Chapter 586 My Wife Said to Speak Politely
Reese caught a glimpse of Malcolm's sour face and those lips pressed tight like he was holding back a secret. She almost burst out laughing.
Seeing Malcolm like this was a rare sight. It really looked like he had something he just couldn't spit out.
After all, what was he gonna do? He couldn't just shout out loud, "Hey, you guys leave Reese alone with me."
Calvin, all emotional, stepped up and grabbed Reese's hands tight. "Reese, I'm not kidding, I've never been this freaked out in my life."
When that tunnel caved in, he was totally frozen, brain just went blank.
Louis and Ryan chimed in, too.
"Same here. When we heard, we were scared out of our minds."
"Who would've thought Reese ended up in the hospital 'cause of a natural disaster? Seriously, how could something so awful happen to someone as awesome as Reese?"
Reese turned to Calvin, "Did you deal with Nolan? You gotta hand all the evidence over to Rex. A guy like that deserves to rot in prison."
Calvin nodded. "You're right, Reese. But there's another thing, Sofia's grandma... she's already..."
He hadn't told Reese yet, but she was gonna find out sooner or later.
Plus, Sofia had already paid the price for her actions.
Reese didn't need more details to get what Calvin meant.
She let out a soft sigh. "What can we do? It's out of our hands. Maybe just be there for her."
She'd checked into Sofia's grandma's condition before, and it wasn't looking good. If Sofia hadn't taken such good care of her, she wouldn't have lasted this long.
Now that her grandma was gone, it was no surprise Sofia was falling apart.
It made sense. Just like when her own grandma passed, she didn't even know how it happened. Speaking of which, she needed to find out who was really behind her grandma's death.
Malcolm saw Reese deep in thought again, probably about Sofia. He walked over and gently massaged her neck. "Don't overthink it. Sofia must've known this was coming."
He knew Reese felt for Sofia because of her own grandma.
Just then, Sebastian showed up and broke the tension. "Reese, Reese... you awake?"
Sebastian walked in, saw Reese was up, and looked super relieved.
Seeing Sebastian, Reese felt her tight chest finally ease up.
"I'm awake. You okay?" She'd been worried something might've happened to Sebastian, and the first thing she did when she woke up was check if he was alright.
Sebastian lit up at Reese's concern. "Yeah, I'm good. Reese, you don't need to stress about me. I'm a grown man, what could possibly happen? But you, what you went through nearly gave me a heart attack."
Calvin, standing nearby, let out a cold snort, "I told you not to go in there. But no, you had to go in. If Reese hadn't gone in after you, she wouldn't have..."
Reese cut him off, "Calvin, enough."
"Fine, I'll zip it. Reese, you just keep looking out for him." Calvin felt helpless. He'd rarely seen Reese trust someone so much. It was a first.
It seemed Reese really cared about Sebastian.
After all, he was her blood-related younger brother.
Sebastian knew Calvin was just looking out for Reese, so he wasn't mad and apologized. "I'm sorry, it was my bad. In that situation, I should've told you first. But I thought if he was really in there, you guys could catch him right away. If I was wrong, it would've just been a false alarm."
Reese didn't want to blame anyone anymore. "What's done is done. These natural disasters and accidents are out of our hands."
As long as everyone was safe and the issue could be sorted, nothing else mattered.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Everyone turned to see Alexander, carrying fruits and flowers.
But no one in the room seemed thrilled to see him, especially Calvin, who had the biggest reaction. "What are you doing here?"
Alexander's face stayed cool as he walked forward. "I'm here on behalf of Sebastian to say thanks. No matter what, you went into the tunnel for him."
He placed the fruits and flowers on Reese's bedside table, but with Reese's strong personality, she immediately shot him down. "No thanks, take them away. I don't need you visiting me."
The Hawthorne family had always been cold and never valued family ties. She didn't even want to waste words on them.
Louis also had no love for the Hawthorne family, "Since the Hawthorne family doesn't want to acknowledge Reese, please keep your distance."
Calvin sneered, looking at Alexander with disdain. "The Hawthorne family is rich? We don't want anything to do with you."
Hearing this, Alexander's face changed. These people had really picked up Reese's knack for comebacks.
He didn't care, "I'm not taking back what I brought. If you don't like it, do whatever you want with it."
Reese told Calvin, "Calvin, toss it!"
"Got it." Calvin, right in front of Alexander, picked up the fruits and flowers and walked out to dump them straight into the trash.
Alexander's face turned red with anger, "Reese, you're so rude!"
Malcolm cut in, "Alexander, watch your tone. You better be polite when talking to my wife."
