Chapter 10 Conspiracy
Maybe this was Emma's last chance to share an intimate moment with him. She was ready to be the worst in his eyes, just to leave a sweet memory before they split.
One night of soft lovemaking was enough to keep Emma going for the rest of her life.
But she stroked her belly. If she could, she still wanted to give the kid a real family.
Next morning, the alarm yanked Emma out of her groggy state. She felt like she was about to lose it, juggling jewelry design by day and outsmarting George and Anna by night.
She was totally wiped out.
But how did she just drop twelve years of feelings overnight?
A sudden notification snapped Emma out of her daydream.
She checked it; it was a message from George!
First thing she saw was a photo. It was of Emma and Anna, back when she first joined the Jones family.
In the pic, Anna was decked out in fancy clothes, the light hitting her bright, smiling face. She looked like a perfect princess, all high and mighty, while Emma wore a drab gray dress, like an ugly duckling in the shadows, all humble and lowly.
Below the photo was a message from George: [Emma, look at Anna and then look at yourself. What makes a filthy, lowly woman like you think you have the right to be my wife?]
The words hit her like icy daggers, causing a deep ache.
Twelve years ago, George had been so sweet to her that summer.
She gave George a shell, and George gave her coffee. They hit the beach together, watched the sunrise and sunset, and promised to be together forever.
Had George forgotten all that?
Emma's hands shook just like her heart.
Emma replied: [George, I know you hate me, but I'm pregnant. Give me a chance to love you, give the baby a real family, okay?]
Maybe George would give her another shot for the kid's sake?
Maybe George was looking forward to the baby just like she was.
Emma hoped her dream would come true, but deep down she knew it was all a fantasy. Emma was just daydreaming.
Time dragged on.
A few seconds felt like forever to Emma.
George replied: [Get rid of the baby.]
Emma's heart felt like it was ripped open, and before the pain could fade, George sent another message: [Emma, I'm warning you, only Anna is good enough to have my kids. A shameless bitch like you should sign the divorce papers and get lost! If you don't sign, I'll personally kill that kid.]
Anger and pain mixed together, and the noisy office went dead silent. Emma's warm blood turned ice cold. She finally saw the truth: the innocent love of their youth was dead. This man was Anna's George, not her George anymore.
George wasn't worth Emma's love anymore.
Emma tossed her phone aside, while Anna, who had been secretly using George's phone, quietly put it back where it belonged.
