evidence, you have no way to accuse me of wanting to harm Malcolm. However, I have evidence that proves you are the one who poisoned him."
Reese, with her sharp, gleaming eyes fixed on Alyssa, made her increasingly nervous. It was as if Reese could see right through her, peering into her thoughts. Though Alyssa was only in her twenties, she couldn't understand why Reese possessed such piercing gaze, reminiscent of when her brother was angry.
Before Alyssa could defend herself, Everly couldn't restrain herself any longer and yelled at Reese, "Reese, stop talking nonsense! Judging from what you imply, you seem to be suggesting that the culprit is among us. Don't forget that everyone present, besides you, is Malcolm's family. Why would we harm him?"
Reese didn't even look at Everly with her sharp eyes, but rather straight at Alyssa.
Alyssa's heart raced even faster, and her face turned pale. If this continued, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold herself together, even without taking any action.
She had underestimated this girl. She thought Reese was just an insignificant person, but who knew that her eyes alone could be so intimidating? It was on par with Malcolm. Whenever Malcolm glared at her, even before he spoke, she felt chills running down her spine.
In the entire room, only Reese's voice remained, without any diminishing of her resolve. On the contrary, it grew more confident.
"In fact, you never intended to harm him. You just wanted to frame me. You calculated the timing perfectly, coming in to stop me before I could feed him the medicine, just like you did now."
Malcolm, with a strained neck, defended himself, "Do you have any evidence to support what you're saying?"
"Proof? That's simple. The packaging you had just now was probably bought from a pharmacy, and it probably wasn't obtained through proper channels. Would you like me to give you the specific address?"
Alyssa furrowed her brows, her heartbeat skipped a beat. How did this girl know where she bought her medicine?
Reese was skilled at observing the subtle expressions on others' faces. And Alyssa's reaction didn't go unnoticed.
At this moment, the fear on her face was already quite obvious. She just needed a little more push to expose her true colors.
How could Everly not know that it was Alyssa's doing? Reese didn't seem that foolish, but since Alyssa wanted to bring down Reese, she naturally had to help.
"Reese, don't think we'll believe you. Maybe you bought this medicine yourself from the pharmacy. Otherwise, how could you possibly know where it came from, based on just the packaging paper?"
Alyssa, catching Everly's intention, nodded along.
"That's right, this medicine clearly was bought by you. You're trying to frame me, but I don't even know which pharmacy to go to."
"Then are you brave enough to go to the pharmacist with me to confirm? If they say they haven't seen you before, I'll drink this bowl of medicine."
Alyssa couldn't help but widen her eyes.
Is this girl crazy? Playing such a dangerous game, this medicine looks like it might be truly poisonous.
Reese was resolute, while Alyssa seemed a bit guilty, her face turning extremely unpleasant.
Even if Grandpa Flynn couldn't fully understand, he knew Alyssa, and she clearly felt guilty.
With Reese pressing on step by step, capturing every detail without giving Alyssa any chance to argue back.
Vincent stood at the back, but he was the tallest and most conspicuous. Despite being outnumbered, he emitted an intimidating aura that no one dared to provoke.
Especially his eyes, laden with so much world-weariness, instead giving off a sense of composure. His logical thinking was meticulous, with no flaws visible. He captured every detail ruthlessly, and the outcome of this contest was already apparent.
The fact that she could determine which pharmacy the medicine came from just by its packaging showed that she was not ordinary. Alyssa had told him on the phone before that Malcolm's legs regained feeling, and it seemed to be related to the girl in front of him.
It seemed they needed to send someone to investigate her background thoroughly, to decide whether to keep her or get rid of her. They needed to think it through carefully.
Just as the tension became unbearable, Malcolm suddenly spoke from the bed.
"Alyssa, apologize to your sister-in-law now. There's still time."
Reese turned around, looking meaningfully at Malcolm. Now she understood why he spoke up to help her. It was like watching a play. This man was confident that he could resolve the situation.
His scheming and strategy were not simple at all.
Alyssa, unexpectedly called out by Malcolm, flashed a hint of panic and embarrassment on her face.
"Why should I apologize to her? I didn't buy the medicine."
Malcolm furrowed his brows, his eyes as cold as an icy abyss, causing Alyssa to shrink her neck and dare not say another word.
What kind of expressions did these two give? Did they want to scare her to death in order to feel at ease?
Grandpa Flynn had also seen through everything. It turns out that this was all a plan.
Alyssa staged the whole thing and nearly fooled them all.
