Chapter 214 Applying Medicine
This body had intertwined with hers countless times during their lovemaking, their contact always painfully one-sided. She had never looked at it so closely before.
How flawless, how intoxicating it was.
But now, it was useless to her.
Emma hesitated to start, and George thought she was afraid of hurting him. He gently reassured her, this woman who seemed as skittish as a deer.
"It's okay, I trust you," George said with a soft smile, his eyes full of trust and anticipation.
Emma took a deep breath, her fingers lightly touching his skin as she carefully applied the ointment to his wound. Her movements were gentle and meticulous, as if she were tending to a precious artifact.
"There's more here," she said, her fingers gliding over his waist, feeling the warmth of his skin.
Her fingers brushed over the abrasion on his left side, feeling the slight swelling, and her heart ached.
Not for George, but for herself. He had only a minor injury and was rushed to the hospital, treated with care, and allowed to recover in peace.
But what did she have back then?
She had a sister, Anna, who was the only person she loved, constantly under threat.
A husband, George, who wanted her dead.
A mother, Sophia, who cursed her at every turn.
George was human, but wasn't she?
Thinking about these moments, she squeezed out some ointment forcefully and pressed it onto George's wound with a bit of anger.
George gasped in pain.
Emma put on a very apologetic and worried expression. "I'm sorry, George, I didn't mean to hurt you. I'll be more careful next time."
"It's okay; don't worry," George said, his eyes full of warmth and understanding.
He gently held Emma's hand, comforting her. "I know you're trying to help me; don't be too nervous."
"But I don't want to hurt you," Emma's voice lowered, filled with guilt.
"I don't care about that," George said, using his warmth to dispel Emma's worries. "You just need to take good care of me."
His gaze at Emma was full of affection. He didn't care about his own pain, only about whether Emma's feelings were affected.
"Who was the one complaining about the pain just now?" Emma continued to apply the ointment carefully.
"Isabella, your hands are so warm," George said, closing his eyes slightly, enjoying her gentle touch, his heart full of sweetness and gratitude. He could feel her tension and unease, and he understood how precious this care was.
George could hardly believe that this woman, who looked exactly like Emma, was really by his side.
It must be a blessing from God.
Emma's face blushed instantly, but she tried to stay calm, continuing to apply the ointment carefully, while secretly pondering this intimate feeling.
"All done," she finally said, gently pulling her hand back.
Emma's gaze met George's, and a hint of ambiguous emotion flickered in both their eyes.
"Thank you, Isabella," George said, his eyes brimming with affection.
"You're my future husband, it's what I should do," Emma said, screwing the cap back on the ointment and placing it back on the table. She then sat up straight, looking at George seriously. "George, I need to talk to you about something serious."
"You know, I only have one daughter, Seraphine. No matter what, she will always be with me."
Emma felt a pang of guilt about Seraphine. When she was in Sunterra, she was so focused on her career that she had no time for her daughter.
After coming back home, her focus shifted to revenge, and she still neglected Seraphine.
In Seraphine's heart, Michael probably held a more significant place.
Although Seraphine called Michael "Dad," he wasn't her biological father. Emma couldn't leave Seraphine to anyone else; she had to raise her herself. That was her bottom line.
Hearing Emma's request, George breathed a sigh of relief. He thought it was something more difficult, but it was just about raising Seraphine.
He already liked Seraphine a lot, and since she was Isabella's daughter, he would definitely consider himself her father.
Honestly, every time he thought about Seraphine calling Michael "Dad," it made him feel uneasy. He wished Seraphine would call him "Dad" instead.
"Don't worry, Isabella, I'll treat Seraphine as my own daughter." George gently patted Emma's head.
Emma felt that since they were on this topic, it was necessary to discuss Lucas as well.
"Lucas is also your child. If you and Anna can't get married, will you continue to raise him?"
George had long noticed Isabella's fondness for Lucas and her concern for his well-being. At first, he thought Isabella was like this with all children, but he later realized it wasn't the case.
Isabella had a special concern for Lucas, and when they were together, they looked more like family than Anna and Lucas did.
And Lucas seemed to have a natural closeness to Isabella.
If Isabella wanted custody of Lucas, George would contest it, but if she didn't, he wouldn't bother.
Although Anna treated Lucas poorly, he was the only grandson of the Stuart family, and they wouldn't neglect him.
From the beginning, George never thought Anna would personally raise Lucas. They seemed to be natural enemies.
Since Lucas was a baby, Anna had disliked him.
George knew about many of Anna's little actions, but he thought that since Anna was Lucas's biological mother, maybe Lucas was just being naughty and making her angry, so she disciplined him.
But there was no lasting grudge between a mother and her child. If a child made a mistake, they got disciplined and then it was over.
So George never interfered with Anna's way of raising Lucas.
But as time went on, George noticed Lucas becoming more timid. He was afraid to talk to people, even to make eye contact, and after being bullied at school, he became extremely introverted and self-conscious.
Until Isabella saved Lucas.
That was when George realized Lucas had serious psychological issues that needed intervention.
He took Lucas to see a psychologist, and through treatment, he learned that Lucas had closed himself off. If this continued, Lucas might develop autism.
No one wanted to see that happen.
So if he could take this opportunity to get custody of Lucas, he could save Lucas from Anna's torment, giving him a better life both materially and emotionally.
