Chapter 87 Teaching Her a Lesson

"I agree to the divorce!" George's cold, decisive words cut through Emma like a knife, tearing her heart apart.

She sat on the cold floor, feeling a chill spread from her limbs to her heart, while a burning sensation radiated outward from her chest.

Heat and cold twisted together in Emma's abdomen, the pain from the tumor nearly suffocating her. Sweat beaded on her forehead, and the overwhelming weakness filled her with despair. Her once vibrant face now looked pale and lifeless because of the illness.

"I agree to the divorce." George's voice came again, just as cold. His eyes were empty, like he was talking about the weather.

Even though Emma had always wanted the divorce, hearing George agree to it still made her heart ache uncontrollably.

"Fine, should we sign the divorce papers now?" Emma's voice was weak but determined.

Keeping a man who didn't love her around was pointless. Since George didn't want to be tied down by Emma, and Emma didn't want to be tortured to death, divorce was the best option. She just couldn't understand why the George who once adored her had turned into someone so different. This left her feeling deeply resentful!

"George, I will divorce you. But before that, I just want to ask you one question. Do you really not care about our promise?" Emma tried hard to find a trace of warmth in his eyes, but all she saw was cold indifference.

"Emma, get it straight. There was never any promise between us! I only ever promised Anna to take care of her for a lifetime!" George's tone was firm, making his final choice without hesitation.

Emma's heart sank instantly, tears streaming down uncontrollably.

"How can you do this..." Her voice choked, tears falling and wetting the back of her hand.

She thought, 'George, how many girls have you made promises to? Turns out I was never the only one, just an option to be discarded at any time.'

"Fine, fine, I'll go."

Anna was right. The one who wasn't loved was the loser. She had always been the complete loser who got in the way of George and Anna's relationship without realizing it. Now she truly understood.

Emma showed a relieved smile, clearly understanding that George was never the one she knew from her childhood. The George she knew and her love had died that summer.

Thinking of this, Emma revealed her first genuine smile in days, like the warm and bright sunshine of spring.

George couldn't calm down, staring at Emma's smile. At that moment, he seemed to see the shy Emma in a white wedding dress at their wedding, with a happy smile on her face and eyes full of hope for the future.

"Emma..." George called softly, a complex emotion surging in his heart. That Emma was pure and beautiful, like a blooming flower, exuding a charming fragrance. However, over time, everything seemed to have changed. Her smile gradually became overshadowed by gloom, becoming increasingly fragile, as if it could wither at any moment.

As George got lost in his memories, the illusion shattered. The once pure Emma now seemed like a madwoman on the ground, full of despair and pain. Her eyes showed helplessness, but he just couldn't get it.

"Why, Emma?" George muttered, confusion etched on his face.

He couldn't wrap his head around why Emma had to go after Anna. She could've had a stable life as his wife, enjoying his love and care. But she chose to fight him.

Did Emma really care that much about his relationship with Anna? He only felt a sense of duty towards Anna. He had promised to take care of her for life, not letting anyone bully her. Just like he married Emma and gave her everything she deserved. Why couldn't Emma and Anna just get along?

"Did I mess up?" George whispered to himself, then closed his eyes and stuck to his decision.

Emma was the one who gave up on this marriage first. Despite her affairs with other men, George had been willing to overlook it all. But Emma was never satisfied. She wanted the status of his wife and the thrill of having other men around.

No way! Her current act was just to dodge the divorce, wasn't it?

"Stop pretending, Emma." George's tone had a hint of disdain. He wheeled himself out of the hospital room, followed by others. Only Scarlett gave Emma a lingering look before leaving.

As their footsteps faded, Emma's body started trembling violently, the tumor's pain becoming unbearable again.

She gripped the edge of the bed tightly, her nails digging into her thigh, the pain bringing a bit of clarity. Her breathing became rapid, her heart feeling like it was being hammered. She endured the endless pain.

She forced herself to press the call button by the bed. Nurses rushed in, panicking at the sight of her agony.

"Hurry, prepare for emergency!" One nurse quickly sounded the alarm, while another checked Emma's condition. Emma's consciousness began to blur, the pain overwhelming her.

"Her condition is critical. Get her to the emergency room!" The nurses acted swiftly, pushing her bed towards the emergency room. Emma's consciousness faded in the pain. In her last moment of awareness, she saw George's distant figure, turning his head with a disdainful smile, as if watching a show.

"She's just pretending to be in pain to avoid the divorce." George's eyes gleamed with a twisted pleasure.

George secretly felt smug, thinking that all her efforts to avoid divorce showed she still loved him, but he believed he needed to teach her a lesson this time to show who was in charge in Lakeside Haven.

George turned back and left with the others, leaving Emma struggling in pain.

Emma was pushed into an unfamiliar space, surrounded by the piercing sounds of machines and busy medical staff. Her heart was filled with fear, the pain making it impossible to think. She could only close her eyes helplessly, letting the tide of fate sweep her away.
