Chapter 499 The Hunted Moment

After getting back, Reese called Ryan.

"Reese, what's up?"

"Send that recording I gave you straight to the pharmacy where Vincent works. No need to go public with it."

Ryan booted up his computer. "Got it. Are you going after Vincent because he framed your husband before, or is this something new?"

"It's not about that. This time, he messed with my friend."

Sophia was different from Reese in many ways, and people often wondered how they became friends. But Reese liked Sophia's straightforwardness.

Maybe because Reese was too smart and knew how fake people could be, she preferred dealing with honest folks.

Ryan was a bit surprised. "Reese, it's rare to see you stand up for a friend. Is she a new friend?"

"Not really, an old colleague. She's pretty naive."

"Got it. I'll send the recording. But Reese, if you send it directly, Vincent might come after you."

Whatever was on that recording, if Reese was sending it, it was serious. It would definitely hurt Vincent's reputation at the pharmacy.

Reese scoffed. "If he can even touch me, I'll be impressed."

Ryan almost wanted to give her a thumbs-up through the phone.

"Classic Reese, always so confident."

"Keep an eye on the secret base for the next few days. Calvin's got some personal stuff and might be gone for a bit."

Ryan was curious. "Where did Calvin go? You didn't let him take a solo vacation, did you?"

Reese chuckled. "When have I ever given him a solo vacation? This is serious."

She always treated Louis and the others equally, never showing favoritism.

Ryan was just teasing. "Just kidding, Reese. Don't take it seriously. I'll handle everything. The secret base is covered."

"Alright, I'm hanging up."

"Okay."

The next day, Reese was still asleep when Alyssa knocked on the door, waking her up.

"Reese, get up. The sun's already up."

Reese groggily opened her eyes, feeling a bit grumpy. Malcolm pulled her back into his arms.

"Sweetheart, go back to sleep."

Reese wasn't fully awake yet, and with Malcolm soothing her, she drifted back to sleep.

Alyssa kept knocking. "Reese, open the door. If you don't, I'm coming in. You two aren't doing anything, right?"

Malcolm covered Reese with the blanket, got up, and opened the door.

"Reese, you... Malcolm."

Alyssa was about to relax, but seeing Malcolm's stern face, she froze.

Malcolm frowned, his handsome face darkened, and his voice was sharp. "If you make another noise, I'll have you thrown out. Don't you know my wife is sleeping?"

Alyssa was taken aback by Malcolm's outburst.

Her mind went blank for a moment. If it weren't for the people waiting for her, she would have left.

For the honor of her studio and her dignity, she had to push through.

"Malcolm, I really need to see Reese. I made an appointment with her a few days ago. This is about my self-respect."

Alyssa clasped her hands together, looking at Malcolm sincerely, hoping he wouldn't actually throw her out.

"Your self-respect isn't as important as my wife's sleep."

Alyssa was stunned.

She clenched her fists, wanting to say, "Are you even human?" But she didn't dare, so she forced a smile instead.

"Malcolm, I’m begging you. It's really important. You don't know what people are saying about me. If you heard it, you'd be outraged on my behalf."

She covered her face and started to sob, looking pitiful.

But Malcolm remained unmoved. "If you want to cry, do it outside. You'll wake my wife."

Alyssa couldn't keep up the act. She removed her hands and glared at Malcolm.

"All you care about is your wife, huh? I'm your sister too, and I love your wife just as much."

"What are you two arguing about?"

Reese walked to the door, still sleepy, looking at them in confusion.

Seeing Reese, Alyssa felt a surge of hope and rushed over. Reese tried to step aside but was too late, mainly because she wasn't fully awake. Otherwise, Alyssa wouldn't have had the chance.

Alyssa clung to Reese like a koala, crying, "Reese, you don't know how overboard Malcolm is. He wanted to throw me out just so you could sleep in. He was so mean to me. I told him we're allies, and I love you just as much as he does. Is it just because he's a man and I'm a woman? Don't be sexist!"

Reese remembered she had promised Alyssa yesterday. She yawned.

"Wait for me a few minutes. I'll get ready and go."

Alyssa nodded eagerly. "Okay, Reese, take your time. I'll wait for you."

After Reese went into the bathroom, Alyssa made a face at Malcolm.

"See, Reese isn't like you. She keeps her promises."

That was what she liked about Reese. No matter what, if Reese promised something, you could trust her to follow through.

Malcolm's eyes gleamed with pride. "Of course, she's my wife."

Alyssa rolled her eyes. "Just because she's your wife, doesn't mean you have to be so smug."

Since marrying Reese, Malcolm had changed. He used to be so aloof, barely saying a word. Now, whenever it involved his wife, he couldn't stop talking.

But it was better this way. Compared to the cold and distant Malcolm of the past, she preferred this more human version.

They usually joked around but never took it seriously. After all, both she and Malcolm cared for Reese.

Malcolm stopped bantering with Alyssa and returned to his usual self, speaking seriously.

"How's your situation? With someone causing trouble behind your back, you should think about any enemies you've made. You encounter many competitors during your live streams, each with their own resources and fans. Standing out too much can easily cause resentment."

Malcolm reminded her, aware of Alyssa's straightforward nature and lack of guile.

Alyssa realized, "Malcolm, now that you mention it, I think you're right." She paused for a few seconds. "But I have a lot of enemies. I don't know who it could be."

Malcolm glared at her and raised his hand to scare her.

"I feel like hitting you!" He said playfully

"Not the face!" Alyssa quickly covered her face.

But the hit never came. She peeked through her fingers and saw Malcolm's stern gaze.

"First, handle your current situation. I'll have Justin look into the rest."

Alyssa's face lit up with joy, and she nearly jumped up to hug Malcolm.

"Malcolm, you're the best. I need detectives like you to find out who's targeting me. With your help, I definitely take them down!"
