Chapter 415 Won't Meeting Him
"Now what do we do? She won't really try to get back at us, will she?"
"Who am I supposed to ask? I'm worried, too. I can't afford to lose this job; I have kids to feed at home."
"From now on, let's just do our jobs well. It is her ability to be good. We don't have her look."
"But Reese's personality is truly unique, very peculiar."
These people didn't dare to say too much, fearing Reese might come back any moment.
Sophia returned to her seat with Reese, feeling a bit confused.
"Reese, why didn't you give them a good lesson just now? They were really nasty."
"They won't dare to say anything again unless they don't want this job."
Sophia was puzzled. "How can you be so sure?"
"If it were you, would you risk your job for a joke?"
Previously, those people hadn't been taught a lesson and didn't realize the seriousness of the situation. But now they should know; if they bring it up again, they're digging their own graves.
Sophia suddenly understood. "So that's what you meant. No wonder you were so calm."
"Don't worry about them, just do your own thing."
"Okay."
Sophia found herself admiring Reese more and more. Reese had many qualities she herself lacked.
Reese had just opened her computer when a message popped up. It was from Calvin.
Reese, congratulations on securing that project.
Reese was a bit surprised. She wasn't entirely confident about this project, especially given the strength of the Hawthorne family. She thought a big part of the reason was Malcolm.
He had given her a lot of advice. If she had followed her original plan, things might not have turned out this way. It might not have passed.
Reese remained outwardly calm and simply typed a few words: [Got it.]
Calvin quickly sent another message: [You should be careful with the Hawthorne family. Since your name wasn't hidden this time, he probably knows you took the project.]
Reese showed a contemptuous smile. She thought, 'I want him to know.'
Calvin was extremely impressed. Reese had such mental fortitude.
Reese had other things to do, so she didn't continue the conversation. She was calm and collected, but things weren't going so well for Alexander.
When Alexander found out that his proposal had been rejected, he immediately swept everything off his desk in his office. His face was livid with rage.
His assistant didn't dare to approach and cautiously said, "Mr. Hawthorne, this was really unexpected."
"Who took the project?"
"It was... your sister, Reese Brooks, the wife of the president of the Flynn Group."
The assistant's voice trembled as he replied.
Alexander glared at the assistant. "Can't you be straightforward? Doesn't she have a name?"
Alexander criticized the assistant for not directly answering.
The assistant hung his head. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hawthorne."
Just thinking about it made Alexander furious. He had put all his energy into this project, and who would have thought Reese would snatch it away.
His team had been working overtime for days, hardly sleeping, and in just two days, Reese had taken it.
Reese was clearly doing it on purpose. She must be retaliating against the Hawthorne family.
His mother had visited Reese before, and it was said that Reese was vindictive and unfriendly. Now it seemed her personality was indeed troublesome.
Alexander gritted his teeth, full of anger, his face contorted, and he pounded his fist on the table. "This project has nothing to do with their expertise. The Flynn Group has never dealt with this project. Those two are really a perfect match."
The assistant was a bit confused and wanted to ask Alexander, "Mr. Hawthorne, how do you know Mr. Flynn from the Flynn Group was involved in this project?"
"Isn't that obvious? Do you think the people at the Hawthorne Group are that incompetent? Even if she was fast and skilled, it's impossible to complete a project she had no experience with in just a day or two."
However, if the two of them worked together, then it was still possible.
The point was, they had conspired behind his back.
The assistant had to admit, Alexander was indeed smart.
"So... what do we do now? If your father finds out, he'll definitely blame you."
Alexander's eyes were filled with anger. "Since she came to provoke us, we can't just sit back and do nothing. Find a time to arrange a meeting. I want to see her."
The assistant nodded. "I'll arrange it now."
Reese soon received a call from Alexander's assistant.
"Ms. Brooks, our Mr. Hawthorne would like to meet with you. Are you available?"
"Is it the old one or the young one?" Reese spoke without hesitation, showing no concern.
The assistant was stunned by her words and silently thanked that Mr. Hawthorne hadn't heard, or it would have caused serious conflict.
He awkwardly replied, "It's not Hawthorne Chairman, it's Hawthorne CEO."
"No time, not meeting."
Reese didn't hesitate and bluntly refused.
The assistant began to sweat. If he couldn't arrange a meeting today, knowing Mr. Hawthorne's temperament, he might not need to come to work tomorrow.
He softened his tone. "Ms. Brooks, you are related by blood after all. You'll have to meet eventually. Even if not today, you'll likely run into each other in the same industry."
Reese sneered and said, "We'll talk when we run into each other. I don't want to meet now. If he's insistent on meeting me, let him call personally. Sending an assistant shows no sincerity."
After saying that, Reese hung up. The assistant's face turned grim. This was like sending him to his death.
The Hawthorne family really was a family, their tempers were all the same, and each was more arrogant than the last.
What else could he do? The assistant had to relay the message to Mr. Hawthorne.
When Alexander heard from the assistant that Reese demanded he call personally, he nearly threw his glass. His face was extremely dark. "She dares to make such a demand!"
The assistant remained silent.
Alexander paced angrily in the office, then reluctantly decided to swallow his pride. "Give me the phone."
The assistant quickly handed it over.
