Chapter 262 Deliberate Approach
Emma gently changed George's bandages, feeling a twinge of guilt. Her fingers lightly brushed his wrist as she unwrapped the old bandage and applied a fresh one. The wound didn't hurt, but it itched, spreading a tingling sensation through his body.
George's gaze lingered on Emma's face, as a swirl of complex emotions rose within him.
Just then, the door to the hospital room opened, and Michael walked in. He had come to visit George, but seeing the intimate interaction between Emma and George made his heart sink.
A flash of sadness crossed Michael's eyes. He felt a pang of bitterness, as if an invisible hand was squeezing his heart.
Even though he knew Emma was getting close to George for revenge, he couldn't help but feel a pang of regret every time he saw them together.
If they had stayed in Sunterra and not come back for revenge, would they be living happily now?
Of course, it was all just Michael's fantasy.
Michael was filled with a sense of loss and helplessness. He knew he was out of place in this situation. Watching the closeness between them, he felt a wave of powerlessness, a sudden surge of loneliness.
Before they noticed him, Michael turned and left the room, carrying his sorrow with him.
The door closed softly behind him, and Emma, sensing something, looked up towards the door. She thought she saw a glimpse of a familiar coat, one that looked like Michael's.
If it really was Michael, the scene just now might have hurt him, but Emma didn't know how to make amends.
She could only silently apologize in her heart. 'I'm sorry, Michael. Once my revenge is over, we'll go back to Sunterra and live a peaceful life.'
After finishing with George's bandages, Emma made an excuse and left.
In the hospital corridor, she brushed past a man with a dark, brooding expression.
Emma was looking down at her phone, completely unaware of Asher's approach.
Asher was at the hospital to see Anna, to witness her downfall, but unexpectedly, he saw Emma first.
Asher had seen the video and knew that Anna was the one who killed Molly, but Emma wasn't innocent either. If it weren't for their conflict, Molly wouldn't have been caught in the crossfire.
So, Emma was also responsible for Molly's death. She wouldn't escape either.
But how to arrange for Emma's demise?
Asher decided to create a "hero saves the damsel" scenario to get close to Emma and lower her guard.
At that moment, a thief Asher had hired sneaked up and swiftly snatched Emma's phone. The thief moved so quickly that no one noticed.
Asher immediately shouted, "What are you doing!"
The thief, startled by Asher's voice, turned to flee. Asher quickly gave chase, silently congratulating himself on how smoothly his plan was unfolding. His tall, athletic build allowed him to easily keep up with the thief.
"How dare you steal!" Asher's voice boomed, drawing the attention of several passing medical staff and patients. The thief, in a state of panic, started to walk faster, desperate to get away.
Asher sped up the thief. He knew he had to present himself as a hero. Just as the thief was about to escape the hospital corridor, Asher lunged and tripped him. The thief fell, and the phone slid out of his hand, landing right at Asher's feet.
"You're not getting away!" Asher roared, grabbing the thief by the collar and pinning him down with his strong arms. The thief struggled, but was no match for Asher's strength.
After securing the thief, Asher picked up Emma's phone and discreetly placed it into a black device at his waist. When the device beeped, he took the phone out and placed it back on the ground, as if he had never touched it.
Seeing him finish, the thief resumed his act, struggling against Asher.
"That's my phone!" Emma's voice came from behind, tinged with panic. She hurried over, relieved to see Asher holding the thief down.
Asher turned to Emma, "Here you go."
He picked up the phone and handed it to Emma, his smile tinged with satisfaction.
Emma hesitated, then realized what had happened.
"Thank you," she said, smiling slightly.
"No problem. I just couldn't let a bad guy get away with it," Asher replied warmly, trying to convey his good intentions.
Just then, hospital security arrived and quickly took control of the thief. Asher stood by Emma, looking like her protector. Emma felt a bit uneasy; she didn't like owing favors.
"Thanks to you, I got my phone back," Emma said sincerely. "I'd like to give you $8,000 as a reward."
Asher shook his head, "No need. I didn't help you for money."
"But I really appreciate your help," Emma insisted. Her phone contained important information. Losing it would be a hassle, even if replacing the phone itself was easy.
Asher added, "How about you treat me to dinner to show your appreciation?"
"Sure." Emma nodded.
After that, she chose a restaurant that wasn't luxurious but had a nice ambiance.
They chatted and laughed throughout dinner. At one point, Emma went to the restroom to touch up her makeup. When she returned, she thoughtfully eyed her glass. It didn't seem like it had been tampered with.
Emma took a sip, and Asher's smile grew more genuine. Moments later, Emma felt dizzy, clutching her head in discomfort.
Emma held on her head and said, "What's happening to me?"
"Are you feeling unwell?" Asher pretended to care about Emma.
"Yes," Emma replied weakly, then slumped over the table, unconscious.
A waiter approached, asking, "Is there anything you need?"
Asher replied, "Nothing, my girlfriend just had too much to drink. I'll take her home."
"Get it, sir." The waiter didn't bow and leave but stared intently at Asher.
Asher frowned, about to dismiss the waiter, when he suddenly blacked out, collapsing into the waiter's arms.
The waiter asked, "Sir, have you had too much to drink? Do you need help getting home?"
The next moment, Emma slowly opened her eyes.
"If he's drunk, take him to the desert center. Make sure he never comes back."
"Yes, Ms. Taylor." The waiter replied.
