Chapter 9 Apology

"Apologize to Anna right now," George's voice was firm, no room for debate. His eyes flashed with anger, like a dagger straight to Emma's heart.

"No way!" Emma's voice shook, full of hurt and pain. "I didn't do anything wrong, why should I say sorry to her?"

Emma's eyes welled up, tears streaming down. She felt so wronged, but facing George, she couldn't fight back, just pure despair.

"Get over here and apologize to Anna!"

George barked, his handsome face icy, but there was something in his eyes Emma couldn't figure out.

Anna, with a hint of secret joy, stepped forward looking all hurt. "George, let it go. We're sisters. I don't want her to apologize. It's my fault. You two are married now. I shouldn't have kept in touch, but I just can't help wanting to see you."

"Anna, cut the act. This is all your plan!"

Emma swallowed her tears and called Anna out.

Anna's face twisted in fake hurt as she cried, "Emma, how can you think that? How could you turn into this?"

"I turned into this because of you, you bitch!"

"Emma!"

George was livid. He yanked Emma off the hospital bed, dragging her in front of Anna.

"Say sorry to Anna now," he demanded.

Emma's heart went ice cold. She lowered her head, full of disdain, "Fine, I'll apologize."

Emma walked up to Anna, full of reluctance but gave in. She lowered her head, voice shaking, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have hit you."

After the apology, Emma's heart felt like it was being ripped apart. She turned and bolted out of the hospital, tears streaming. She knew she had to stay strong, so she told herself work would help her forget the pain.

At the office, Emma buried herself in work. Late at night, her phone buzzed. Seeing the familiar number, she felt a flicker of hope, 'It's George!'

She picked up, heart racing.

But what she heard was heavy breathing mixed with ecstatic moans, making her heart sink.

"George, faster..." Anna's voice was clear, full of joy and pleasure.

"What the hell?!" Emma's heart trembled, instantly getting what was happening. Anger and sadness tore at her sanity.

She hung up immediately, tears streaming, her pain hitting its peak. It felt like an invisible knife had slashed her, leaving her bleeding.

"Why did it end up like this?" she whispered in agony. All the trust and love crumbled, leaving her in deep helplessness and despair.

She rushed home, feeling drained. She closed the door behind her and leaned against it, tears flowing like a river. Deep inside, waves of tearing pain kept crashing over her.

Emma hugged herself tight, her lonely figure so small in the empty room, while despair surged in her heart like a tide.

Emma opened a bottle of red wine, taking a few sips before stopping, afraid of hurting the baby inside her.

In her drunken haze, Emma seemed to see George, the one she loved, coming back. Her soft arms wrapped around George's neck.

"George, I love you. You said you'd marry me," Emma murmured, using her drunkenness to say the words she couldn't normally say.
