Chapter 84 Whose Husband?

Before Emma could ask, Freya revealed the answer herself. She pulled back the curtain of the bed next to hers.

It was George, who was lying unconscious on the bed next to hers.

George's face was pale, and beads of sweat dotted his forehead as he received an IV drip. That familiar face filled her heart with warmth, as if she were transported back to the memories of her childhood.

"George..." she called softly, full of concern. George seemed still asleep, with a faint expression of pain on his face. Emma couldn't help but force herself out of bed, reaching out to gently touch his forehead, feeling the burning heat, and her heart filled with unease.

"What happened to him?"

"Nothing too serious. He had multiple frostbites, prolonged exposure to a cold environment had caused some hypothermia, and now he had a persistent high fever." Freya's voice grew more uncertain as she spoke; each condition alone was not minor, but George had accumulated so many.

He still managed to bring Emma to the hospital through sheer willpower—what a good man.

Emma carefully inquired about George's pessimistic condition, which prompted her to make a decision—transfer him to another hospital.

George couldn't get the best treatment here. If delayed, it might lead to irreversible damage.

But who should she call? She only remembered Mia's number, but after a few rings, there was no answer.

Anxiety filled her heart as she worried that Anna, unable to find her, might harm Mia, which was unacceptable.

Emma's unease grew. No matter how many times she tried, she couldn't reach Mia. Biting her lip, she had to look up Michael's work number through the company website.

She then contacted Michael's assistant through his work number, only to find out that Michael had gone on a business trip abroad a few days ago and hadn't returned yet.

Emma felt disappointed. After hanging up, she pondered her next move. For now, the only person who could help her was Ethan.

She gazed at George again, making a silent decision, 'No matter what, I have to get him to a safe place.'

Finally, she dialed Ethan's number.

Although Ethan had always been hostile towards George, he always managed to help in critical moments. Emma had no other choice.

"Ethan, can you do me a favor..." Emma's voice was filled with pleading.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Ethan's voice immediately grew tense. He hadn't heard from Emma in days and had been buried in the lab with Billy, trying to develop a better surgical method and special medicine for Emma.

He never expected Emma to suddenly contact him with a strange number. Something serious must have happened.

"George and I are injured, with my phone missing. We're at a clinic in the suburbs. George is very sick and needs to be transferred, but I..." Emma stammered, explaining the situation.

"Tell me the address. I'll be right there." Through the phone, Emma could almost hear Ethan opening the door and walking.

After hanging up, Emma felt a bit more at ease. She turned her head to look at the still-sleeping George, silently mocking herself. 'I really am pathetic. Even at a time like this, I still think George cares about me.'

It didn't take long for Ethan to arrange the transfer and contact George's family to prepare to take him away. Emma also wanted to leave this suffocating place as soon as possible.

Soon after, Anna arrived at the hospital, her face showing anxiety and anger. As soon as she saw George lying quietly on the bed, her heart tightened. She saw Emma sitting nearby, and her anger flared up.

"You bastard! If it weren't for you, George wouldn't be injured and hospitalized!" Anna yelled at Emma sharply, as if she wanted to vent all her resentment on her.

Emma didn't expect Anna to be the one to come. She didn't want to clash with Anna, remaining silent.

"Emma is a victim too! What's the point of yelling at her? You should be focusing on getting George transferred!" Ethan couldn't stand Emma being bullied and stood in front of her to protect her.

Ethan was a doctor; he knew Emma didn't have much time left through her indicators.

Why should she endure external insults? Let him shield Emma from these hardships.

"So you must be Emma's lover." Anna arrogantly sized up Ethan, only to find that his demeanor and appearance were no less than George's. She felt another wave of jealousy!

Why did Emma have another high-quality admirer? What was so good about Emma?

Even George had been acting strangely these days, seemingly caring more about Emma. She had found out that Wayne was someone George had found for Emma, and he had spent a lot of money to have the police investigate overnight, finding that blood-stained tissue as evidence to clear Emma of suspicion.

Although George still treated Anna as well as before, he had always talked about his promise to take care of her for life instead of loving her.

That was a promise to Emma, not to Anna! Anna could barely contain her anger.

She glared at Emma, her eyes full of disdain, desperately needing an outlet for her emotions. "You're such a shameless woman, cheating even before the divorce! How many men have you seduced with that disfigured face of yours? Have they all slept with you?" said she.

"Shut up!" Ethan snapped.

"Now you're protecting Emma!" Anna's sarcastic tone grew even more intense.

Emma felt a sharp pain in her heart, her eyes slightly warm. However, she knew she couldn't out of control emotionally at this moment. She tried to calm herself, and said firmly, "Anna, you and I both know what you've done. Don't pretend to be innocent in front of me! If you keep causing trouble, I'll never divorce George!"

Anna was stunned for a moment, seemingly shocked by her words, then sneered, "Do you think you can threaten me? I'm the most important person in George's heart! He will divorce you sooner or later."

"Really? Then why haven't you married him in the three years I was in prison?" Emma continued, "With the Russell Family's power, divorcing me would be easy, but George hasn't divorced me, which means he doesn't want to marry you. As long as I refuse to divorce, George's wife will never be you."
